Purity in Body and Spirit

Purity Defined: (1) unmixed with any other matter; (2) free from what vitiates, weakens, or pollutes;

(3) containing nothing that does not properly belong.

Chastity Defined: the quality or state of being chaste: as (a): abstention from unlawful sexual
intercourse; (b): abstention from all sexual intercourse; (c): purity in conduct and intention.

“You may ask what sexual purity – is for the unmarried, it is abstaining from sexual intercourse until
marriage, abstaining from any other sexual acts, such as petting, French kissing, oral sex, etc.,
maintaining purity in thought and deed.”

For the married, sexual purity is faithful commitment to your spouse in body and mind, abstaining from
sexual acts and thoughts with someone outside your marriage.

We live in a culture that sexual looseness of all kinds is promoted. Most people treat sexual immorality
lightly. As young teens, you will feel the pressure to conform and believe it’s the cool thing to do. And
many of you feel that if you don’t conform, your might be considered old fashioned and this will cause
you to be unacceptable. Let me remind you teens, you are in a war, Satan is determined to infiltrate you
with his lies and cause you to buy into the lies that it is okay to live a sexually immoral life. Satan comes
to steal, kill and destroy. He’s out to steal your purity in Christ and to destroy your walk with the Lord.

Wake up teens!! Come out of the sleep, now is not the time to be passive or complacent about living a
life of purity. Jesus has come to give you life and to give life more abundantly. Don’t believe the lie that
if you surrender your life to Jesus you will lose your freedom to do what you want. To do what you
want, actually has the opposite effect, believers and non-believers that indulge in sexual immorality and
other sins allows Satan to bring bondage into their life. So, instead of experiencing freedom, you
experience bondage. The bondage of sin causes one to be a slave to sin. It stunts the believer in their
spiritual growth.

What do you believe purity represents?

1. Wearing long dresses and pinning your hair up in a bun?

2. Never dating anyone?
3. Light kissing and petting only?
4. Total commitment to Christ in thought and behavior?

It is very important in the eyes of God! So important that God sent His Son in a physical body, to
condemn sin in the flesh and to empower us to live victorious lives, while yet in our physical body.

Sexual purity means not only being pure physically with your body, but also with your mind and spirit.
We are called by God, to give our bodies to God as a living sacrifice, to be holy and acceptable to God.

Reference: Romans 12:1, 2 (Amplified Bible)

(1) I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of (all) the mercies of God, to
make a decisive dedication of our bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a
living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your
reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.
(2) Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external,
superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by
its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good
and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and
perfect [in His sight for you].

Although in this culture, sexual looseness is the in thing, we as believers are called to be set apart for
God.

I Corinthians 6:19, 20

(19) Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives
within you, Whom you have received (as a Gift) from God? You are not your own.

(20) You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then,
honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

Essential Keys in Living a Life of Sexual Purity

(1) Commit your life to Jesus Christ. While you are yet young, it is so crucial and important that
you commit your life to Jesus. Without Jesus in your life you cannot live a life of sexual purity.

Will you say a prayer with me?

Father God, I acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to die for my sins.
And He rose again on the third day. Forgive me of my sins, wash me, cleanse me in my body and
spirit and mind. Fill me with your Holy Spirit; make me whole and empower me with your Holy
Spirit so that I can live holy and set apart for you. I give thanks to you Father, in Jesus name.
Amen.

Pursue a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus with a passion. The first and greatest
commandment is to love the Lord God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being
and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:5

Ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and
understanding. The scripture in Proverbs 3:7 admonishes us not to be wise in our own eyes, but
we are to fear the Lord and depart from evil.

Live as one set apart for God. As a child of God, we must understand we are not our own, our
body belongs to God. …..the body is not intended for sexual immorality, but [is intended] for
the Lord, and the Lord [is intended] for the body [to save, sanctify, and raise it again].
I Corinthians 6:13

Run from sexual immorality. As a teen, young adult, mature adult, avoid situations, places and
circumstances that is an open invitation to temptation. Examples of such situations, inviting
someone over without adult supervision, dating alone, parking in secluded areas, seductive
dressing, abstaining from touching and petting, kissing, allowing yourself to be in compromising
situations, bedrooms, a secluded room.

(2) WHY? Shun immorality and all sexual looseness [flee from impurity in thought, word, or
deed]. Any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits
sexual immorality sins against his own body. I Corinthians 6:18

Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Teens, living a life of purity cannot be accomplished with your
own strength. We can make all kinds of commitments, but until we ask God and receive the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, own strength will not empower us. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in
our temple. Empowering us to live a victorious life. The Scripture says, you shall have power

after the Holy Ghost is come upon you. It takes the power of the Holy Spirit to maintain a life of
purity.

(3) Renew your mind teens! As you feed you physical body natural food to sustain it, your spirit
man must be fed also with the Word of God. God is able to sustain and keep you in His ways.
Get a Bible, a teen study bible, read it, study it, meditate on it, think on what the scripture says.
Read and meditate on the Word of God, day and night so that you can observe all that is written
in it and obey it.

(4) Take your thoughts captive. The battle begins in the mind; Satan will inject thoughts to get you
off track from God’s will. Don’t allow Satan to use your mind as a dumping ground for his trash.
Eject every evil thought, and replace it with the Word of God for your situation. Think on those
things that are pure, lovely, good report, praise-worthy and true. Cast down those imaginations
that Satan brings to you and everything that is contrary to the Word of God.

(5) Guard your eyes and heart. Having nothing to do with pornography (magazines portraying
nudity and sexual acts,). Ladies, protect your ears, those sweet nothings that the boys are
whispering to you can lead you to trouble. Boys, protect your eyes, when you see a woman or
girl dressed inappropriately and alluring, bounce your eyes to another place and say Holy Ghost
help me. Teens need to be on guard when using the internet, avoid those sexually oriented
sites.

Those of you that have already lost your virginity, God is ready to forgive you of your sins. The scripture
teaches that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive of our sins. So be obedient, confess
your sins and choose to turn from every wicked way. God is available to heal every hurt, pain and
devastation of any individual. Take it to God, He is your healer. He heals the broken heart and binds up
their wounds. Young people, pursue God for healing, renewal of your mind and deliverance.
