From January 27th to February 7th, 2010, WHITE WAVE will be hosting and producing the Cool New York 2010
DANCE Festival (CNYDF), celebrating the 7th consecutive year of the company’s annual winter dance showcase.
About 60 contemporary companies and choreographers will be presented over 19 performances during this two-
week long extravaganza of cutting-edge dancemaking. All performances will take place at WHITE WAVE John
Ryan Theater, located at 25 Jay Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn. Kicking off the celebration is WHITE WAVE’s Opening
Night Benefit; all other festival performances will be presented to the public FREE OF CHARGE.

The Cool New York DANCE Festival originated in 2004 as a component of Cool New York, the City’s winter
celebration of “arts and parks” events. Our Festival features both young luminaries and well-known ensembles,
bringing a wide spectrum of talents from all across the United States and beyond into the New York City spotlight.
WHITE WAVE’s regular programs include a variety of educational programs for children, whom we incorporate into
the CNYDF’s family-friendly programming: two free “A Day for the Family” matinees. Our family audiences enjoy
the art of movement together, instilling the love of dance in both young and old.

Groups selected to appear at the CNYDF includes some of the most

WHITE WAVE: MISSION & RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Each year, WHITE WAVE presents three annual dance festivals in conjunction with larger arts and civic programs,
and 2009 has been a banner year for our productions! We create unmatched performance opportunities for young
choreographers and eminent artists alike, and provide the New York community with continued access to diverse
artistic voices throughout the year. Roslyn Sulcas of the New York Times summed up the importance of our
contemporary dance showcases in her review of our 2008 WAVE RISING SERIES’ stating that WHITE WAVE
presents a “showcase (of) a broad variety of work. Tickets are cheap and dancing plentiful; it’s a good mix.”

WHITE WAVE’s Festivals were created in response to the needs of emerging artists, presenting and producing
original and cutting-edge dance works at no or a very low cost to participating dance-makers. WHITE WAVE
relieves choreographers from the high costs of self-production, promotion, and space rental in the competitive NYC
market. The diverse audiences attending these artists’ performances include new legions of fans for contemporary
dance by taking advantage of our free admission policy.

WHITE WAVE’s 2009/10 Season has already had a brilliant start. Our recently completed fourth annual WAVE
RISING SERIES (October 21st – November 8th), presented 19 dance companies with 88 performers in 22 works,
over 21 performances. Two outstanding Korean Dance Companies – Milmul Modern Dance Company and WonKim

& Coll. Dance Project – made their New York debuts thanks to the generous support of the Asian Cultural Council,
the Korean Cultural Service NY and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Republic of Korea.

Our annual DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, showcasing a “who’s who” in contemporary and avant-garde modern
dance, has become a distinguished New York-based meeting ground for dancemakers and dance lovers alike. The
grand scale of the festival, the diverse artist participation, and its vast interdisciplinary variety distinguishes the
Festival and WHITE WAVE as pioneers within New York City’s arts community.

2009’s DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL (September 27-30th) opened with an enthusiastic full house at our Gala evening
of performance and celebration, which honored two of WHITE WAVE’s most distinguished supporters: Ambassador
Donald P. Gregg, the former U.S. Ambassador to Korea and Japan, and Mr. John Ryan, Chairman and CEO of The
John Ryan Company. At our award ceremony, each received a stunning crystal and bronze trophy in thanks for
their longtime support of Young Soon Kim’s artistic vision.

One special highlight of WHITE WAVE’s wide press coverage was the feature on our Cool New York 2009 DANCE
Festival broadcast on Channel 13 Sunday Arts, stating that during this two week extravaganza for contemporary
dance, “Brooklyn is the place to be.” This fall, Channel 13 Sunday Arts also paid homage to WHITE WAVE’s
WAVE RISING SERIES, highlighting it as a “renowned” production featuring an “eclectic range of dance
companies.” In addition, Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times wrote “…The ambitious festival, directed by
Young Soon Kim and presented at the gleaming John Ryan Theater at the WHITE WAVE Performance and
Rehearsal Space in Brooklyn, stood out for the generally high level of the choreography and performing.” Earlier
this year, Backstage’s Lisa Jo Sagolla noted that “The New York City downtown dance world owes a great debt
to Young Soon Kim… [Her] events are the best dance deals in town.”

"We are proud to host an event that will bring New Yorkers of all ages together this winter to enjoy the countless cultural
and parks activities that New York has to offer. Cool New York features something for everyone, including dance
performances, art exhibits, and winter sports. It is the perfect opportunity to get out this winter season, explore new
neighborhoods, and appreciate the magic of the City."- - Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg
