Speech for the Hooding Ceremony

Graduate School
Eastern Visayas State University
March 28, 2011

The University President, Dr. Catalino B. Beltran; the Vice-President

for Academic Affairs and the concurrent Dean of the Graduate School, Dr.
Dominador O. Aguirre, Jr.; highly esteemed faculty of the Graduate School
of the Eastern Visayas State University, parents, spouses and loved ones,
guests and visitors, good afternoon.
In behalf of the candidates for the degree Doctor of Philosophy, I
express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the University for
providing us the opportunity to attain our goals and realize our aspirations
in life. After years of toil and hard work, and studies under the tutelage of
the charismatic and highly intellectual faculty of this university, we have
finally reached the apex of success of our endeavors.
The degree which the University will confer on us will provide us
certain rights and privileges. Nevertheless, it entails greater responsibility
and expectations as we assume the tasks that may be assigned to us in
our respective agencies and organizations.
The expectations, though, are not that simple, for from this day
onward, we shall bear the obligation to uphold the name of this institution,
the Eastern Visayas State University. The quality of our management, the
soundness of our decisions, the objectivity and the morality of our actions
are but the reflections of the kind of training that we received from this
university. It is therefore an imperative in our part to do our best in
everything that we do and show that indeed the Eastern Visayas State
University is highly capable of training and producing quality graduates
who do not only excel in this part of the region but can also be at par with
the national and even with the global arena.
The greatest tribute then that we can offer to this university, our alma
mater, is for us to serve this country and contribute to its development
through our selfless effort to make this country a better place to live in.
After we have been conferred with the degree, we should not leave the
country to work abroad; this has been a constant reminder of Dr. Reyes to
us. Rather, we should stay and serve our country men. Let not the title that
will be attached to our name be a hindrance for us in reaching out others
but rather, let it be an instrument that will enable us to make this country
achieve an authentic social change and development.
To the University Administration, the Faculty and the Support Staff;
Eastern Visayas State University, thank you very, very much.
