ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:Passed relevant craft course in Business Management
OR
Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
with an average grade of C plain and must have attained a
minimum of grade C- in mathematics and English
OR
Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National
Examinations Council (KNEC)

BACKGROUND

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The International Development Institute-Africa


(IDIA) is a private value based knowledge enterprise.
The conceptualization of the institution started in June
2008 leading to its registration as the International
Institute of Health and Development Policy and Research in Africa (IIHDPAR Africa) in December 2008
In January 2009, A Foundational Plan (2009-2012)
was developed to guide the establishment of the institution as a knowledge and social enterprise of excellence. In March 2011 the name IIHDPAR-Africa was
changed to International Development Institute Africa
(IDIA).

By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:Describe the role played by different departments in an
organization
Appreciate the use of tools of analysis in decision making in an organization
Communicate effectively in day today business management activities
Apply selling and marketing principles in an organization
Apply the legal aspects in the management of an organization
Demonstrate knowledge on emerging trends and issues
in an organization management
Assess the impact of the environment in the management of an organization
Recognize self employment as an alternative to formal
employment

The course is designed to have 2970 hours. The trainee
spends 2310 hours in the institution and 660 hours in industrial attachment. The course is structured in THREE Modules as continued below:

OVERVIEW OF THE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS
MANAGEMENT

COMPULSORY INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT


Diploma in Business Management is designed to
equip the trainee with relevant knowledge, skills and
attitudes to enable him or her to perform administrative duties as a middle level manager in an organization. A graduate of this course will be able to work in
a salaried or self employment.

Before the end of the course, every trainee shall undergo an


industrial attachment/internship of 660 hours. Industrial
attachment shall be an integral part of training and its assessment shall form part of the final grade and certification.

COURSE WORK MARKS
Continuous assessment marks for the course work must
be kept by the institution and details must be submitted to
the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in
respect of each candidate entered for the examinations at
least two weeks before the external examination is taken.
COURSE WORK ASSESSMENT
Continuous assessment will be given a weighting of 30%
and the external examinations by KNEC will be given a
weighting of 70% in the determination of the final grade.
