Proposal for preparing a project/Scheme on_Jyotis-Shastra.

Discipline of the Project/Scheme:- The Title of the project/scheme should be concise (with
sub-title, if any) reflecting the scope of the investigation.
Sanskrit-Angrezi-Hindi-Bhasa-Likhit-BharatiyaJyotish-Paribhashik-Shabdkosha
(Dictionary of Terminological words of Bharatiya Jyotish in Sanskrit, English & Hindi).

Aim of the Project/scheme:- The broad Aim of the project/scheme emphasizing the overall
thrust of the proposed investigation should be clearly mentioned.
1. To provided an authentic Dictionary of terminology of Jyotish to the world.
2. To prepare such dictionary that not only clears the doubts of beginners of Jyotish-Shastra
but also provides them a concrete platform to enter in the realm of Jyotisha Shastrs.
3. To introduce an authentic lexicon of Jyotish-Shastra that not only eradicates the doubts
of Jyotishi
(Scholar of Jyotisha Shastra) but also provides the exact form of the
subject.

Overview of Literature:- The aim identified should be logically linked to other studies on
the theme in the literature delineating the need for the present investigation.
The present available works on this topic are:
Focused on words rather than terminology of Jyotisha.
Brief (consisting few words).
Lacking elaboration & elucidation of words.
Without requisite charts, graphs, diagrams, photographs and references.
In one language which confide its reach to lesser people.
Not published by any recognized and formidable institution like Rashtriya Sanskrit
Sansthan.
Due to above mentioned shortcomings; the proposed Dictionary would be very
much essential, significant, relevant and useful as it will ward off above mentioned
lacunae.
Conceptual Framework:- The concepts to be used, their relevance and applicability to the
study and their operationalisation should be indicated.
Concept to be used - The latest concept of Encyclopedia will be used to prepare this
Dictionary. This Dictionary will not only provide the meaning and definition of the

terminology but enriched with references in chronological order along with latest
development, research or information (if any) about the word.
Relevance - Since the proposed work is :

based on terminological words of Bharatiya Jyotisha

Formidable (Covering more words)

Lucid, elaborated & user-friendly with the help of necessary charts, graphs,
diagrams etc

Prepared in 3 languages (Hence, will reach to more readers)

Enriched with references and latest updates, which makes it more meaningful

Authentic as published by a premier Institution (R.Sk.S. N.Delhi)
Hence, it will be more relevant, significant, useful in present scenario.
Project/Research Questions or Hypotheses: The project/research questions to be
answered/addressed need to be unequivocally stated.
N.A. as, it is pure academic work based on literature of Jyotisha-Shastra and not a survey
based work.
Project/Research Methodology :-

(a)

Coverage: The proposal should clearly indicate the universe of the study,
sampling frame, sampling methods, sampling size, units of observation etc.

N.A. as, it is pure academic work to prepare Dictionary based on literature of JyotishaShastra and not a survey based work.

Data Collection: The proposal should indicate sources of data types of data,
tools and techniques for collection of various categories of proposed data.
N.A. as, it is pure academic work to prepare Dictionary based on literature of JyotishaShastra and not a survey based work. (Cards rather than Data will be prepared, based on
various Texts of Jyotisha- Shastra and modern development. )

Data Analysis: It should indicate the statistical techniques, if any, proposed to be

used in data processing, specific packages for data analysis, content analysis,
indices/scaling techniques proposed to be used etc.

N.A. as, it is pure academic work to prepare Dictionary based on literature of JyotishaShastra and not a survey based work.

Implications:- The proposal should state whether this project/research would bring forth
any implications for policy making either for the region concerned or the country, any
methodological innovations or contribute to theory building.

References:- The proposal should include a List of References mentioned in the text
along with other important recent additions to the literature on the theme. The references
should indicate the author, title, publisher and year of publication.
A short list is enclosed along with this Performa.

Duration of the Project/Research work:- The duration of the project/research can be

estimated depending upon the scope and size of the project but should not exceed two
years. It should indicate the time needed for various tasks such as preparation of schedules,
pilot study (if any), data collection, data analysis, report writing etc.
2 Years.
15 Days for the preparation of schedule,
6 months for the collection of words along with references and updates in first slot 1000
words,
7 months for the collection of words along with references and updates in second slot
2000 words,
6 months for the collection of words along with references and updates in Third slot 1500
words,
4 months for the collection of words along with references and updates in forth slot 500
words,
2 months & 15 days for final preparation & Press copy.

Personnel :- It should indicate the number and category of personnel needed for various
tasks, their qualifications and the man-months needed with adequate justification.
As it is a big academic work, it needs 4 Senior research fellows (S.R.Fs) and 1 Data entry
operator (D.E.O.) to complete the enormous task on time.
Qualification & Salary of S.R.Fs & D.E.O. As per UGC norms.

Budget: This should indicate the cost of personnel, travel (no. of days and places with
justification), data processing, stationery and printing, books, journals, equipment,
contingency and any other items.

Summary :- Five copies of Summary of the project/research proposal (about 500 words)
indicating the statement of the problem, objective of the study, research questions or
hypothesis or both, sample size (if any) and research methodology should be provided.

Problem
In contemporary world, human being is puzzled by his unmatchable ambition,
immitigable & limitless desires and susceptible future. In the midst of this gloominess,
when his endevours to get some respite goes into vein, as he is being exploited and
plundered by pseudo-astrologers with the help of ambiguous and unauthentic literature
and witty use of jyotisha terminology, his panic resulted into resentment and
disagreement to the Jyotisha-Shastra. As a result, this very science (Jyotisha Shastra) is
being perished and its existence as a science is being questioned today. Adding to this
problem, there are various web-sites oozing on internet and several Astro-programmes on
TV channels daily to create enigma and scare about "Grahon ki chaal!" or Outcome of
Planetary motion for lucrative means. Unavailability of an authentic multilingual
encyclopedic dictionary of terminological words of Jyotisha is making this problem more
severe.
In this bizarre situation, the onus is on an institution like Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan to
produce an authentic literature like Dictionary related to Jyotisha that would not only
manifest the exact form of this Shastra by fleshing out the subtleties unequivocally and
eradicate the doubts of the exponents but also provide a suitable platform to the beginners
or Lehman of jyotisha-shastra in order to re-establish its existence and glory as a science.

Objective of the study

1. To provided an authentic Dictionary of terminology of Jyotish to the world.
2. To prepare such dictionary that not only clears the doubts of beginners of Jyotish-Shastra
but also provides them a concrete platform to enter in the realm of Jyotisha Shastrs.
3. To introduce an authentic lexicon of Jyotish-Shastra that not only eradicates the doubts
of Jyotishi (Scholar of Jyotisha Shastra) but also provides the exact form of the
subject.
