Discussion of the role of the Association

The monthly meeting of the Association Directors will take place at the Jericho Garrison
Anderson Room next Monday November 17th at 7:30pm. The main item for discussion will be
the future role and direction of the Association. Interested members are encouraged to attend.
As a further note, I will be ending my term as President in June 2015 so we will be looking for
someone to step into this role.

Remembrance Day was well attended
18 Association members paraded yesterday in cold and breezy conditions. They were warmed
by the wonderful reception of the large crowd. The Battalion is featured on the front page of
todays Sun.
The bus transport this year was donated by Gunter Schlieper of Classic Livery & Coach. Thank
you Gunter!

Association Bursaries have been announced
Three members of the Battalion will be presented with their cheques on parade in the next
weeks.
Elizabeth Dobrzanski $1,000 John Conway Bursary
Richard Togman
$ 500 Association Bursary
Kip Warner
$ 500 Association Bursary
Congratulations to all!

Ortona Dinner to be held Saturday December 13th
It will be held in the Jericho Sprung Shelter so if you wish to attend, dress warmly. Reception in
the Mess at 1700 hrs with dinner at 1800 hrs. We invite all Association members to attend. The
cost will be $25. Please RSVP to ortonadinner2014@gmail.com
This year we will have a special presentation of the medals of a Seaforth WW1 war hero, CSM
George Soles DCM (2 bars). CSM Soles was one of the most decorated non commissioned
soldiers in the British Empire.

Operation Husky the Movie is looking for funding.
Max Fraser is making a full length documentary of Operation Husky 2013. He is raising $25,000
on a crowd funding website
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/operationhuskythemovie
The movie will raise the level of awareness of Operation Husky 1943, the invasion of Sicily.
The Seaforths played a prominent part in that campaign and it would be wonderful to have the
documentary available to show by next Remembrance Day.
Please support it if you can.

Mark Zuehlke is launching his latest WW2 book

Association members are invited to attend a free presentation by Mark on Forgotten Victory,
First Canadian Army and the Cruel Winter of 194445 on Tuesday December 16th at 7pm in the
Alice MacKay room of the Vancouver Central Library, 350 W. Georgia St.
Some of us heard Marks presentation of the Battle of Ortona at last years Ortona Dinner.
Mark recently won the 2014 Pierre Burton Award for his Canadian Battle Series.
