Family Campouts
Named in honor of the late How-
ard Ocobock, WFSE/AFSCME’s
vice president from 2004 to 2009.
These campouts, held at state parks,
serve to foster solidarity in fun and
informal settings.

Neville B. Crippen Grant-in-Aid
Award. A quarterly award estab-
lished to help members advance
their education or improve skills.
Norm Schut Scholarship Awards
These scholarships allow eligible
members or members of their
families to pursue studies at an ac-
credited vocational school, college
or university. Three $1,000 schol-
arships awarded each year; one is
earmarked for a WFSE/AFSCME
member.

A $1,500 scholarship awarded
to an eligible member or family
member to pursue studies at an ac-
credited vocational school, college
or university.

Scholarships
Union Plus Scholarship
The Union Plus Scholarship Pro-
gram, sponsored by the Union Plus
Education Foundation, helps union
members and their families defray
the cost of higher education.
• Current and retired members,
their spouses and their depen-
dent children (including foster
children, step children and
any other child for whom the
individual member provides
greater than 50 percent of his
or her support) can apply for a
Union Plus Scholarship.
• Graduate students are now
eligible.
• The amount of the award rang-
es between $500 and $4,000.
This is a one-time cash award
sent to individual winners for
undergraduate study beginning
in the fall of the same year.
• Applicants must submit tran-
scripts, SAT or ACT scores, a
personal reference, a 500-word
essay, membership verification
and other information.
DEADLINE: Applications must be
postmarked no later than Jan. 31.

AFSCME Family
Scholarship
The AFSCME Family Scholarship
is an ongoing program of scholar-
ships available to children and fi-
nancially dependent grandchildren
of AFSCME members.
Once awarded, the scholarships
will be renewed each year for a
maximum of four years, provided
the student remains enrolled in a
full-time course of study. Award
amount is $2000 per year.
To be eligible, the student must:
• Be a graduating high school se-
nior in 2010 who is a daughter
or son of an AFSCME member
(or whose legal guardian or fi-
nancially responsible grandpar-
ent is an AFSCME member);
• Be enrolled in a full-time de-
gree program at an accredited
four-year institution (or at a
two-year institution that will
transfer credits to a four-year
institution); and
• Have taken the SAT or the
ACT.
The scholarship may be used for
any field of study.
• DEADLINE: Dec. 31.
