This dps, shows that the writer

wants to intrigue the target

audience by offering two
essential tracks. The fact that the
writer thinks the reader will value
magazines opinion shows the
target audience may be a bit
unsophisticated and easily
swayed.
The font and colour is varied in
some aspects, and the simplistic
nature of the font aids the reader
nicely through it.

Basic layout. Basic layout is the

magazines layout in its basic form. I
can see a grid which makes the dps
look quite organised.

The colours are colours that producers use to

give desired effect to audience. The colour is
generally black to show simplicity also to
show that the content is more important
than the colours, showing the target
audience is more sophisticated than I first
thought.

The use of the masthead at the

top shows again, professionalism.
Font is the colour, size
and type of words. The
fonts used are ones that
are quite easy to read
and are very clear
visually, this shows again
that the writer is trying to
use a colloquial theme to
suit his target audience.

Branding is the use of the brand

of the magazine on the DPS. This
is shown by the masthead on the
top of the page.

The image and text are integrated.

This means they are together in
terms of merging. A mini article is
used next to the images.

The basic denotation. The

basic denotation is the
bare bones of the DPS.
This magazine has many
mini articles with images
next to it.

Use of space. The use

of space is whether the
magazine seems
generally filled or not. I
believe it does.

Page numbers. Page numbers

are numbers that represent a
certain page. Now on the DPS,
the page number is on the
bottom right, and people can
see it and navigate through the
magazine well.

The use of images are images

that are places in order to give
desired effect on audience. In
this case there many different
artists on each page, giving an
introduction to them this is an
example of synergy, as it benefits
the magazine and the new
artists.

The drop cap. The drop cap is large letter at the

start of the article. This is a typical basic code and
convention of a DPS, and the magazine has not
met the conventions find this very interesting
because I feel that NME is all about rebelling, and
going against the norm, and that is shown with
things like this,.
1.

Genre. Genre is the type of general

content the magazine is aimed with,
in this case punk rock. They do this
well by the use colour and creative
layout.

Column width and

positioning. The columns
are all of a similar size, to
show the professionalism
and organised nature of
the DPS.

Mode of address. The mode of

address is what makes the
magazine stand out to the
audience. The theme is quite
chatty throughout and so the
audience is addressed informally.

In terms of connotation.
Connotation is the hidden
meaning of some of the things
on the DPS. I feel the use of
circles around the artists is like
a thought bubble and this helps
them connect further with the
audience.

In terms of target audience. Target

audience is a particular group at which
a product such as a film or magazine is
aimed at. The target audience is rock
fans, of an age of 16+. This is because
the use of blood and gore is not suitable
for under 16s. I would say an ethnicity
of generally white people of a lower to
middle social class and a party lifestyle.
