Report

1.

Experimental Data (Notebook)

Each student should have a 100-leaves of Columnar Record book type of notebook (bond-paper size).
Make sure to select a notebook that has a high quality type of paper. Be able to cover the notebook with
distinct cover per group and with plastic. The notebook should have a page number written at the lower
right corner of every page. All activities related to this course will be placed in this notebook. This
notebook must be brought every meeting. The following format should be followed:

The box should have a width of 2 inches

The diagram should be the schematic of the whole experiment and must be computerized.

All data acquired in the experiment must be written in the Data Entries part. No extra paper is
allowed during the experiment. Everything must be written in the notebook. Use pen with permanent
ink. In case of error, do not use liquid eraser, simply cross the error with a single line horizontally
and opposite write the corrected ones. Be able to affix your signature on the corrections made. All
necessary computations must be under the Data Entries Section. A sample computation should be
written for every different type of calculations made including the statistics.

2.

Evaluation
At the end of every experiment each student will evaluate each of the members of the group using the
evaluation form provided.

3.

Description

Abstract

Give the overview of the whole experiment including the objectives of

the experiment as well as its limitations. Maximum of 150 words.

10

Introduction

Give the general principle behind the experiment

15

Experimental
Section

It includes the materials, equipment diagram and its instrumentation

and the procedure used in the experiment.

15

Results and
Discussion

Interpret all the results that need to be interpreted. Cite the

possible principles or theories that will best elucidate the data
procured. If necessary, write the chemical equations involved. If the
experimental data obtained deviated from the theoretical one, be able
to cite the reasons behind and recommend possible solutions.
Remember: Do not restate the procedure.

40

Conclusion

Make a generalization of the whole experiment. Be able to answer if

the objectives of the experiment were satisfied.

10

References

Be able to cite properly all the references used in making the report

Overall
presentation

Adherence to the prescribed format

B. Laboratory Policies

No one is allowed to perform the experiment without laboratory gowns.

Everybody should perform the experiment.

Each student is allowed to make-up for missed experiment once provided there is a valid reason behind
his/her absence.

Students who came after 45 minutes but not later that 75 minutes would be consider late, beyond 75
minutes they will be considered absent and are not entitled for a make-up experiment. Late students will
have a 5 points deduction for every 15 minutes late in their PDS score.

All reports must be original, duplicated reports means a grade divided by the number of duplication.

All final reports must be submitted 15 minutes after the time beyond this, it will be considered late and
subject to 5 points deduction. If you failed to submit the report on the scheduled date you are still given a
week to submit but you have a 20 points deduction.

Anybody caught cheating during exams will get zero for that exam and may be given a grade of 5.00.

Notes:
Only the first page will contain the logo, succeeding pages should have the page number only.
Use Short bond paper substance 24 only and print back to back.
Include page number at the upper right corner. Do not write the page number of the first page however; it is
still included in the numbering.
The Volume number is your group number while the issue number is the experiment number.

D. Design Project

Each group shall submit a capsule proposal for the experimental design they would like to do. Experimental
design is an investigatory project to answer simple problems related to any fields of chemistry. The
proposal should include the use of at least three analytical instruments discussed in this course and should
include the proper way of sampling and handling of samples.

Capsule proposal should be submitted and approved via Moodle not later than the 4th week of the term.

The students will be given time to perform experiments for their experimental design.

The group shall defend orally the results of this design on week 10 and will be graded according to the
following grading Criteria:
