(2010). [e-Book] Atlas of the world's languages in danger. Paris, Unesco. Texto completo:
http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0018/001870/187026e.pdf
Over recent decades, as information technologies have brought more of the worlds
knowledge to more of the worlds people at unprecedented speed, humanitys linguistic diversity
has been shrinking. That process is inexorable but not inevitable: international cooperation and
well-planned, intelligently implemented language policies can bolster the ongoing efforts of
speaker communities to maintain their mother tongues and pass them on to their children, even in
the face of powerful forces pressing them to shift towards larger languages. When UNESCO
published the first edition of the Atlas of the Worlds languages in Danger in 1996, it sounded an
international alarm that has now been heard by public officials and policy makers, language
communities and scholars, the media and civil society worldwide. With this third edition
available since February 2009 in an online digital format we note that while the gravity and
urgency of the problem of language loss are no less acute today, our tools for understanding the
phenomenon are increasingly effective, and our repertoire of proven responses continues to grow
daily.

2012; Isaacs, 2012b; Lugo y Schurmann, 2012; Roschelle, 2003; So, 2012; West, 2012b).
directa a esas preguntas.
Digital.

Pite Saami is a highly endangered Western Saami language in the Uralic language family
currently spoken by a few individuals in Swedish Lapland. This grammar is the first extensive
book-length treatment of a Saami language written in English. While focussing on the
morphophonology of the main word classes nouns, adjectives and verbs, it also deals with other
linguistic structures such as prosody, phonology, phrase types and clauses. Furthermore, it
provides an introduction to the language and its speakers, and an outline of a preliminary Pite
Saami orthography. An extensive annotated spoken-language corpus collected over the course of
five years forms the empirical foundation for this description, and each example includes a
specific reference to the corpus in order to facilitate verification of claims made on the data.
Descriptions are presented for a general linguistics audience and without attempting to support a
specific theoretical approach. This book should be equally useful for scholars of Uralic
linguistics, typologists, and even learners of Pite Saami.

UNESCO believes that mobile technologies can expand and enrich educational
opportunities for learners in diverse settings. Today, a growing body of evidence suggests that
ubiquitous mobile devices especially mobile phones and, more recently, tablet computers are
being used by learners and educators around the world to access information, streamline
administration and facilitate learning in new and innovative ways. This set of guidelines seeks to
help policy-makers better understand what mobile learning is and how its unique benefits can be
leveraged to advance progress towards Education for All. Developed in consultation with experts
in over twenty countries, the guidelines below have broad application and can accommodate a
wide range of institutions, including K12 schools, universities, community centres, and
technical and vocational schools. Policy-makers are encouraged to adopt UNESCOs policy
recommendations, tailoring them as necessary to reflect the unique needs and on-the-ground
realities of local conte

completo:

ones/Deloitte_ES_TMT_Consumo-movil-espana-2014-def.pdf

completo:
http://www.researchconsulting.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Research-Consulting-Countin
g-the-Costs-of-OA-Final.pdf
Research Councils UK (RCUK) and the Higher Education Funding Councils are the two
most significant providers of public funding for research in the UK. Both have recently
introduced new requirements for UK research organisations to make their published outputs
openly accessible. Research Consulting was commissioned by London Higher and SPARC
Europe to undertake this study of the costs to research organisations of implementing these
requirements. The total cost to UK research organisations in the 2013/14 academic year of
implementing the RCUK open access policy was at least 9.2m. This figure excludes
expenditure on article processing charges (APCs) for RCUK publications ofsome 11m or
more, meaning the total costs were in excessof 20m. The majority of implementation costs
related to management, advocacy and infrastructure development. Article administration
accounted for only a small proportion of the total, at 0.8m for gold and 0.1m for green open
access. While APCs and a proportion of other costs can be met from RCUK block grants, many
costs are not recoverable through this route, and must be borne by research organisations. In the
case of less research-intensive institutions, the cost of implementation vastly outweighs spending
on articles, and is substantially greater than the block grant funding these institutions receive
from RCUK.

Texto completo:
http://eldiae.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/El-espa%C3%B1ol-lengua-viva-2014.pdf

countries. Paris, Unesco. Texto completo:
http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0022/002274/227436e.pdf
For centuries, limited access to text has been a barrier to literacy. Reading requires
books. Without them literacy remains out of reach. Today, however, this barrier is receding
thanks to the spread of inexpensive mobile technology. Basic mobile phones offer a new,
affordable and easy-touse portal to reading material. While UNESCO research indicates that
hundreds of thousands of people in countries like Ethiopia, Nigeria and Pakistan are reading on
mobile devices, very little is known about these readers. This information gap hampers efforts to
expand the footprint of mobile reading and realize the educational and socio-economic benefits
associated with increased reading. Drawing on findings from a year-long study, this report
explains the habits, preferences and demographic profiles of mobile readers in seven developing
countries. By painting a picture of how mobile reading is practiced today and by whom, it offers
insights into how mobile technology can be leveraged to better facilitate reading in countries
where literacy rates are low. The report was created through an ongoing partnership between
UNESCO, Nokia and Worldreader and is part of a two-paper series on mobile reading. The other
complementary publication, Reading without Books, reviews mobile reading initiatives around
the world, identifying their strengths and weaknesses in order to steer the development of future
projects. Cumulatively, the two publications explain how mobile technology can empower
readers and further literacy in developing countries and beyond.

Americas libraries continue to transform themselves, keeping pace with the changing
economic, social, and technological aspects of American society. Libraries deepening
engagement with their communities takes many forms, from technology to education to social
services, and serves many segments of the population. In Public Libraries and Resilient Cities
(ALA Editions, 2013), Michael Dudley has assembled examples of public libraries engaging in
innovative services geared toward addressing current social, economic, and environmental
issues, often through partnerships with governments and other organizations. Public libraries are
responding to a wide range of ongoing and emerging needs, Dudley says, not just as providers of
information but as providers of experiences as well, hosting programming and events (often with
community partners) and facilitating content creation through the provision of high-tech maker
spaces. Public libraries are an essential partner for individuals, groups, businesses and
governmentsindeed, for society itself.

This material is especially meant for students that are in their 3rd year of the
Undergraduate Degree of Advertising and Public Relations and will have to defend their TFGs
(final year projects) shortly. It has been inspired by prestigious manuals (Galdn Lpez, 2002;
Gimnez Toledo, 2004; Cordn Garca, 2012) that have been recommended as important
bibliographical references when teaching the subject Documentacin Informativa in the old
degree (20002012). The subject, being now obligatory in the European Higher Education Area
(EHEA), changed its name to Information Management in Communication and it is, as I said
before, crucial for all students taking their final year projects (TFGs). This compilation would
like to be a reference tool to let users know loads of resources and also help them find those
resources that they could remember seeing somewhere, but cant remember where. Updated
summaries and reviews of information resources have been provided, so they can inspire
students and future researchers to check for themselves the usefulness of the sites. The
information resources that are shown in this paper are reasonably stable and there is some
guarantee that URLs will stay where they are. I have made every possible effort to ensure that
the information contained and presented to you is accurate at the time of printing.ar projects

In

Phonology and Sound Change. Texto completo:
http://www.doabooks.org/doab?func=fulltext&rid=15139
The Atlas of North American English provides the first overall view of the pronunciation
and vowel systems of the dialects of the U.S. and Canada. The Atlas re-defines the regional
dialects of American English on the basis of sound changes active in the 1990s and draws new
boundaries reflecting those changes. It is based on a telephone survey of 762 local speakers,
representing all the urbanized areas of North America. It has been developed by Bill Labov, one
of the leading sociolinguists of the world, together with his colleagues Sharon Ash and Charles
Boberg. The Atlas consists of a printed volume accompanied by an interactive CD-ROM. The
print and multimedia content is alsoavailable online. Combined Edition: Book and Multimedia
CD-ROM The printed volume contains 23 chapters that re-define the geographic boundaries of
North American dialects and trace the influence of gender, age, education, and city size on the
progress of sound change; findings that show a dramatic and increasing divergence of English in
North America; 139 four color maps that illustrate the regional distribution of phonological and
phonetic variables across the North American continent; 120 four color vowel charts of
individual speakers. The interactive multimedia CD-ROM supplements the printed articles and
maps by providing a data base with measurements of more than 100,000 vowels and mean values
for 439 speakers; the Plotnik program for mapping each of the individual vowel systems;
extended sound samples of all North American dialects; interactive applications to enhance
classroom presentations. Online only Version: Print and Multimedia Content The online only
version offers simultaneous access to the print and multimedia content to all users in the
university/library network; presents a wider selection of interactive data, maps, and audio
samples that will be recurrently updated; provides students with concurrent access to research
material for classroom assignments. Key Features: a multimedia reference tool, overthrows

slides, rare books, sheet music, graphic arts, and maps. They provide a baseline for creating
digital images that are of sufficient quality for long-term preservation. These specifications
should not be seen as a replacement for project-specific analysis of factors such as purpose and
use that might dictate higher level capture standards.

If youre at high school, college or university, youll almost certainly need to write
essays. More and more students are being asked to produce written assignments, even in physics
and mathematics.Writing an essay means more than finding and recording facts. It means
thinking critically: analysing material and reaching a conclusion. It means showing that you
understand the material youve been studying. Above all, it means presenting a coherent
argument.Learning to write essays also prepares us for life beyond college. In the real world,
more and more of us need to be able to express ideas clearly, with good grammar and a flexible
style. Essay writing gives us the skills to become more effective citizens. And yet, all too often,
students are not offered the skills and techniques to write effective essays. How do you start?
What kind of words should you use? Are you entitled to offer your own views on a subject? How
to Write an Essay will make life easier for you. It will help you produce an essay that your tutor
will appreciate, and that will do you credit.

t In this introductory chapter we establish a common understanding of what are and what
drives current changes in research and science. The concepts of Science 2.0 and Open Science
will be introduced. As such we provide a short introduction to the history of science and
knowledge dissemination. We explain the origins of our scienti c culture which evolved around
publication methods. Interdependencies of current concepts will be elucidated and it will be
stated that the transition towards Open Science is a complex cultural change. Reasons as to why
the change is slow are discussed and the main obstacles are identi ed. Next, we explain the recent
changes in scienti c work ows and how these cause changes in the system as a whole.
Furthermore, we provide an overview on the entire book and explain what can be found in each
chapter. Open Science is an umbrella term encompassing a multitude of assumptions about the
future of knowledge creation and dissemination. Based on a literature review, this chapter aims
at structuring the overall discourse by proposing five Open Science schools of thought: The
infrastructure school (which is concerned with the technological architecture), the public school
(which is concerned with the accessibility of knowledge creation), the measurement
school(which is concerned with alternative impact measurement), the democratic
school(which is concerned with access to knowledge) and the pragmatic school (which is
concerned with collaborative research).

Since Chinas reform and opening-up initiative was introduced, the exchange between
Chinese and international LIS community has become more frequent. Stepping into the
twenty-first century, the global information environment has changed rapidly and digital native
has emerged. Peoples information needs, information literacy competency, and information
search behavior are constantly changing, which poses challenges and at the same time, brings
opportunities to LIS profession. In order to explore these challenges and opportunities, and
further develop LIS education, Wuhan University established the National Key Discipline Forum
on LIS in 2008. This Forum puts emphasis on the past, present, and future of LIS education and
theories. Quite a few established experts, educators and theorists have been invited to the forum,
providing valuable insights in the development, trends and research of LIS areas. Our readers
have witnessed the steady efforts of the DIK, developing from China to the world, and from
Chinese version to English version, and some other language versions, in the past 30 years. The
speeches and presentations delivered by experts and scholars on at the Forum and Wuhan
Universitys joining iSchools has created favorable conditions for the development and
progresses.
Case-systems all over the world exhibit striking similarities. In most lan-guages
intransitive subjects (S) receives less overt marking than one of thetwo transitive arguments
(agent-like A or patient-like P); the other one ofthese two arguments is usually encoded by the
same form as S. In somelanguages the amount of overt marking is identical between S, A, and
P.But hardly ever does the S argument receive more overt marking than Aor P. Yet there are
some languages that do not follow this general pattern. This book is about those languages that
behave differently, the marked-Slanguages.Marked-S languages are well-known to be found in
East Africa, wherethey occur in two different language families, Afro-Asiatic and Nilo-Sa-haran.
They can also be found in North-Western America and the Pacificregion. This book is the first
investigation of marked S-languages thattreats the phenomenon on a global scale. The study
examines the functional distribution of the two main case-forms, the form used for S (S-case)
and the case-form of the transitive ar-gument which receives less marking (the zero-case). It
offers a very fine-grained perspective considering a wide range of constructions. The con-texts in
which the case-marking patterns are investigated include nom-inal, existential and locational
predication, subjects in special discoursefunction (e. g. focused constituents), subjects of
passives and dependentclauses, as well as the forms used for addressing someone (vocative
form)and for using a noun in isolation (citation form).Apart from the functional distribution of
case forms, the formal meansof marking are also considered. The main focus is on the
synchronic de-scription and comparison of marked-S languages, but historical explana-tions for
the unusual case-marking pattern are also discussed.

Enfield, N. J. (2014). [e-Book] Natural causes of language: Frames, biases, and cultural
transmission. Texto completo: http://www.doabooks.org/doab?func=fulltext&rid=16499
What causes a language to be the way it is? Some features are universal, some are
inherited, others are borrowed, and yet others are internally innovated. But no matter where a bit
of language is from, it will only exist if it has been diffused and kept in circulation through social
interaction in the history of a community. This book makes the case that a proper understanding
of the ontology of language systems has to be grounded in the causal mechanisms by which
linguistic items are socially transmitted, in communicative contexts. A biased transmission
model provides a basis for understanding why certain things and not others are likely to develop,
spread, and stick in languages. Because bits of language are always parts of systems, we also
need to show how it is that items of knowledge and behavior become structured wholes. The
book argues that to achieve this, we need to see how causal processes apply in multiple frames or
'time scales' simultaneously, and we need to understand and address each and all of these frames
in our work on language. This forces us to confront implications that are not always comfortable:
for example, that "a language" is not a real thing but a convenient fiction, that language-internal
and language-external processes have a lot in common, and that tree diagrams are poor
conceptual tools for understanding the history of languages. By exploring avenues for clear
solutions to these problems, this book suggests a conceptual framework for ultimately
explaining, in causal terms, what languages are like and why they are like that.

This study addresses the most important legal issues when implementing an open access
e-infrastructure for research data. It examines the legal requirements for different kinds of usage
of research data in an open access infrastructure, such as OpenAIREplus, which links them to
publications. The existing legal framework regarding potentially relevant intellectual property
(IP) rights is analysed from the general European perspective as well as from that of selected EU
Member States. Various examples and usage scenarios are used to explain the scope of
protection of the potentially relevant IP rights. In addition different licence models are analysed
in order to identify the licence that is best suited to the aim of open access, especially in the
context of the infrastructure of OpenAIREplus. Based on the outcomes of these analyses, some
recommendations to the European legislator as well as data- and e-infrastructure providers are
given on improving the rights situation in relation to research data.

completo: http://www.doabooks.org/doab?func=fulltext&rid=16324

Open access has had a growing influence in the scholarly publishing world over the last
several years. Despite the heavy discussions and ongoing debates, the full extent of how this
model will impact the current publishing ecosystem is yet to be understood. Publishers
Communication Group (PCG) stands at the crossroads of librarians, researchers and publishers,
and we receive inquiries from all sides regarding open access publishing and the future roles of
these stakeholders. Because of our position in the market, PCG is uniquely qualified to conduct
this study to understand how libraries view open access, what role they play in this model, and
whether there could be potential for libraries and publishers to streamline dealing with APCs.

If you work in a university, you are almost certain to have heard the term 'open access' in
the past couple of years. You may also have heard either that it is the utopian answer to all the
problems of research dissemination or perhaps that it marks the beginning of an apocalyptic new
era of 'pay-to-say' publishing. In this book, Martin Paul Eve sets out the histories, contexts and
controversies for open access, specifically in the humanities. Broaching practical elements
alongside economic histories, open licensing, monographs and funder policies, this book is a
must-read for both those new to ideas about open-access scholarly communications and those
with an already keen interest in the latest developments for the humanities. <p>- Provides a
comprehensive guide to open access for humanities researchers, written by a humanities
researcher <br>- Covers a full range of phenomena concerning open access and the humanities,
including economics, funder policies, open licensing and monographs<br>- Situates open access

This report examines children's media literacy. It provides detailed evidence on media
use, attitudes and understanding among children and young people aged 5-15, as well as detailed
information about the media access and use of young children aged 3-4. The report also includes
findings relating to parents' views about their children's media use, and the ways that parents
seek - or decide not - to monitor or limit use of different types of media. The report is a reference
for industry, stakeholders and consumers. It also provides context to the work Ofcom undertakes
in furthering the interests of consumers and citizens in the markets we regulate. The
Communications Act 2003 placed a responsibility on Ofcom to promote, and to carry out
research in, media literacy. This report on children and parents contributes to Ofcom's fulfilment

This is a book about Strindberg and about the nature of autobiographical writing. In this
sensitive and discerning study, Michael Robinson has turned aside from the more traditional
biographical approach to Strindberg. Instead he sets out to explore the highly idiosyncratic way
in which Strindberg projected himself in language, looking at the problems which this brought in
its trail, and laying bare the subterfuges it engendered. He has not limited himself to those works
explicitly designated by Strindberg as autobiographical, but ranges widely over the dramas, the
narratives and other prose works.

language teaching. The author puts forward an alternative pedagogy, that of a
cultuurtekst-perspective, which engages learners at complex linguistic and cultural levels. In
discussing the case study in which this approach is tested, the author develops her argument for
embracing various critical perspectives through the personal engagement of students. From the
start the author acknowledges her own engaged position as a language teacher in a liberal
humanistic educational environment. She adopts a self -critical perspective through which her
engagement with adverse student reaction leads to deepening insights both for the author and her
students as part of the non-linear process of learning. Gerdi Quist teaches Dutch language and
lectures on multiculturalism and intercultural communication. Recent publications included a
book chapter and journal articles on language pedagogy and intercultural communication.

Come gruppo IOSA, facente capo
Tiziano Mannoni) a ospitare

Essays on the Theology of the Commedia, Ubiquity Press. Texto completo:
http://www.ubiquitypress.com/site/books/detail/1/conversations-with-kenelm/
In a celebratory moment of the Paradiso, Dante has Thomas go round the circle of sage
spirits identifying each in turn in point of proper calling and confirming how it is that self is
everywhere present to the other-than-self as a co-efficient of being in the endless and endlessly
varied instantiation of that being. The image, at once perfectly Dantean and perfectly
resplendent, underlies and informs these conversations of mine with Kenelm; for if in reading
and rereading the cherished text, I have from time to time felt the need to enter a qualification, it
is a matter here, as in the high consistory of paradise, of otherness as both contained and as
authorized by sameness, as conditioned and set free by it for a life of its own. Never, in other
words, is it a question in what follows of the stark alternativism of the sed contra, but instead a
matter of formed friendship, of the kind of friendship which, conceived in love, makes for a
sweet choreography of the spirit.

Thanks to ever-greater digital connectivity, interest in oral traditions has grown beyond
that of researcher and research subject to include a widening pool of global users. When new
publics consume, manipulate and connect with field recordings and digital cultural archives, their
involvement raises important practical and ethical questions. This volume explores the political
repercussions of studying marginalised languages; the role of online tools in ensuring responsible
access to sensitive cultural materials; and ways of ensuring that when digital documents are
created, they are not fossilized as a consequence of being archived. Fieldwork reports by
linguists and anthropologists in three continents provide concrete examples of overcoming
barriers

Weller, M. (2014). [e-Book] The Battle For Open: How openness won and why it doesnt
feel like victory, Ubiquity Press. Texto completo:
http://www.ubiquitypress.com/site/books/detail/11/battle-for-open/
With the success of open access publishing, Massive open online courses (MOOCs) and
open education practices, the open approach to education has moved from the periphery to the
mainstream. This marks a moment of victory for the open education movement, but at the same
time the real battle for the direction of openness begins. As with the green movement, openness
now has a market value and is subject to new tensions, such as venture capitalists funding
MOOC companies. This is a crucial time for determining the future direction of open education.
In this volume, Martin Weller examines four key areas that have been central to the
developments within open education: open access, MOOCs, open education resources and open
scholarship. Exploring the tensions within these key arenas, he argues that ownership over the
future direction of openness is significant to all those with an interest in education.
Writing as Material Practice grapples with the issue of writing as a form of material
culture in its ancient and more recent manifestations, and in the contexts of production and
consumption. Fifteen case studies explore the artefactual nature of writing the ways in which
materials, techniques, colour, scale, orientation and visibility inform the creation of inscribed
objects and spaces, as well as structure subsequent engagement, perception and meaning making.
Covering a temporal span of some 5000 years, from c.3200 BCE to the present day, and ranging
in spatial context from the Americas to the Near East, the chapters in this volume bring a variety
of perspectives which contribute to both specific and broader questions of writing materialities.
The authors also aim to place past graphical systems in their social contexts so they can be
understood in relation to the people who created and attributed meaning to writing and associated
symbolic modes through a diverse array of individual and wider social practices.
Wittenkamp, C. (2014). [e-Book] Building Bridges across Cultural Differences: Why dont I

http://bookboon.com/en/building-bridges-across-cultural-differences-ebook
Have you ever been in the company of people from another country and wondered Why
to they do that? that being anything from the way they greet each other to public policies we
find highly exotic? Building Bridges across Cultural Differences looks at foundations for these
differences because in all human relationships, if we can find a satisfying answer to these
Whys, we are much more likely to connect with people who at first glance seemed somewhat
unpredictable. Exploring values, history, and the ways societies are organized, the book touches
on themes where people from very different backgrounds often disconnect. To make it easier to
gain trust in people who dont behave the way we are used to, the book goes deeper into
differences in communication patterns. Even when you speak the same language it doesnt mean
that you hear the same things or that you focus on the same issues.
