Purpose of this assignment
The brief is designed in a way that the learners will apply the basic knowledge of project management
principles, methodologies, tools and techniques for developing the suggested e-commerce business.
Scenario
You are planning to start an online business. Your online business will enable the customers to purchase
different items of different retailers through your website, in this way they can place an order for a
specific product and will get it at their door step. Your basic functionality will be forming an online link
between supplier and customers. Customer will place an order for a specific product and you will be
responsible to get the product from the supplier and deliver it to respective customer. FYyou will
charge your profit and after deducting that profit will make the payment to your supplier Survey the
market and choose a range of products for your online business, decide on the target market and
identify different ways in which customers expectations can be satisfied.
For this purpose you are required to analyze the different processes of existing e-businesses to
understand the impact of e-Commerce on business. Furthermore, you are also required to plan an ecommerce strategy for your e-business. The plan should also highlight how you will manage the
suggested e- Commerce strategy.
Task 1 : (U29-LO 1: 1.1, 1.2 and M2, D2)
For planning your e-commerce business, you want to clear your understanding of how an e-commerce
business can affect customers and businesses. Select at least 3 online businesses, and create a review
report by providing an analysis of the following:
Internet customers expectations (data integrity, logistics, customer services etc)
Analyze the three selected e-commerce businesses. Identify and critically discuss the expectations of
internet customers. This includes answering two basic questions:
What the customer usually expect from an e-commerce business and
How e-commerce businesses satisfies these expectations.
Applications used in e-commerce business (shopping cart, payment system, delivery system
etc):
Identify which different applications are used by the selected e-commerce business and critically assess
the potential impact of these applications.

You want to develop an e-commerce business which is itself a complete project. You need a proper
rationale to work on this business plan. Assess the expectations of your potential customers, market
situations etc. and plan an e-Commerce strategy for your e-Commerce business. Identify the basic
requirements and specifications for your e-commerce strategy for this you are required to,

Identify the factors that contribute to the process of project selection. Discuss the factors that
make your e-commerce business fit for purpose.
Discuss generally the need to initiate this particular project (advantages of an online business etc), or in
other terms evaluate the feasibility of a project. In addition, within this task learners should critically
analyse the outline specification, initiate a logbook or diary, estimate costs and resource implications,
and identify goals and the limitations of the project.

Prepare a project plan, including the following requirements:
Objectives and Scope of the project.
The systems development methodology adopted for the complete project i.e. Planning,
Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation etc. This can be in form of a work breakdown
structure.
List of deliverables and milestones at end of each phase.
Resources requirements (raw material or equipment, human resource, information, finance, time
etc).
Project schedules and timescales using different techniques (Gantt chart or network diagrams)
Quality management plans, risk management plans and communication management plans etc
Monitoring and Evaluation plan.

On the basis of your understanding of e-commerce businesses plan your e-Commerce strategy.
This includes working on following plans:
1. A general Strategy of your e-commerce business
2. Internet Strategy (Hosting, Web Designing etc)
3. Marketing Strategy (Targeting market segments, promotional strategies, search engine
optimizing strategies etc)
4. Supply Chain Strategy (satisfying customer demand, responsive supply chain, managed in
house or sub-contracted, partnership relationships with suppliers etc)
5. Payment Strategy (Security, payment systems and terms etc)

Implementing a strategy requires properly managing the suggested e-Commerce strategy. To
manage your planned e-commerce solution you are required to:
o Critically assess the risks of linking your business systems to the internet. How the
identified risks can be managed your planned e-commerce strategy.
o Explain the importance of protecting the domain name, company name, trade marks and
other intellectual property of an organization. Plan how you can protect the intellectual
property of your e-commerce business.
o Identify and critically discuss the security measures available to protect your e-commerce
solution.
o Identify and discuss the current e-Commerce developments. Evaluate the impact of
incorporating these developments into your suggested e-Commerce strategy.
To achieve D1 Provide a critically evaluation of different e-commerce developments to identify their pros
and cons and then assess its impact on your suggested e-Commerce strategy.

Implementation Phase of the Project


Task 6 (U4 LO2: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and D2)
Match the available resources efficiently to areas of the project or phases of its life cycle and
undertake the proposed project in accordance with the agreed specification. During project
implementation you are required to organise, analyse and interpret relevant outcomes.

Task 7 (U4 LO3: 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and M2, D1, D2, D3)

Use appropriate project evaluation techniques and evaluate the final outcome of the project
(such as PERT, earned value technique etc) with reference to the proper implementation of
project plans and procedures. Give clear conclusion(s) and recommendations, evidence of critical
analysis against the original project specification and planned procedures.
Compare the outcome with original project specification and interpret and analyse the results.
You are required to analyze the resultant outcome here and comment on its relevancy and
appropriateness according to the project specicifcations.
On the basis of the evaluation make recommendations and justify areas for further consideration
(for final outcome and project management procedures, both).
