Brittany Archambeault Is Artist of the Month at Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass Arts and Gallerys
December Artist of the Month is
Brittany Archambault. There will be
a reception in her honor this Friday,
December 5th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

On display at Wheatgrass for the
month of December is a collection of
Brittanys typography artworks.
Its basically a Sharpie on
canvas, she explained, with a splash
of Gouache (opaque water color)
here and there. Ive always enjoyed

typography as no two pieces are ever

alike, she says. I love that.
If Brittany finds a quote that
just seems fitting, her Sharpie goes
to work, be it two words or a lengthy
sentence. One of her works happens
to be a quote from her pastor that hit
home with her: Seek the Kingdom of
God above all else and live righteously
and he will give you all that you need.
Another favorite is a quote her
mother found: Every love story is

beautiful but ours is my favorite.

Brittanys Sharpie can also go
to the canvas for anyone who has a
quote or saying.
Everyone is welcome to stop by
Wheatgrass Arts and Gallery, located
at 531 2nd Avenue South, this Friday
evening for some wine, cheese and
a little Christmas cheer to check out
Brittanys brilliant typography and
browse through the other artists
displays.

Youth Serve Montana Scholarships
The Governors Office of Community Service,
Montana Campus Compact, and Student Assistance
Foundation announced today that the 2015 Youth Serve
Montana Scholarships are now available for up to 100
Montana high school seniors. It is the tenth year for
this exciting scholarship opportunity aimed at students
dedicated to volunteering.
The Youth Serve Montana Scholarships reward
students who have volunteered over 100 hours in the last
year and who want to further their education in state.
This year, 100 high school seniors will receive $1,000
toward continued education at one of Montana Campus
Compacts public, tribal, private, or community colleges
and universities.
Community Service is an important factor for
college admission officers when determining the
students who will attend their institution, said Lt.
Governor Angela McLean. Students who are dedicated
to improving their communities at home are likely to
continue that commitment as they pursue a continued
education elsewhere in Montana. I am always impressed

to see the time and resources that many high school

seniors devote to brightening the lives of those around
them while also preparing for their future, and this
scholarship provides an opportunity to do just that.
These scholarships are an important way we
recognize students for their commitment to bettering
their communities, said Jane Karas, Ph.D ., chair of
Montana Campus Compact and president of Flathead
Valley Community College. By rewarding these
students, we are positively reinforcing their choices and
providing a lasting impact that will encourage them to
be lifelong volunteers.
Students throughout Montana deserve a reward
for the thousands of hours they contribute annually to
making Montana a better place, said Kelly Cresswell,
Student Assistance Foundation vice president of
Foundation Activities. Student Assistance Foundation
is honored to play a role in recognizing these students
through the Youth Serve Montana Scholarships.
The Youth Serve Montana Scholarship application
form, guidelines, and FAQs can be found online at serve.
mt.gov. Completed applications, proof of volunteer hours,
confirmation of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA), and enrollment in a Montana post-secondary
institution must be submitted to the Governors Office of
Community Service by April 15, 2015.
The Youth Serve Montana Scholarship application
form can now be accessed, filled out, and submitted
through an online form powered by Student Assistance
Foundation. The link to the online form is located on
serve.mt.gov/youth-servemontana.
The Governors Office of Community Service,
Montana Campus Compact, and Student Assistance
Foundation would like to encourage students seeking
volunteer work to take advantage of the increase in
volunteer opportunities during the holiday season.
Students should contact local shelters, food banks, or
volunteer organizations to see how they can best serve
their community. Youth Serve Montana Scholarships
have been made possible through support from the
Governors Office of Community Service, Montana
Campus Compact, and Student Assistance Foundation.
Student Assistance Foundation is a nonprofit
Montana corporation that provides students with
knowledge and tools to pursue and fund their
postsecondary education. Funds generated by SAF
are returned to Montanans in the form of education
grants, scholarships and public benefit programs - to
date totaling more than $29.6 million. Visit http://www.

rules, a $5,000 prize for the win and a new world record.

And there will actually be more than one champion
as there is also the womens elite beer milers.
Now, here are the official rules for this evenings
Flotrack Beer Mile World Championships:
Each competitor drinks four cans (or bottles) of beer
and runs four laps on a track.
Start - beer/lap, beer/lap, beer/lap, beer/lap - Finish

Beer must be consumed before the lap has begun,

within the transition area.
(The 10 meter zone before the start/finish line.)
The race begins with the drinking of the first beer in the
last meter of the transition zone.
This ensures the competitors run a complete mile.
Competitors must drink cans or bottles of beer and the
contents will be no less than 12oz.
Bottles may be substituted for cans as long as they are at
least 12 oz (355 ml) in volume.
No specialized cans or bottles may be used that give an
advantage by allowing the beer to pour at a faster rate.
Super mega mouth cans or vortex bottles and other
such containers are prohibited.
Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner.
No shotgunning or puncturing of the can except for
opening the can by the tab at the top.
Beer must be a minimum of 5% alcohol by volume.
The beer must be a fermented alcoholic beverage
brewed from malt and flavored with hops.
Each beer can must not be opened until the competitor
enters the transition zone on each lap.
Competitors who vomit before they finish the race must
complete one penalty lap at the end of the race.
Immediately after the completion of their 4th lap.

Like it or not, beer-mile mania is for real. Beer

milers are in running clubs and start-ups, on campuses

and Olympic teams. In fact, the guys who invented it
are now teachers, accountants, IT executivesin other
words, well-adjusted folks who could be your neighbors.
Lance Armstrong even decided to give the sport a
go at a recent qualifying event, but the challenge proved
too much. Armstrong has completed the New York City
Marathon in under three hours twice, but the disgraced
cyclist was unable to make it past a single lap of the Beer
Mile.
Watch the Beer Mile World Championships live as
it is being broadcasted from Yellow Jacket Stadium in
Austin, Texas; coverage begins at 5:00 our time. Go to
www.flotrack.com. The women elite run at 6:25 p.m. with
the men elite to follow. Tune in to see who will be crowned
the first ever Flotrack Beer Mile World Champion!
