Free lunch! Amazing, inspiring speakers! What could be better? The USC Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab
invites you to our Lunch & Learn event featuring Kate Courteau, Director of Nonprofits at Y Combinator.
Called Silicon Valleys start-up machine by the New York Times and consistently ranked as one of the
top startup incubator and accelerators, Y Combinator (YC) has funded companies such as Scribd, reddit,
Airbnb, Dropbox, Disqus, and Heroku. To date, they have funded over 700 startups, cultivated a
community of over 1,400 founders, and their companies have a combined valuation of over $30B.
Recently YC opened its tech company incubation program to social entrepreneurs. By doing so, YC is
incentivizing more entrepreneurs who are willing to tackle social challenges with the tools, creative
approach, and dynamism of the tech sector. And YC is doing it at a time when the social sector needs more
funders and collaborators that are willing to take the chances and spend the resources necessary to
catalyze innovation. Bring your friends, enjoy a free lunch on us, and hear about the exciting collaboration
between technology, social innovation, entrepreneurship, and funding.
Kate Courteau has been a part of YC since its beginning in 2005. She is an architect by training and served
as YCs architect over the last 9 years. Kate also has a background in the nonprofit space, locally and in the
developing world. Through her experience at YC, her own architecture practice, and in the nonprofit space,
she is strengthening the presence of social change startups as Director of Nonprofits
