Objective

To provide WiFi coverage in a closed architecture (Malls, Hospitals etc.) using the IBS-DAS
deployed for 2G,3G coverage thereby reducing the CAPEX to a great extent.

Distributed Antenna System (DAS)

A distributed antenna system, or DAS, is a network of spatially separated antenna sites

called nodes connected to a common source that provides wireless service within a
geographic area or structure. DAS antennae are typically installed near the top of light
standards or on utility poles
The DAS antennae are typically mounted 20-40 feet above the ground. The idea is to split
the transmitted signal among several antenna sites, separated in space so as to provide
coverage over the same area as a single antenna but with reduced total power and
improved reliability. A single antenna radiating at high power is replaced by a group of lowpower antennas to cover the same area. Some of the other advantages of DAS include the
ability to provide service for multiple wireless carriers. Bharti uses this existing DAS to
provide coverage of it 2G and 3G networks as a part of its In-Building solutions. Bharti
Intends to use the same DAS to provide coverage on

Access Points:

Access points act as source of WiFi signals intended to be made available. Some access
points have external antenna ports. The ones with such port can be integrated with IBS-DAS
systems

WIFI on DAS Solution

Requirements
a)Diplexer with two input ports- port 1 800-2200 MHz and port 2- 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz
b)Access point with transmit power greater than or equal to 27dBm and N-female external antenna
port for 2.4GHz
OR
Access point with transmit power greater than or equal to 30dBm and RP-SMA external antenna
port for 2.4GHz
NOTE: N-female external antenna port is preferred. Performance may vary with AP vendor with AP
having RP-SMA port but guaranteed performance has been tested with N-Female port
c) A DAS system which has antennae within 25 mtr. of the desired area to be covered

Methodology

Integrate the diplexer and access point as shown in

Measure the RSSI at the desired area.If the RSSI is better than -65 dBm, the system will work
fine.Else integrate the system just before the first Coupler at floor and measure the RSSI. And if this
doesnt servers the purpose then integrate after the Coupler (In this situation, One AP per floor will
be required)
