COMMUNICATION
I. Introduction
Communications are the process of sharing ideas, information, and messages with other in a
particular time and place. Communication includes writing and talking, as well as nonverbal communication
(such as facial expression, body language, or gestures), visual communication (the use of images or pictures,
such as painting, photography, video, or film), and electronic communication (Telephone calls, electronic
mail, cable television, or satellite broadcasts). Communication is a vital part of personal life and is also
important in business, education, and any other situation where people encounter each other.
Businesses are concerned with communication in several special ways. Some businesses build and
install communication equipment, such as fax (facsimile) machines, video cameras, CD players, printing
presses, personal computers and telephones. Other companies create some of the messages or content that
those technologies carry, such as movies, books and software. These companies are part of the media or
telecommunications industries. Organizational communications is important in very business. People in
organizations need to communicate to coordinate their work and to inform others outside the business about
the products and services (these kinds of communication are called advertising or public relations).
II. Origins
Communication between two people is an outgrowth of methods development over centuries of
expression. Gesture, the development of language, and the necessity to engage in joint action all played a
part.
Communication among animals
Human are not the only creatures that communicate; many other animals exchange signals and signs
that help them find food, migrate, or reproduce.
Type of communication
Early methods
Early societies developed systems for sending simple messages or signals that could be seen or heard
over a short distance, such as drumbeats, fire and smoke signals.
Language
While other animals use a limited range of sounds or signals to communicate, human have developed
complex systems of language that are used to ensure to survival, to express ideas and emotions, to tell stories
and remember the past, and to negotiate with one another. Oral (Spoken) language is a feature of every
human societies or culture. Over 6000 languages are spoken in the world today.

4
Symbols and Alphabets
Most languages are having a written form. The oldest records of written language are about 5000
years ago. However, written communication began much earlier in the form of drawings or marks made to
indicate meaningful information about the natural world.
Paper and printing
Postal services
Telephone, Radio, Television, Computers
III. International communication
In very society, human have developed spoken and written language as a means of sharing message
and meanings. The most common form of daily communication is interpersonal that is, face to face, at the
same time and in the same place. Interpersonal communication occurs with larger group as well, such as
when a speaker gives a talk to a large crowd (Political candidate giving a speech at campaign, or a teacher
teaching to a large class).
IV. Communication at the distance
From the earliest times, people have needs to communicate across distance or over time. Since the
beginnings of writing, communication media have allowed messages to travel over distance and time. A
communication medium is a means for recording and transporting a message or information. The word
medium comes from the Latin word medium, meaning middle or between. Its a channel or path for sending a
message between communicators. A single channel-such as radio, or a book, or the telephone is called a
medium; media is plural, meaning more than on medium.
V. Communication and disabilities
One of the most important uses of communication systems and technologies has been to assist people
with disabilities. In 1838 the Frenchman Louis Braille demonstrated a system of imprinting raised dots on
paper standing for letters of the alphabets, numbers, and punctuations. With this system, blind people could
read by running their fingers across the dots, and could write by impressing the raised dots into paper.
VI. Communication and law
Societies have attempted to regulate communication through customs and laws since ancient times.
Today many societies regard freedom of communication as a basic human right and enacted laws to protect
this right.

Educational field in Cambodia

Q:

Which institution is in charge of education field in Cambodia?

A:

I think the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport is responsible for it.

Q:

A:

Yes, I do. They collect fees because they are badly paid.

Q:

Do the government leaders focus on quality of teaching and learning? Why?

A:

The government leaders have done little work to improve the quality of teaching and
learning because they think Cambodia have just emerged from war, most people have
illiteracy and they dont understand what politeness, impoliteness, morality, humanity and
inhumanity are.

Q:

Oh! Why do we need to develop human resources in our country?

A:

Because Cambodia is a war-torn country and people have been used to living relying on
destiny and one more thing is that most teenagers are absorbed in entertainment or pleasure.

Q:

mushroom, do you feel optimistic as mine?

A:

Yes, I do. As the majority of Cambodians are conscious as they always motivate children to
go to school as they regard school as the center of education, center of preserving culture
and lighted-candle for their childrens future.

Q:

Besides human resource growth, what field is still doldrums?

A:

As I know, Khmer arts have declined as foreign culture and civilization are widely spread
in our country.

Q:

Could you tell more details about this, why you think that westerns culture and
civilization are widely spread in Cambodia?

A:

Since I have grown up, I never see any souvenir shops at all. But nowadays we can see
multi-souvenir shops running in our Capital city. In the past, Cambodians have never had
birthdays but now most rich-families always hold their birthdays and they also sing a song
called Happy Birthday this is not Khmer song. Is it fully understood?

Q:

Yes, if we ignore this, our culture and civilization will get disappeared some day.

Your life will be blossom! Unless you yourself decorate it!

When you become educated, do you look down on people who have lower education
than you?

A:

No, I dont. They might have other abilities or talent.

Q:

Some people say that English is easy, why do some students complaint that English is
very difficult?

A:

Because they are not talented for it and they are tired to doing practice.

Q:

Why do you become a better speaking of English?

A:

Because I began to speak English as soon as I first study English; you dont confuse
that I am more intelligent than you.

Q:

47. Speech is the picture of mind

Q:

Excuse me, Are you fascinated about discussion with me about general knowledge
today?

A:

Yes, I am. That is the topic that I like, too.

Q:

You told me that you want to be a photographer or businessman. For instance, if you
reach your aspiration, do you need a joint-venture?

A:

No, I dont. I want to do a business on my own as much as possible.

Q:

If you are not well-planned, your business will not go smooth, what do you do to
avoid bankruptcy and slumping?

A:

Well, I have to have budgets to begin a business and knowledge of management and
find out what product people are eager to use. Finally, a firm needs to recruit staffs
that are reliable, honest and one more thing is that the company needs to have a plan
to give annual bonus to employee who performs well.

Q:

By the way, why are some foreign companies often bankrupt in Cambodia?

A:

Because come companies are under polices pressures and some clients buy their
products on hire purchase and some consumers are fraudsters and bad payers.

Q:

it seems to me that some investors make cake without flour in our country as they
exploit children labor or another way called children abuse, what does the children
abuse mean?

A:

This word refers to luring words to children, meaning that some persuade children to
sniff-glue and children are addicted to the glue or they are get drunk with the glue,
they make children steal car-spare parts or snatch handbags from passengers.
Sometimes although a set of 10-dollar earring, they abduct or kill a kid.

Q:

They are so cruel and horrible! Thanks for your useful dialogue. May god be with
you!

48. The best strategy to study English

Q:

Excuse me, why does our teacher, Mr. Sophat, always invite us to speak English
when we are in class?

A:

Because he wants us to have experience of using English. Any way, we go for job
interviews, they always give us oral test.

Q:

Did you used to go for interviews?

A:

Yes, I did. I say many people speaking English than I do, so I feel inferior.

Q:

It seems to me that speaking English is the best strategy of learning English, why do
most students refuse to practice?

A:

Because they think that they know a little English word.

Q:

I reckon that everything has a solution, we dont know any words or we can not speak
English, we should come to English class. If everyone acknowledges that they have
enough English knowledge, they dont need to come to class. Do you think so?

A:

Yes, I do. Thanks for your clarification.

Q:

You are welcome! Studying with practicing is helpful to us.

A:

I will follow your instructions.

Q:

I just want to inform you that people have different memory.

A:

I think that I have a lower memory than you. Do you think like that?

Q:

No, I dont think like that. You know, what I told you are not meant that I look down
on you. Its just my own ideas.

A:

I know everything. It jus kidding! Good bye!

Q: Hi! How are things?
A: I am fine thanks. What topic would you like to talk on this occasion?
Q: Today, I would like to talk about what related to Bon Kathen. Ok?
A: Yes. Now I am anxious to answer all your questions. Please, raise your questions!
Q: Primarily, where are you going to get to during Bon Kathen the coming?
A: I havent got any plan yet. Hey! I seem to feel that you are playing a joke with me. Please, dont
speak it around!
Q: Ok! And Im sorry that I prolong your times, especially its just kidding only!
A: Now if you dont want to question me, Ill ask you some questions back.
Q: Wait! Wait.! Let me think! Oh, would you mind telling me about the history of Bon Kathen?
A: you decided to reveal your question. Please, listen to me carefully. By the way, I cant speak it
again if you dont catch up. According to Buddhism scripture, At the Pathom Potikal, when
Buddha has just reached the enlightenment, he allowed Buddhist monks used only Bang Skol
Jeywor which was the robe that those monks could find by themselves from any places, even
from a rubbish pile. One day during the Marchim Pothikal, there were 30 Buddhist monks at
Denbathey came to pay respect to Buddha who was in the Jettpon temple. Unfortunately,
when those monks almost reached the temple, the Jam Worsa day came. No Choice to choose,
those monks had to find a place on the way in order to begin to observe the traditional practice
of Worsa, when the Worsa days were over, they continued their journey. However, that season
still had some drizzles, so they all got wet when they arrived at the temple. At that time, Buddha
asked them about their health, bodies, relationships and the begging food during Jam Worsa
days. Those monks replied that everything was alright, but the journey was very difficult.
Buddha thought that if he set up a Kathen ceremony, these monks would have saffron to change
and it would be better for them. After that thinking, Buddha called the Buddhist monks and
announced that from now on he allowed all the Buddhist monks who finished Jam Worsa put
on saffron that was given by laypeople. This kind of saffron we call Kahappadey Jeywor. The
monks who put on the saffron would achieve 5 Buddhist rewards and people who gave the
saffron would live in Luxury and prosperity.

situation and social order in Kingdom of Cambodia, currently?
Now, the security situation and social order are better than before, but if we compare the
other countries security situations and social order, our country is the worst of all the
countries in the world.
Why did you mention like this and could you light on me in detail?
Because, all the people are living in the threatening, miserable, consequence, sine we chose
the new government in this mandate and there are a lot of assassins, kidnappers, robbers in
the city.
What is you reaction when the murderer murdered our union leader, recently? What is your
impression?
For me, I am interesting it very much, and I think thank that all the Cambodian, especially
factory workers are focusing on this severe matter.
Now municipal police capture two young murderers. Is it true or not?
Yes, its true, but the murderer true or fake, I cant mention.
Did the murderer confess that he shot the victim by himself?
When I caught a new in TV, I heard that he confessed when he was sent to conference, last
