Informal / Formal style

1. Although there are no universally accepted rules for writing e-mails, there are some useful. Here are some:







Create a subject line with impact it can make your e-mail more likely to be read.
Keep your paragraphs short, use headings, bullets and numbering these will guide the reader and make
the message easier to read.
Dont always trust your spell check (it cant tell the difference between e.g. your and youre), proofread your
message before sending it it is much more professional if there are no silly errors in it.
Put your signature on the message it saves for the reader scrolling down to see if there is more text :)

2. It is very important to know who you are writing to, to be able to decide whether you should use informal or
formal/neutral language.

There is yet another way to be polite in English. You should change your original short, indirect sentences into longer, more
polite ones.
