God’s Extravagant

Generosity:
Part 3
2 Corinthians 9:6-15
God’s generosity
moves us to be
generous.
1. Give.
2 Corinthians 9:7

“Each one must give as he

has made up his mind, not
reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver.” (ESV)
2. Give With God’s
Generosity
In Mind.
2 Corinthians 8:9
“For you know the grace of
our Lord Jesus Christ, that
though he was rich, yet for
your sake he became poor, so
that you by his poverty might
become rich.” (ESV)
3. Generosity Is a
Priority of the
Christian Life.
1 Corinthians 16:1-2
1 “Now about the collection for God’s
people: Do what I told the Galatian
churches to do.

2 On the first day of every week,

each one of you should set aside a
sum of money in keeping with his
income, saving it up, so that when I
come no collections will have to be
made.” (ESV)
4. Generosity Is An
Act of Worship for
Christ
2 Corinthians 9:12-13
12 For the ministry of this service is
not only supplying the needs of the
saints, but is also overflowing in many
thanksgivings to God.
13 By their approval of this service,
they will glorify God because of your
submission flowing from your
confession of the gospel of Christ, and
the generosity of your contribution. . .
(ESV)
5. Give Willingly.
2 Corinthians 9:5, 7
“5. . .It will be ready as a generous
gift, not as an exaction. . .
7 Each one must give as he has
made up his mind, not
reluctantly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.” (ESV)
What About Tithing?

OT Tithe (a tenth)

NT Grace Giving
Why Stop at 10%?

Gazing at the gift of the cross

should result in readiness to
share far more than a tenth
of what we have.
6. Be Generous With
What You Have.
2 Corinthians 8:11-12

11 “Give according to your

means. 12 For if the gift is there,
the gift is acceptable according
to what one has, not according
to what he does not have.” (ESV)
7. Give gladly.
2 Corinthians 9:7

“Each one must give as he

has made up his mind, not
reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver.” (ESV)
8. Giving Produces A
Bountiful Harvest of
Righteousness.
2 Corinthians 9:6, 11-12
“6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly
will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows
generously will also reap generously.
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and
bread for food will also supply and increase
your store of seed and will enlarge the
harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will
be made rich in every way so that you can be
generous on every occasion, and through us
your generosity will result in thanksgiving
to God. (ESV)
“Thanks be to God
for His indescribable
gift!”
