CAREER HISTORY
Planning Engineer (Nchanga Smelter Metallurgical
Accounting & Production Planning) October 2009 to
date.
Currently working as the Planning Engineer since October 2009 in KCM Nchanga Smelter Metallurgical
Accounting & Production Planning Section. My roles and responsibilities presently include:

Handling copper concentrates, that is taking note of receipt of concentrates both


purchased and own concentrates.
Run daily Smelter Metal balance, monthly metallurgical accounting, producing MIS
reports and coordinating & liaising with other departments in terms of metal accounting.
Coordinating Physical verifications of Nchanga Smelter copper stocks and copper
bearing materials every first day of the month and carrying reconciliations on
concentrates, copper bearing materials, copper scrap received and anode copper
dispatched.
Investigate all non conformities in the area of Metallurgical Accounting.
Conducting Metallurgical inventories audit.
Creating process orders for the month for Smelter production, conforming orders for
each days production, goods issue & receipts for production and analysis of data in
order to improve efficiency of operation and cost reduction on a monthly basis. Trained
as a SAP super user.
Inputting of assays, running metal balance & final metal balance confirmation in SAP &
ensure all Smelter process orders are Technically complete at the month-end.
Keeping abreast with Direct-to-Blister Technology.

Plant Metallurgist/Shift-In-Charge (Nkana Smelter


Materials Handling Plant) from June 2007 to August
2008.
As a Plant Metallurgist for Nkana IBUs materials handling plant. My duties included:

Monitoring & making sure the blend ratios for blending of different concentrates is
followed so that the blend does not affect smelting processes downstream.
Productivity measurement, monitor equipment utilization and develop enhancement
strategies.
Identify and implement measures for eliminating handling losses in all inputs.

Ensure revert balances in the system through material in and material out.
Monitor the performance of sectional parameters in the Central Coal Pulverizing Plant
(CCPP).
Monitor demurrage charges of wagons in the plant area. Reconcile demurrage charges
with railway system of Zambia on a monthly basis.
Receive materials such as concentrates, Coal, sand and take receipt of the reverts from
the smelter.
Be aware of the services provided by other departments and liaise with those
departments as directed and to maintain good communication both within and with other
departments personnel to ensure efficient operations.
Supervise subordinate personnel to ensure the effectiveness and safety consciousness
and perform production jobs to gain an understanding of their functions.

Plant Metallurgist (Nkana Smelter Metallurgical


Accounting).
From September 2008 to October 2009, I worked in Nkana Smelter Metallurgical Accounting as a

Metallurgist. My roles and responsibilities included:

Handling copper concentrates, by taking note of receipt of concentrates both


purchased and own concentrates.
Run daily Smelter Metal balance, monthly metallurgical accounting, producing MIS
reports and coordinating other departments in terms of month-end physical verification
preparation.
Coordinating Physical verifications of Nkana Smelter copper stocks and copper bearing
materials every first day of the month and carrying reconciliations on concentrates,
copper scrap received and other copper-bearing material dispatched.
Investigate all non conformities in the area of Metallurgical Accounting.
Ensure that metallurgical and operational data from various units are regularly and
accurately recorded, so that reliable information about performance and materials
stocks are available at required times.
Monitoring stock levels and consumption of concentrates, coal, silica, pyrite & heavy fuel
oil (HFO) at Nkana Smelter to ensure their continued availability and efficient
utilization to optimize plant performance.

Metallurgist Nkana Smelter July 2005 to January


2006
In July 2005, joined KCM Plc as a Metallurgist. My training programme started with the
appreciation of the Conventional Reverberatory furnaces and Oxy-fuel furnace operations. I
also went through the material handling plant, pierce smith (PS) converters, converter teniente
(CT) furnace and flash dryer operations. From January 2006 to May 2007, I worked as the
Acting Plant Metallurgist for materials handling plant.

From January 2004 to April 2005 Chambishi Metals


Plc
Did a research project at analytical services department/Pressure leach plant on a
contract basis. Project: Evaluation of copper/cobalt losses in the leach plant.
Programme included: sampling, preparing the samples for analysis and analysis using AAS
Analyst 300.

From December 2002 to February 2003 (Industrial


Attachment) Konkola Copper Mines Plc, Kitwe.
As a Metallurgical student, my metallurgical graduate training programme included acid plant
operations and smelter operations. Did a project for 2 (two) months evaluation of the cooling
efficiency of the No. 3 cooling tower for No 3 Acid Plant.

From December 2001 to February 2002 (Industrial

My Metallurgical graduate training programme which was a plant familiarization included:
Material handling, roasting, leaching, filtration, solvent extraction plant, cobalt purification,
cobalt / copper electrowinning, and vacuum degassing of cobalt.

During my work engagements, I have experienced first-hand the importance of personal


organization, good planning habits, attentiveness, teamwork, dedication and extensive time
management. These skills are indispensable especially in that I have to interact with people.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Did a design project of a vertical cylindrical continuous decanter in my 4 th year at university


in partial fulfillment of a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering.
Did a group design project of Catalytic Propane Dehydrogenation plant in my final year at
university. All this called for a lot of personal organization, planning, teamwork, selfdiscipline and good time management in order to balance my life and avoid stressing out .

I helped to reduce demurrage charges for rail wagons which brought materials at Nkana Smelter
Handling plant from charges above US $ 50,000 to less than US$ 10,000 per month.

INTEREST AND ACTIVITIES

I enjoy taking walks, reading and being in the company of supportive friends. I also enjoy
watching different sports and documentaries on nature and science. I am also a keen soccer
fan and fond of good music.
