Most graduates leave college with little experience

and wishing they had done more. This is not the
situation for Casey Sigerman, a 2014 Texas State
University graduate who spent all four of her years in
Sigma Phi Lambda, a Christian organization on
campus.
Casey came to college with high ambitions. Her
freshman year, she set out to make new friends and
join an organization that would develop her skills and
increase her faith. Thats when she found Sigma Phi
Lambda.
Sigma Phi Lambda is a Christian sorority at Texas
State that exists to glorify God and show His love to
the students on campus.
When Casey joined, she never thought that it would
impact her the way it did.
Joining as a freshman you think, wow this will be a
place that I will make some friends, Sigerman said.
But I never envisioned that it would help me grow as
a person, as a professional and as a Christian all at the same time.
Casey now teaches eleventh grade English at a high school in San Antonio. Her degree from
Texas State is in English with a teaching certification.
Casey landed the job in San Antonio before she even graduated college, and she accredits most
of the networking and communication skills to Phi Lamb.
I became a Pledge Trainer my junior year and then moved up to Vice President my senior year,
Sigerman said. It really developed my communication, public speaking, networking, problemsolving and leadership skills.
The duties of the Pledge Trainer included planning the pledge retreat, conducting meetings, and
teaching the pledges the way of life in the sorority. When she became Vice President, she had to
consult with other organizations, plan all the events, and speak in front of the chapter. All of
these skills lead her to be confident in her job.

The last semester of my senior year I went to a job fair and they actually asked to interview me
right on the spot, Sigerman said. Most of the responsibilities I had in Phi Lamb really made the
whole interview process a breeze.
Sigma Phi Lambda is not all about gaining experience for jobs, but that is what comes along with
the experience. Casey says nobody really plans to join Phi Lamb with the intent of getting ahead
in their career search. But it was just something that happens when youre a leader in an
organization.
I cant say enough about how much Phi Lamb really changed my life, Sigerman said. I would
recommend joining to anyone and everyone.
Sigma Phi Lambdas main purpose is to foster Christian growth. Joining the organization creates
unity and allows for sisters in Christ to grow together throughout their college experience.
The organization is active in the community and has events every year specifically to reach the
students of Texas State.
In the fall of 2014 Sigma Phi Lambda nearly doubled in size from recruitment and is now at 110
members. This will allow for more interaction, more outreach, and more growth.
