granted a scholarship for the Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and became a surgeon resident under
Professor John Longacre. In the U.S., he attended the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and the Plastic Surgery
Department of Dr. John Marquis Converse in New York. Returning to Rio de Janeiro, Dr. Pitanguy created the
19th Infirmary at the Santa Casa General Hospital, the first hand Service of South America (which would
become the 38th Infirmary of Plastic Surgery). Dr. Pitanguy was nominated Head of the Plastic Surgery Unit
of the Santa Casa General Hospital. Determined to share his knowledge with young surgeons, he founded
a Post Graduate Course in Plastic Surgery at the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro, later joined by the
Carlos Chagas Medical Institute. The course has graduated over 500 surgeons from 42 different countries.
Dr.Pitanguy opened his private clinic aiming at linking it with the 38th Infirmary, both part of the Ivo
Pitanguy Institute, in order to allow the students to learn and practice the specialty as well as to consult its
scientific basis at its library. He is the author of over 800 peer-reviewed papers and more than 10 books.

MEETING

POLICIES

A A CS: Creating Path way s to L earning

AACS believes that it is important to incorporate several different
learning methods to complete the educational process. Certainly,
didactic lectures with questions and answers, such as those found
during general sessions, are important. The sharing of experiences
from colleagues is invaluable, but this is not sufficient for a total
learning experience. Concentrated learning sessions provided in our
instruction courses are another very important facet of the process,
allowing individuals quality time with one or more experts.

Accreditation Statement
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide
continuing medical education for physicians. The American Academy
of Cosmetic Surgery designates these continuing medical education
opportunities to meet the criteria for hour-for-hour credit in Category 1 of the
Physicians Recognition Award of the American Medical Association (See the
CME statement at the beginning of each program for the maximum number
of hours available).

No surgical learning process, however, is complete without a

workshopsetting, incorporatingfocusedlectureswithdemonstrations,
and if possible either simulated or actual hands-on experience.

D isclosure P rocedure
It is required by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and its affiliate
organizations, in accordance with ACCME regulations, that all presenters
disclose any financial interest or other relationship (grant, research support,
consultant, etc.) by any of the authors with any manufacturer or commercial
products that may be discussed in the presentation.

Whether it is an established technique or one that is still unfolding,

the learning process must be thorough and multifaceted. The
Academy urges each surgeon to be responsible for seeking out a
complete pathway to training, prior to incorporating any technique
into his or her practice.
Patient safety and satisfaction can only be achieved through a
commitment to comprehensive physician education and learning.

P h otograph y /Audio /V isual Taping R estrictions

There is strictly no photography, audio or visual taping allowed in
session rooms or the exhibit hall, without express prior written
permission of the Academy and the speaker. Anyone found photographing
or taping without authorization will be required to immediately surrender the
film or tape, with no reimbursement or further recourse.

Claiming CME C redit

When you pick up your badge, you will be given a packet containing your CME tracking
information. At this years meeting, you will need to submit your CME hours after each session
at the AACS Cyber Caf. You will also be given the opportunity to submit your CME hours up to
90 days post show of the meeting. You should track your actual hours of attendance for each day
of the meeting. Appropriate credit for attendance should be ascertained and reported by each
individual physician to the particular state or medical society to which he or she belongs.
Verification of Attendance
At the completion of each session, you will be asked to complete the session and overall
evaluations at the AACS Cyber Caf. You will also be given the opportunity to submit your
evaluations up to 90 days post show of the meeting. Upon receipt of your completed session
evaluation form at the conclusion of the meeting, the Academy will send you a certificate of
registration for the meeting and the maximum hours of credit available. This too, should be kept
in your personal records. You are responsible for tracking all CME credits earned.
As an educational organization, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery does not specifically
approve, promote or accept the opinions, ideas, procedures, medications or devices presented in
any paper, discussion, forum or panel, or any formal or informal meeting. All speakers, topics
and schedules are subject to change without prior notification, and will not be considered reason
for refund requests. For further information you may request a copy of the formal Academy
Disclaimer of Liability policy from the AACS headquarters office.

It is always the Academys pleasure to welcome the spouses, guests and families
of meeting registrants. However, each guest is required to purchase a special
badge in order to participate in any of the scheduled events. The cost of
the badge is solely to defray the meal and beverage expense. Admission to
sponsored events will be strongly enforced.
Please also note that spouses and guests are not admitted to the educational
program meetings, as seating is limited and reserved for the paid meeting
registrants. In order to ensure fairness for those paying the appropriate registration
fees, spouses and companions wishing to attend any sessions must register as a
surgical assistant/ancillary provider, provided they are not a currently practicing
physician. Practicing physicians must register as nonmember guest physicians. A
spouse/companion badge will not be sufficient for entry into the session rooms. The
Academy thanks everyone for their cooperation in thismatter.
