1.1 Battery Converter Unit to Air-Conditioning Indoor Unit

The Indoor Unit is connected to the Battery Converter Unit via the 4 core (4 x 1mm2) cable provided. The cable is
already connected to the Air-Conditioning Indoor Unit and is terminated in a 4 way Molex connector, which allows the
Indoor Unit to be connected to the Battery Converter Unit simply by plugging the connector into the corresponding
socket on the Battery Converter Unit. See picture below.
Sufficient cable length is provided to allow for flexibility in choosing the mounting position of the Battery Converter
Unit excess cable can be tucked behind the Indoor Unit to provide a neat installation.

1.2 Battery Converter Unit to DC Supply

The optional Battery Converter Unit provides power to the UTS-55W system from the
Telecom Battery should the AC supply to the air-conditioning unit fail. The Battery Converter Unit steps up the
Telecom Battery voltage (24V or 48V) to a level suitable for use by the air-conditioning unit and provides the required
electrical isolation between the AC Mains and the Telecom Battery.
The Battery Converter Unit should be connected to the output of the Telecom rectifier (via a suitable capacity circuit
breaker) by a positive and negative cable (not provided). The Battery Converter Unit typically draws less than 20A
from the DC supply, although in extreme cases (low battery voltage and maximum compressor speed) the current
can reach as high as 45A. It is thus recommended that a 60A breaker be used for protecting the DC circuit feeding
the Battery Converter Unit.

NOTE: The DC input to the Battery Converter Unit is not internally fused;
therefore it is a safety requirement that the DC supply circuit is
protected externally by a suitably rated fuse or circuit breaker.
The cables connecting the output of the Telecom rectifier to the Battery Converter Unit should
be sized such that there is less than approximately 0.5V drop across the cables at maximum
rated current. Total cable length (negative plus positive) is thus limited to approximately 6.5m
(10mm2), 10m (16mm2) and 16m (25mm2) respectively.

While AC Mains supply to the Air-Conditioning is present, the Battery Converter Unit is held in a low-power
standby state, meaning no additional rectifier capacity need be considered for
powering the Battery Converter Units. However, the Telecom Battery and distribution circuit
needs to be suitably sized to cater for the Battery Converter current draw during AC failure
conditions.
The Battery Converter Unit is typically mounted vertically to the right hand side of the indoor
unit using the brackets provided.
