When installing the machine and associated options as a system, follow the order shown on the upper.
Note:
For the detailed installation procedures for each option, follow the instructions given in the corresponding
Installation Manual and perform the procedures correctly.
When placing the machine on the floor, make sure to use the Paper Feed Cabinet or the Desk to secure
the performance and the quality of the product.
Once the Power Switch is turned ON, do not turn OFF it until the installation work has been completed.
Make available collective manpower of an appropriate size for transporting the machine. (Machine mass:
76 kg/167-1/2 lb)

hand. It will be used for the Dehumidifier Heater.

III. Pre-installation Check Items


1. Select a level and stable place for installing the
machine.
2. Be sure to use a power source of the voltage and
frequency indicated in the product specifications.
Ensure that the current carrying capacity of the
power outlet is at least equal to the current listed
in the product specifications.
3. Power the machine directly from a dedicated
power outlet. (Do not use an extension cord.)
4. Do not plug or unplug the power cord with wet or
dirty hands, otherwise you may get an electric
shock.
5. Avoid a hot and humid environment, or a place
exposed to direct sunlight.
6. Avoid a dusty location, or a place near volatile
and flammable substances.
7. Avoid a poorly ventilated place.

V. Removing the Machine

1. Open the shipping carton and remove the IU carton and machine carton.

Install the Drawer Cover furnished with the Paper


Feed Cabinet (PC-103, PC-203) first before
attaching the machine to Paper Feed Cabinet.
(two screws furnished with the Paper Feed Cabinet)
When attaching the machine, as the reference fit
the machine with the corner A and B of the Drawer
Cover.

3. Remove protective tape from different parts of


the machine.

6. Close the fusing cover and then close the right


door.

4. Remove the protected parts as shown in the illustration.

7. Slide out the 1st drawer and remove protective


tape and packing materials from the inside of the
drawer.

5. Push up the right and left release levers.


Note:
Remove the protected parts fallen off from the
machine when the released levers are pushed up.

8. Slide out the 2nd drawer and remove protective


tape from the inside of the drawer.

VII. Installing the IU

4. Keeping the IU in the level position, insert it all


the way as far as it will go.

1. Open the front door.

Note:
Make sure that the color is same between
inserting port and the IU.
Make sure that the blue label position of the IU
is matched with the one of the machine side.

2. Tilt the IU to the left and, in that condition, shake it


over a small stroke twice. Then, tilt the IU to the
right and, in that condition, shake it over a small
stroke twice.
Note:
Shake the IU adequately. Otherwise, it may cause
trouble.

5. Lift up the IU handle and pull out the photo conductor sheet slowly holding the IU.

6. Push the IU all the way in.


Note:
Make sure that the IU is pushed all the way in.

3. Remove the top cap of the IU.

7. Using the same procedure, install all IUs.

VIII. Installing the Toner Cartridge

3. Push the toner cartridge all the way in.


Note:
Make sure that the toner cartridge is pushed all
the way in.

Note:
Since cartridge is not furnished with the machine,
purchase toner cartridge (of different colors) separately.
1. Tilt the Toner Cartridge to the left and, in that condition, shake it over a small stroke twice. Then,
tilt the Toner Cartridge to the right and, in that
condition, shake it over a small stroke twice.
Note:
Shake the cartridge adequately. Otherwise, it may
cause trouble.

4. Using the same procedure, install the toner cartridges for other colors of toner.
5. Close the front door.

2. Insert the toner cartridge into the machine.


Note:
Make sure that the color is same between
inserting port and the toner cartridge.
Make sure that the blue label position of the
toner cartridge is matched with the one of the
machine side.

IX. Connecting the Power Cord and

4. Install the cover furnished with the machine to the


machine at the location shown on the right.

Set up the equipment in order to print a test pattern


and make the necessary adjustments.

Note:
Prepare aluminum tape before beginning the
setup.

Note:
Do not turn on any equipment until you are
instructed to do so.

1. Using a DTP32 cross-cable, connect the I/O port


of the X-Rite to port B of the selector.

Note:
The notebook PC should be started up, and the
printer should be turned on before the External
Panel Controller is started up.
If an error message appears, follow the instructions described in the message.
Do not quit the External Panel Controller while
it is being used. If it is quit, restart the machine
and the External Panel Controller.
1. Hold down the Menu/Select key in the control
panel, and then turn on the printer.
Note:
Keep the Menu/Select key held down until the indicator in the control panel goes off or the message
Please Wait. appears.

2. Using the RS232 straight cable (2), connect the


COM 1 port of the computer to port C on the
selector.

When connecting to the COM2 port, set the External Panel Controller port setting to COM2.

3. Start up the External Panel Controller on the

5. Check that the External Panel Controller appears


in the computer screen.
Note:
If the External Panel Controller does not appear in
the computer screen, turn the printer off, then on
again, and then restart the External Panel Controller.

XV. Setting the baud rate for X-Rite


Note:
Once the baud rate is set, it does not need to be
set again from next time.
1. Press the button 1 twice when the screen below
is displayed on X-Rite.

1. Display the Service Mode screen. (For details of

when 19.2 is displayed.

Test patterns are printed for the four colors.

Note:
It will take approximately 2 minutes for the test
patterns to be printed.
During printing, do not open the front door. If it
is opened, restart the procedure from step 3,

6. Check that the dialog box appears, and then click


OK in the dialog box.
Note:
If the selector is being used, set the selector knob
to B.

can be read.
Prepare the auto-cal strip.

11.Prepare the cyan test pattern, set the X-Rite


guide to 10, and then feed the pattern in direction 1 to read the row represented by A.
Align the test pattern with the guide, and insert
the pattern into the X-Rite.
Note:
The arrows indicate the direction that the pattern should be fed into the X-Rite.
The arrows shown in the illustration are not
printed on the actual test pattern.

23.Check that the dialog box appears, set the selector knob on the selector from B to A, and then
click [OK] in the dialog box.
Note:
Be sure to click [OK] only after the selector knob
has been set.

XVII. Date/Time Setting


1. Click the Reset key, and then make sure that the
Service Mode screen appeared.
2. Display the Date & Time Setting screen.
(To display the Date & Time Setting screen, press
Stop 1 1 4 4 Clear on the Control
Panel.)

time arrives for each of the different units.

1. Select the Install Date function as follows:


System 1 Install Date.
2. Click the clear key.

Note:
Touching the Entry key returns the figures in the
Install Date screen to 0 and Install Date has been
completed.

unit.

XIX. Serial Number Input

1. Select the Serial Number Input function as follows: System 1 Serial Number.
2. Making sure that Printer is selected on the
screen, enter the serial number of the printer from
the 10-key pad.
3. Following the same procedure, enter the serial
numbers of all other units.
Note:
Scanner and Duplex do not need to be input.
4. Click END.

If Daylight Savings is set to OFF, press the
Menu/Select key without specifying a time.
13.Press the Cancel key.
14.Turn OFF and ON the Main Power Switch.

XXV. Attaching the Connector Cover

XXVIII. Network Setting

Attach the connector cover furnished with the


machine.

Make the TCP/IP address setting for the network.


IP Address: IP address of the controller
Subnet Mask: Subnet mask of the network, to
which the machine is connected
Gateway address: IP address of the default gateway
Note:
Consult the network administrator for the setting
value to be entered and make settings as
required.
