Feasts and Fun

While September marks the end of summer (insert sad face here), it also marks a
new beginning. Everybody likes a fresh startright?! A brand new folder or book
cover in March doesnt carry nearly the excitement that one carries in September.
The start of a new school year is the perfect time to introduce something new or renew
something that has waned. Whether its a family Rosary, family dinner, or getting back to
Massnow is the time for new or renewed beginnings
By tradition, the Catholic Church
dedicates each month of the year to a
certain devotion
The month of September is
dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows.
Parish Liasons
As you know, MCS is a regional
school and we are not linked to any
one single parish. Parish Liasons
provide a valuable tool in helping to
bring about a stronger sense of
community between our school and
all of our parishes.
Right now liasons are our missing
link!
If you would be interested in
representing your parish by
keeping us updated on any
important happenings, etc.Please
contact me!

Feast day September 27

September Highlights

8 Birth of MaryThe Church celebrates the

beginning of redemption with the appearance in the world

of the Saviors mother, Mary. Since Sept. 8 marks the end
of summer and beginning of fall, there are many
thanksgiving celebrations related to it. In the Old Roman
Ritual there is a blessing of the summer harvest and fall
planting seeds for this day. For funstart researching &
planning to plant a Mary Garden.

21 St. MatthewAt the time Jesus called him to follow

Him, Matthew was a tax collector for the Romans. Read

how he was called away from his job to be a disciple in
Matt. 9:9-13.
For funBake a cake and drop a few (clean) coins in the
batter in memory of St. Matthews former job. Whoever
gets a coin in his cake can trade it in for a small prize.
Maybe we could also say a prayer for our poor old local tax
collector who may not get prayed for very often! (Faith &
Family)

23 Pio of PietrelcinaWhile praying before the

cross on September 20, 1918, Padre Pio received the

stigmata. He is the first priest ever to be so blessed.
For funThe whole family will enjoy watching Padre Pio:
Miracle Man. Available to rent at Stella Maris Catholic
Bookstore in Wakefield.

29 Sts. Michael, Gabriel, & Raphael,

ArchangelsAngels are pure, created spirits. The

name angel means servant or messenger of God. Angels

are celestial or heavenly beings, on a higher order than
human beings. The have no bodies and do not depend on
matter for their existence or activity. They are different
from saints, which men can become. Angels have intellect
and will and re immortal. They are a vast multitude, but
each is an individual person. Archangels are one of the
nine choirs of angels listed in the Bible.
For funMake St. Michael's Gaufres (Recipe included)
