percentage point from the September 2014 rate of 6.1 percent, and down 0.7 percentage point from 6.7
percentayearago.The statesOctoberratewas thelowestsince June2008whenitwasalso6.0percent.
Therewere578,000joblessFloridiansoutofalaborforceof9,660,000.TheU.S.unemploymentratewas5.8
percentinOctober.Floridasunemploymentratehasbeenlessthanorequaltothenationalratefor14ofthe
last18months.
Floridasseasonallyadjustedtotalnonagriculturalemploymentwas7,857,300inOctober2014,anincreaseof
34,400jobs(+0.4percent)overthemonth.ComparedtoOctoberayearago,thenumberofjobsinthestate
wasupby206,900,anincreaseof2.7percent.Nationally,thenumberofjobswasup1.9percentoverthe
year.FloridasannualjobgrowthratehasexceededthenationsratesinceApril2012.

FloridasNonagriculturalEmploymentbyIndustry(SeasonallyAdjusted)

ThenumberofjobsinFloridawas7,857,300inOctober2014,up206,900jobscomparedtoayearago.October
2014wasthe51stconsecutivemonthwithpositiveannualjobgrowthafterthestatelostjobsforoverthreeyears.
Theindustrygainingthemostjobswastrade,transportation,andutilities(+50,500jobs,+3.2percent).

Otherindustriesgainingjobsincludedprofessionalandbusinessservices(+41,800jobs,+3.7percent);construction
(+38,900 jobs, +10.2 percent); leisure and hospitality (+32,700 jobs, +3.1 percent); private education and health
services (+25,400 jobs, +2.2 percent); other services (+6,800 jobs, +2.2 percent); financial activities (+5,600 jobs,
+1.1percent);manufacturing(+5,300jobs,+1.6percent);andgovernment(+800jobs,+0.1percent).

These industry job gains were partially due to increases in food and beverage stores; employment services;
specialty trade contractors; food services and drinking places; ambulatory health care services; personal and
laundry services; insurance carriers and related activities; fabricated metal product manufacturing; and state
government.

Information (1,200 jobs, 0.9 percent) was the only industry to lose jobs over the year. This loss was due to
internetserviceprovidersanddataprocessing.

LocalAreaUnemploymentStatistics(NotSeasonallyAdjusted)

In October 2014, Monroe County had the states lowest unemployment rate (3.6 percent), followed by Walton
County (3.9 percent), Okaloosa County (4.5 percent), Alachua County (4.6 percent), and St. Johns County (4.7
percent).Manyofthecountieswiththelowestunemploymentrateswerethosewithrelativelyhighproportionsof
governmentemployment.

HendryCountyhadthehighestunemploymentrate(10.5percent)inFloridainOctober2014,followedbyFlagler
County (8.2 percent); Madison County (7.8 percent); and Hardee, Hernando, and Putnam counties (7.7 percent
each).TherewasonlyonecountywithadoubledigitunemploymentrateforOctoberandoneforSeptember.

AreaNonagriculturalEmployment(NotSeasonallyAdjusted)

Ofthe22metroareasinthestate,19hadovertheyearjobgainsinOctober2014.Theareaswiththelargestgains
were MiamiMiami BeachKendall (+37,800 jobs, +3.5 percent), OrlandoKissimmeeSanford (+37,600 jobs, +3.5
percent),andFt.LauderdalePompanoBeachDeerfieldBeach(+24,000jobs,+3.2percent).

The two metro areas that lost jobs over the year were Ocala (1,000 jobs, 1.1 percent) and Panama CityLynn
HavenPanamaCityBeach(700jobs,1.0percent).TheSebastianVeroBeachmetroareawasunchangedoverthe
year.
