11-12
(Excellent)

All (or nearly all) items in the analysis are discussed

well-developed reasoning.

8-10
(Good)

All the items stipulated as criteria in the analysis are


discussed.
Issue is well stated and argument is well and logically
discussed
Supporting details are well-evaluated.
Conclusion reached is sound or valid backed by welldeveloped reasoning.

6-7
(Average)

A reasonable number of the items stipulated as


criteria in the analysis are discussed (e.g. The student
covered 4 out of the 5 compulsory items and 2 out of
5 of the other items).
Issue is reasonably stated and argument is reasonably
discussed with some logical support.
Supporting details are reasonably evaluated.
Conclusion reached is acceptable with some
reasonably developed reasoning.

A smaller number of the items stipulated as criteria in


the analysis are discussed (e.g. The student covered 3
out of the 5 compulsory items and 1 out of 5 of the
other items).

well as any flaws in reasoning
if any
d. evaluate the supports used in a
text:
i.relevance and/or consistency
ii.objectivity
iii.completeness
iv.validity and credibility
e. make inferences and draw
conclusions
f. identify the stated main ideas
and/or formulate the implied
main ideas
g. identify instances of inductive
and deductive reasoning in a
text
h. determine an authors purpose,
i. determine an authors tone,
j. determine an authors intended
audience

Note:
a, b, c d and e are compulsory
items.
The assignment of 600 to 800
words must include items a, b, c
d and e and at least 3 items
from, f, g, h, i and j.

writing but this does not affect meaning.
The writer shows control of basic grammar and
employs a considerable range of vocabulary.
The writing appears to be cohesive.

Marginal

There are frequent errors in structure and imprecise


use of vocabulary which occasionally affects
meaning in the writing.
The writing shows little control of basic grammar
although there is some use of discourse markers.

The writing is plagued by rampant errors and


inaccurate vocabulary.
This has affected meaning in the writing.
There is also limited use of discourse markers.
