Question 1 (10 marks) Jerrys Music CD Shop


Jerry is a fan for heavy mental and classical music. At the same time, he owns a small CD Shop
near City Hall MRT station which also does rental. He wants to know how many CDs to order
to maximize his profit. A new CD sells for $10.00 and costs $5.00 to purchase/order. The CD can
also be rented out for $1.50 per month. Rentals are always met first - i.e. demand for rental is
always met. Any CD not sold can be returned for $5.00. CDs rented out are considered used and
cannot be returned.
Demand Data: Demand for monthly sales is 150.
Order Data:
Monthly order is 250.
Demand for monthly rental of CDs is distributed with the following probabilities:

Problem:

QUESTION 2 (15 MARKS)


The Car Park Rates at Liat Towers, Orchard Road are given below:

(1) Monday to Saturday (7:00am 6:00 pm)


(2) 1st hour - $2.50
(3) Subsequent hour or part thereof $1.30
(4) Per Entry (6:00pm-12:00 midnight) $3.50
(5) Sunday & Public Holiday
Per Entry (7:00am 12:00 midnight) $3.50

There are five different conditions listed above. Assume for our purposes that you do not
start any earlier than 7:00 am and that you do not park beyond 12 midnight.
Using just conditions (1) to (4) [ignore the Sun and Hol condition], complete the
