Harold Larwood (1904 1995) was a professional cricketer for Nottinghamshire and En

gland between 1924 and 1938. A right-arm fast bowler, he was considered by many
commentators to be the finest bowler of his generation. He was the main exponent
of the bowling style known as "bodyline", developed under the guidance of Engla
nd's combative captain Douglas Jardine as a response to the domination of Austra
lia's leading batsman, Don Bradman. The tactic was used with considerable succes
s in the 1932 33 Test series, but the Australians' description of the method as "u
nsportsmanlike" soured cricketing relations between the two countries. Larwood r
efused to apologise for his bowling, as he was carrying out his captain's instru
ctions, and never played for England again. In retirement after the Second World
War, he and his family emigrated to Australia, where he was warmly welcomed, in
contrast to his cricketing days. He paid several subsequent visits to England,
and was honoured at his old county ground, Trent Bridge, where a stand was named
after him. In 1993 he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire
(MBE), in delayed recognition of his services to cricket. (Full article...)

and changes from left-to-right to an eagle. The logo is multi-colored and below
it is the phrase "National Film Registry of the Library of Congress".
The National Film Registry (NFR) is the United States National Film Preservation
Board's (NFPB) selection of films for preservation in the Library of Congress.
The NFPB adds to the NFR up to 25 films each year, showcasing the range and dive
rsity of American film heritage to increase awareness for its preservation. A fi
lm is not required to be feature-length, nor is it required to have been theatri
cally released. The NFR contains newsreels, silent films, experimental films, sh
ort films, films out of copyright protection, film serials, home films, document
aries, independent films, television films, and music videos. Currently, the ear
liest listed film is Newark Athlete (1891), and the most recent is Decasia (2002
). The time between a film's debut and its selection varies greatly. The shortes
t span is the minimum 10 years; this distinction is shared by Raging Bull, Do th
e Right Thing, Goodfellas, Toy Story, and Fargo. (Full list...)
