The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Dear friends in Christ,

WELCOME NEW PARISHIONERS

Over the past two months it

has been a great joy to experience the gifts and talents of
our new music director
David Stevens. He has been a
great addition to the staff as
well and has brought a joyful
personality that I am hopeful
will continue to attract many of our parishioners
to want to participate in our music ministry program.
Ive had some special moments of prayer in the
last few weeks that have been greatly assisted by
our new music at mass. I know David is also
excited to be a part of this parish community as
well.
This weekend David Stevens will be formally
introducing himself after the Masses and making
an appeal to be part of the music ministry in various ways. If you are talented in this way or even
if you just want to learn more and grow in this
kind of service please talk to him after Mass.
God bless,

Daily Prayer for Priests

THE SENIOR CORNER

O Jesus,
I pray for your faithful and; fervent priests;
For your unfaithful and tepid priests;
For your priests laboring at home or
Abroad in distant mission fields.
For your tempted priests;
For your lonely and desolate priests;
For your young priests; For your dying priests;
For the souls of your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to you
The priests dearest to me;
The priest who baptized me;
The priests who absolved me from my sins;
The priests at whose Masses
I assisted and who gave me
Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
The priests who taught and instructed me;
All the priests to whom I am indebted
in any other way
(especially...)
O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,
And bless them abundantly
in time and in Eternity,

Dont give out account numbers. In addition to

wanting your Medicare information, scammers
may angle for a bank account number, saying they
need it to process an overdue medical bill. And
dont be fooled if they cite a few digits from your
checks. Just hang up.

Amen

Helping Local Hungry Children

Common Ground Collaborative works through the La Mesa/Spring Valley school district to provide goods and services needed by students and their families, to ensure a positive learning environment. School will once again be out
for the Thanksgiving holiday week very soon. That means for many children who rely on their school for lunch and
breakfast, they may have to go without. Yes, its that dire for more than 50 families who need help feeding their children right here in our Spring Valley neighborhoods. Next weekend on Saturday, November 15th and Sunday 16th,
Santa Sophias Common Ground ministry will invite you to dip into your pocket on the way out of church to help put
food on the table for the Thanksgiving week. Thanks to the generosity of area stores and food producers, who are
providing big discounts to us, we are able to obtain the needed food for much less than you could buy it in the store.
So, your dollars will go a long way. This is a powerful sign to these families that somebody really does care!

Thank you for the generosity you have always shown.

Knights of Columbus Presents 500th Ultrasound Machine

The Knights of Columbus has donated an ultrasound machine to a Baltimore pregnancy center,
making it the 500th such gift by the Knights to a pregnancy center dedicated to helping women
keep and care for their unborn babies. This machine was donated under the Orders Ultrasound
Initiative When we began this program five years ago, we hoped to put a machine in every
state, said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson before presenting the ultrasound machine to the Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns for use at its Dundalk, MD, facility. But this program has been even more successful
because of the great need and the generosity of brother Knights from coast to coast. He added: Not only has this
program saved the lives of countless unborn children, but it has saved many mothers and fathers from a lifetime
of regret. Supreme Knight Anderson made the presentation along with Supreme Chaplain and Archbishop of Baltimore William Lori at an annual mid-meeting of state deputies held in Baltimore. The Knights Ultrasound Initiative
began in January 2009 and initially provided a dozen or so machines that produced images of the unborn. The program has since expanded to all 50 U.S. states, Canada and Jamaica, and employs a range of devices, including the latest three-dimensional technology that allows the mother to see detailed images of her child in real time.

Testimony of the Rosary: healing medicine

My name is Valerie Staples and my family and I are new parishioners at Santa So-

phia. My simple testimony is that I've prayed the Rosary daily since I was in my
late teens. It isn't always easy but it's always worth it. I can say that Our Lord,
through the intercession of Our Lady, has always directed my path and granted me
peace when I faithfully prayed the Rosary. As a home schooling mother of 6, our
home life can be a bit chaotic at times. When I'm starting to stress about a couple of
the kids fighting, or the incomplete school work or the brand new stains I find daily
in our carpeting, praying the Rosary gives me what I need so that I am ready to just
roll with the punches.

I'm grateful to God and Holy Mother Church for giving us the Rosary.
