Events in Jamaica 2014

Jamaica always offers wonderful historic & cultural events, grand food festivals, reggae/dancehall
extravaganzas, and a whole heap of other great events! Below you will find the Jamaican events that take place
annually (at least they usually happen every year). We update events in Jamaica every few days, so check
back often. The TBAs (To Be Announced) will be updated when a date becomes final.
WANT YOUR EVENT LISTED? We regularly search the Web for events in Jamaica, but we can never find
them all. If you have an event that is not listed here, please contact us, provide the details & we'll be happy to
list it. If our info is wrong, or you want to add some way for people to contact you for event details (primarily
vendors who want to participate), let us know that too. Visitors AND Jamaicans alike visit this page often to find
interesting upcoming events!
Keep in mind that things can happen, particularly due to this unsettled global economy and, of course, bad
weather. So be sure to confirm the details at the event's official website before you go! We are not responsible
for changes or cancellations of Jamaican events in 2014 or 2015!!

Swift River
Bussu Festival

Chelsea, Swift
River,
Portland

Annual fun filled day highlighting the Bussu (a type of mollusk

- like oyster & clam - indigenous to Portland) for which the
festival is named. The 'bussu' or 'janga' is a local term for
crayfish. A small river snail, Bussu is to villagers what
escargot is to the French. Its soft meat, and the soup made
from it, is believed to be an aphrodisiac. The day's activities
include cultural performances such as Kumina drumming,
Dinki-mini, Mento and story-telling.
