From Therapy Dogs: Training Your Dog to Reach Others

by Kathy Diamond Davis
Dogs of the same sex will in some cases fight to the
death in the same home, or even in the dog park. Killing
fights happen even with opposite sex dogs over food or
highly desirable toys.
What does it mean when a dog kills another animal?
While it shocks humans, killing is normal behavior for
dogs. When dogs do not kill, its due to human
management. Without humans, dogs would have to kill
to survive. Dogs are not vegetarians.
Domestic dogs sometimes eat animals they kill, and dead
animals they find. They also kill out of instinct, without
eating the kill.

Introduction
Local government leaders; business, retail, hotel, and restaurant managers;
people who are in positions of authority, city, county and state park supervisors;
and many others have a decision to make. They have to come down on one side or
the other, they have to stand against the growing trend of allowing dogs more and
more access into the public sphere, or they have to side with the child killers.
Leash laws and breed specific legislation are a step in the right direction; however,
more needs to be done.
Canine Report will address the issue of dog ownership in the U.S. mainly
between the years 2005 and 2011. The following table lists the number of people
killed by dogs during those years:

In the past seven years, dogs have killed 213 people, including 116 children
eleven years old and younger, or about thirty people a year.
In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control published a study showing that
between 1979 and 1998 327 people were killed by dogs in the U.S.
This senseless tragedy should haunt the American consciousness.

Most people have heard the old story about the famous mule trainer;
however, it seems appropriate to repeat it here:
A farmer had a mule that was so stubborn he couldnt get
it to do anything, so he sent for the famous mule trainer.
The famous mule trainer went to the corral where the
stubborn mule was with a length of two by four about
four feet long. He swung the two by four as hard as he
could and hit the mule square in the head, then looked
over at the astonished farmer and said, First you have to
get their attention.
What follows will serve as the whack up-side the head America needs to
help it realize that The life of every pet dog in America is not worth the life of
one child.

Chapter 1
The Culprits
There are many culprits responsible for Americas attitudes concerning
dogs. In some respects, every pet dog owner shares the blame.
The media does not pretend to tell both sides of the dog story because the pet
products industry spends millions of dollars every year advertising pet products,
and they dont want to see any bad news about pets in the media. Alpo, Kibbles N
Bits, Purina, Iams, Pet Smart, Petco, Ol Roy, Pedigree, and others spend millions
of dollars every year advertising on television and in print, and when you are that
kind of customer, your wants and needs are anticipated, you dont even have to
ask. According to Bloomberg Business Week Magazine, Americans spend 41
billion dollars per year on pets.
The multi-billion dollar pet products industry is why the media keeps the
ugly truth about dogs out of the publics consciousness. They have made it
politically incorrect to tell the truth about dogs. If the media told the truth about
dogs and their effect on our safety, health, and quality of life, the huge corporations
that make up the pet products industry would stop spending millions of dollars a
year advertising in the media.
George Orwell once said, All the papers that matter live off their
advertisements, and the advertisers exercise an indirect censorship over news.
Another culprit in this hoodwinking of the public is the American Pet
Products Association (APPA), a not-for-profit trade association that represents
over one thousand pet product manufacturers. Part of their stated mission is to
promote pet ownership. The APPA has a Government and Regulatory Affairs
Department which monitors and reacts to legislation. In other words, theyre a
PAC, a Political Action Committee, looking out for the interests of huge
international pet products corporations.
The APPAs Pets Add Life (PAL) campaign features slick videos
disguised as news items or public service announcements that encourage people to
own more than one dog. This is in spite of the fact that between four and five
million dogs are euthanized every year. In one of their videos, a man with a
3

straight face says, Without that initial phase of dog domestication, civilization
would not have been possible. Evidently dog owners will believe anything.
The APPA is also the chief propagandist for the supposed health benefits of
owning a dog. APPA likes to say that pet owners live longer, thats probably cat
owners, its definitely not the people who are killed by their own dog (it happens
every year). Married people live longer, people with any kind of companion live
longer, people with good health insurance live longer, people who dont smoke
live longer, people who drink a glass of wine everyday live longer. Saying that
dog owners live longer is just more pro-dog propaganda.
Unfortunately the culprits, the people and organizations responsible for an
America going to the dogs are well financed and getting stronger every year.

Chapter 2
The Problem
What follows is not about service dogs, police dogs, war dogs, hunting dogs,
ranch dogs, medical dogs, or any working dogs. This is about pet dogs, companion
dogs; these are the dogs that are killing us.
Dog loving America and its media look the other way while innocent people
are mauled, dismembered, and killed by dogs every year. According to the Centers
for Disease Control (CDC), there are 4.7 million dog bites each year, and of
those 386,000 require ER treatment. According to Postmaster Ronda Mailey, in
2011, 5,600 Postal Service employees were attacked by dogs resulting in $1.2
million in medical expenses. Over 30,000 cosmetic procedures are performed
every year in an attempt to repair the damage done by dogs. Families are
financially ruined. Children and adults are traumatized for life, and the number of
victims continues to increase. Between 1979 and 1998, there were twelve to
fourteen deaths per year resulting from attacks by dogs. Between 2005 and 2011,
more than twice as many people were killed by dogs every year.
Please read this report. Dont let your naivet allow a dumb animal to
destroy your life or the life of someone you love.
If you are bitten, be forewarned, dog owners like to blame the victim. When
a person is killed by a dog, defense attorneys and dog lovers will say it was the
victims fault or the dog owners fault; never the dogs fault. They do this even
though dogs are descended from wolves, and they kill people without provocation
every year.
In February 2012, a Denver television news anchor was doing an arentdogs-wonderful fluff piece about a big dog that had fallen through lake ice and
been rescued. When the female news anchor leaned over and petted the dog, he bit
her face - live on television. She fell to the floor on her hands and knees, bleeding,
while the fireman who rescued the dog, and the dogs owner sat there petting the
dog. The next day YouTube videos of the attack were followed by comments
calling the news anchor every disgusting name in the book. It was all somehow her
fault.
5

Canine Report is also a public service announcement that will hopefully

save the lives of innocent people. It will expose the hidden truth about the canine
menace that is killing uninformed citizens and causing about 386,000 people a
year to seek medical care after being bitten by a dog. While you are reading this
a traumatized child lies in an emergency room bleeding, and a bewildered parent is
trying to comfort him or her.
In the picture below Wendy Blevins tries to comfort her daughter Charlotte
after a Pit Bull attack. The picture was taken at Creighton Medical Center in
Omaha, Nebraska.

Chapter 3
My Dog Doesnt Bite
Retired veterinarian Jack Tillerson has written a wonderful eBook, available
at Amazon, My Dog Doesnt Bite: the Parents Guide To Dangerous Dogs. It is an
intelligent, even-handed, insightful look into dog ownership that everyone who
owns a dog, or is considering getting a dog should read. Dr. Tillerson named his
book My Dog Doesnt Bite because thats what every dog owner says, even the
ones whose dog has just bitten someone. Its a pretty safe bet that 98% of the dogs
that bite someone have never bitten anyone before, and 99% of the dogs that kill
someone have never killed before. So dog owners who think their dog wont harm
anyone are just nave; all dogs bite.

Canine Report could be considered samizdat because if present trends

continue it will soon be against the law to tell the truth about dogs. We live in a
world where there is a television program that glorifies Pit Bulls called Pit Bulls
and Parolees. This is the same breed of dog that is responsible for the majority of
canine murders every year. On the cable television channel Animal Planet, there is
a series, Dogs 101 where Pit Bulls have been described as good house pets, and
good with children. Again, this is the breed that kills more children than any
other breed of dog.
The website Pit Bull Rescue Central lists hundreds of animal shelters and
rescue organizations in America that are dedicated to saving Pit Bulls. This goes
on in spite of the fact that it is against the law to possess a Pit Bull in over 650
7

cities around the country. Almost every state has breed specific laws (BSL), and
Appellate courts in eleven states and the District of Columbia have upheld the
constitutionality of breed-specific Pit Bull laws.
These poor misguided Pit Bull lovers have a hard time explaining why law
enforcement officers and citizens have to shoot dozens of Pit Bulls every year to
prevent an attack or to stop an ongoing attack. A 2008 report listed 373 incidences
over several years where Pit Bulls had to be shot.
If Pit Bulls killed only one child a year, it would be reason enough to get rid
of them; unfortunately, they kill about a dozen children every year. You may not
hear about these victims because the media underreports dog attacks.
Below is a list of dogs that have killed people in the last twenty years in the
U.S. The number of people killed by each breed of dog can be found online;
however, the person killed by a Cocker Spaniel is just as dead as the person killed
by a Pit Bull.

Nine-year-old Kristen Dutton of Modoc, South Carolina was killed by a Japanese

Akita on January 22, 2011. Kristen was a fourth grader at Merriwether Elementary
School, and she loved animals. The Akita was the first and last pet that Kristen
ever had.

Chapter 4
Dog Owners Are a Minority
According to the Humane Society, only 39% of U.S. households include a
dog, while the American Veterinary Medical Association estimates 37.2 % of
households include a dog. If dog owners were the majority, it would make this
message that much more necessary and urgent; however, they are a minority.
Only a small percentage of this dog owning minority cause most of the
problems. When you see a person inflicting their dog on the public, there are
probably twenty other dog owners who do not bring their dog out into the public
sphere. Thirty years ago there was no dog problem because people were not so
rude, inconsiderate, and self-obsessed as to take their dogs out in public. The dog
owners who take their dogs everywhere with them know that millions of people are
allergic to dogs, and that millions of people have been bitten by dogs, and they
dont care.
Owning a small dog that you think wouldnt harm anyone; nonetheless,
creates a more accepting attitude toward dogs in general. Being high profile with
any dog exacerbates the growing dog problem.
Dogs in public remind knowledgeable people of the threat that dogs pose,
and it puts them on guard. Most people who are allergic to dogs, or have been
bitten by a dog, or who have stepped in dog crap know that dogs do not belong in
public. Dogs also attack people on their home turf, but we cant do anything about
that. People who choose to live with dogs take that chance. Hopefully, this report
will make some people think twice about including a dog in their life.

Pamela Rushing of Friendswood, Texas was attacked and killed by

her own dogs in her own backyard and died on March 16, 2007.
Police had to shoot and kill one of the dogs after it tried to attack
them.

10

You may know people who take their dog everywhere with them, people
who cant go to the corner store without their dog. Those people know that
millions of people are allergic to dogs; they know that millions of people have
been bitten by dogs, and they dont care. They are similar to the people who ride
illegally loud motorcycles in that they dont care that their rude behavior affects
other people; theyre self-obsessed. They are the kind of people who post a picture
of their dog as their Facebook profile picture.
People who take their dog out in public with them and people who ride loud
motorcycles are similar to people who spray paint graffiti; they are exhibitionists.
They are saying, Look at me.
We live in a time of dwindling social consciousness, and dog owners who
strut around in public with their animals are leading the way. In the past, dogs
stayed in the home or in the yard, they were not paraded around town like some
hairy appendage. Some people believe that a home is not complete without pets,
and that is fine as long as the pets are left in the home and not forced on the public.
These are the kind of people who sign their dogs name on greeting cards.
For some dog people, their dogs are possessions to be displayed like
expensive trophies. These dog owners are often materialistic exhibitionists who
want people to look at them and their possessions. They swan down the sidewalk
thinking, Hey everyone, look at me, look at my dog, arent we wonderful?
Some of our more paranoid friends and neighbors think of their dog as a
cheap burglar alarm; however, maintaining a dog costs more than a security
system, and a security system doesnt make your neighbors hate you the way a
barking dog does. How insecure and afraid do you have to be to own a guard dog?
What happened to you to cause you to hide behind a vicious dog? Are you really
that much of a wimp? You are more likely to be attacked by a dog than by an
intruder. You are more likely to be attacked by your dog than by an intruder.

11

Chapter 5
How to Kill Your Neighbors Dog
One dog lover when confronted about his barking dog said, Thats the way
they communicate. Im not going to tell her not to bark. People have chosen to
sell their homes and move away in order to get away from a barking dog. And
dont think that watching the movie, How to Kill Your Neighbors Dog (2000) will
offer any solutions. Its a great movie, but it doesnt really tell you how to kill your
neighbors dog.
If you have an issue with a barking dog, you may not want to complain to
the owner or animal control authorities because it isnt likely that either will do
anything about it. If the police show up, they will say that the dog has to be barking
when they arrive before they can do anything, and that the owner has to be home.
If you complain to the owner, he may just brush you off, or worse. If you decide on
another course of action, you dont want to be on record as having complained.
Christina Casey of Morano Valley, California complained to her
neighbor about his dogs, and then later she complained to animal
control officials, but to no avail. She was in the process of moving, in
part to get away from the dogs, when she was mauled to death by her
neighbors dogs in her backyard on November 2, 2010.
In December 2011, the local television stations in Denver were in a tizzy
because someone was poisoning dogs. No dog actually died, but that didnt stop
the local Dumb Friends League from offering a reward of $3,000 for information
about who was responsible. The Dumb Friends League is where you can adopt a
small pet, or relinquish a small pet, or have a pet cremated. It is not clear
whether the dumb friend is the dog, the owner, or both.
According to healthypet.com, the top 10 reasons for dog relinquishment are:
moving, landlord issues, cost, no time, inadequate facilities, too many pets, pet
illness, personal problems, biting, and no home for litter mates.
Denver television stations interviewed dog owners who mentioned meatballs
and D-Con. There is no way to know how many nuisance dogs are poisoned every
year, but home improvement stores sell an awful lot of rat poison.
12

Dogs have also been poisoned by consuming sugar-free gum that contained
xylitol, a chemical that is harmless to humans but can cause a deadly drop in blood
sugar in dogs. Gums that contain xylitol include; Trident (sugar-free), Mentos, and
Orbit. Between eight and ten pieces of gum can be fatal for a sixty-five pound dog,
and as few as two pieces may be fatal for a small dog. The effects are sudden and
death may occur within thirty minutes.
If dogs were not a problem, people would not be poisoning them.

13

Chapter 6
Dogs Eat People
On October 29, 2006, Kimberly Cunningham and David "Ted" McCurry,
19-years old, drove to the residence of Firas Beseisso near Willis, Texas to inquire
about the sale of a large, mature pit bull. The three were talking when the Pit Bull,
Dax, broke free from the owner and attacked McCurry and Cunningham.
Cunningham was attacked first, but she was able to get to the roof of her car for
safety as McCurry and Beseisso attempted to restrain the dog. While attempting to
subdue the Pit Bull, it attacked McCurry biting over 90 percent of his body. The
fatal bite was to his neck.
Much of the information contained in this report will be new to most readers
because the truth about the canine killers among us is purposefully kept out of the
media. Media is the storyteller, and the story they are telling is all dogs are
wonderful. Some dogs are wonderful, and the information in this report is not
meant to disparage working dogs or considerate dog owners who practice good
dog etiquette.
Good dog etiquette means that the dog owner can talk about his dog, show
us pictures of his dog, send us email invitations to his dogs birthday party, but we
should never have to hear his dog bark, step in his dogs poop, or actually see his
dog. His dog should stay home, in the house, or in the yard, not out in public. That
is good dog etiquette. That act of etiquette alone will save lives.
The information contained herein refers to pet dogs, companion dogs,
because these are the dogs that are killing us. About thirty people per year are
killed by dogs, and over 150 people have been killed by dogs in the past five years.
How many people have to be ripped apart by these animals before America wakes
up? Evidently, the mule trainer approach is necessary in order to break through the
media created fog of ignorance that beclouds the minds of most of the American
public when it comes to dogs. The American public has never shown itself to be as
weak-minded as it has concerning the media portrayal of dogs as Gods little
blessing. Nothing demonstrates the power of media more than Americas love

14

affair with an animal that attacks, mauls, and dismembers innocent, unsuspecting
people every day.
The public is behind the curve on dogs because the dog owning minority has
the media on its side, and they have big money international corporations feeding
the public lies about how wonderful dogs are.

On August 3, 2011 Michael Cook of Tucson, Arizona was attacked

by his own Pit Bull. Witness Fernando Lozano said the dog was,
literally eating him. Within the next two days Mr. Cook underwent
two surgeries and was administered sixty pints of blood. His family
made a plea to the public to donate blood because his injuries had depleted area
blood banks. Less than two weeks after the attack doctors amputated both of Mr.
Cooks arms. Michael Cook died twenty days after the attack on August 23, 2011.
What a horrific experience. Did you hear about it? Was it in the news where
you live?

On November 9, 2006, forty-seven year old Richard Adams of

Phenix City, Alabama was found half eaten at an auto sales and
repair shop where a responding Sheriffs deputy shot and killed the
dog. According to the Russell County Coroner, John Morgan, there
were signs that Adams was still alive while the dog was eating him.
You dont see many stories about people being eaten by dogs but it happens
every year in America.

15

Charles Hagerman, 44-years old, was killed by at least one of two

pet Pit Bulls in his Englewood home. The victim was discovered
when his wife, Charlotte Williams, and her son, Daryl Williams,
arrived home. When the two entered the apartment, one of the Pit
Bulls was still on top of Hagerman's body "gnawing at his neck." The Cook
County Medical Examiner's office said the victim was dead at the scene (August
16, 2012).
When a person is attacked and is being bitten by a dog, often, the dog is not
just biting the person it is eating the person. The victims of fatal dog attacks are
conscious while their canine attacker is eating them until they pass out from loss of
blood.

16

Chapter 7
Dogs Are Over-represented

When a dog attacks, and it happens hundreds of times a day, every day, it might be
on the local news once, but never on national news. However, if there is a house
fire and the family pet barks and wakes up the family saving their lives (assuming
the heat, flames or smoke detector didnt wake them), the family pet will be on the
local news, national news, and the cover of magazines. It will be profiled on
television as a hero.
Wherever one goes in America you will hear people say, Oh everyone in
(fill in the city) has a dog. Yet, according to the Humane Society only about 39%
of the households in America include a dog. This minority of people have the
media on their side, so it seems as if everyone has a dog. Also, we notice a person
with a dog more readily than we do a person without a dog. Dogs and dog owners
are over-represented in media. Dogs have become a marketing ploy, and it seems
as if every other television commercial must have the obligatory cute dog resulting
in even more people being led into the jaws of death.

People like five-year-old Makayla Woodard of Waxhaw, North

Carolina. The convicted felon, Michael Gordon, who owned the two
Pit Bulls that killed Makayla had been warned by police to keep his
dogs contained. Michael Gordon turned himself in to police after being charged
with involuntary manslaughter.

As the economy has gotten worse over the past few years, one would think
that more people would live together to help share expenses; however, the opposite
is true. In the 1960 census one-person households comprised 13% of all
households in America. By the year 2000, that number had increased to 25%, and
17

in 2010 27% of all households were one-person households. And according to a

study by the National Council on Pet Population, pet owning households increased
by 12% over the past ten years.
One of the worse things dogs do is provide companionship. Dogs are
enablers; they make it easier for people to live alone. When you see a person living
alone with a dog that means there is another person somewhere who is denied a
relationship because dog person chooses to live with and have a sort of pitiful
make believe relationship with a dog rather than with another person. A certain
chill has to descend over your heart for you to say, To hell with people all I need
is a dog.
It is not as if those dog people who live alone couldnt find another person to
have a real relationship with. Finding someone is easier than ever with online
dating sites, church singles groups, and an overcrowded society that practically
throws people together. Maybe the loners are spoiled, and its just easier for them
to have a dog companion than a human companion, maybe it is easier for them to
love a dog than to love a person. They can have everything their way, a dog wont
argue with them. Like puppy love, this is a shallow form of love. Loving a dog is
easy, but it is not really love until you have disagreed and argued with another
human being and then find that you still love each other. If you cant maintain a
relationship with a person, you might want to consider a stuffed animal, it will
understand you about as well as a dog will, and it will be a lot cheaper. Or perhaps
you would prefer a fish, after all fish dont bark.
Its easy to have a relationship with a dog. You can kick the crap out of a
dog, and it will come whimpering back and lick the boot that kicked it. A dog
wont argue with you the way a person will. Dogs are in it for the food, thats what
all that tail wagging is about, they dont care about you; they care about whoever
can open that container of dog food. Do you think your dog loves you? Leave
the door open.
The companion dog is the last living contact for the urban hermit, alone with
just his faithful companion, his dog. His dog, and television. His dog, and
television, and that voice in his head. Get a life!
We are here to nurture one another not dogs!
18

Chapter 8
Child Haters
Since dog owners are a minority, and since CDC studies reveal that 386,000
people are treated at emergency rooms, doctors offices, and walk-in clinics every
year after being bitten by a dog, and since millions of people are allergic to dogs,
there are probably just as many people who will appreciate this report as there are
people who will be put off by it.
People who would rather not be around dogs are usually hesitant to say so
because the media only portrays mans best friend, and anyone who says they
dont like dogs is a pariah; a Hitler. No wait! Hitler was a dog lover weve all seen
pictures of him with dogs, and the video of him petting his German Sheppard.
Hitler could be the dog lovers poster boy! Whenever you see a dog lover out in
public marching down the sidewalk with his dog think Hitler.

Hitlers last dog, Blondi a German Shepherd, was given to him

by Martin Borman. Eva Braun owned two Scottish Terriers.
Those Nazis were all dog lovers.

Since dogs kill and maim so many children every year, maybe dog lover is
just another way of saying child hater. For some people a dog is the only thing
they have power over, its their one chance to be the boss, to command. Seig Heil!
It is hard to generalize about dogs because, according to the Humane
Society, there are about 78 million owned dogs in the US, and according to
Ohmidog.com there are about 77.5 million owned dogs. That doesnt count the
thousands of dogs that run wild, alone or in packs.
There are 86 million owned cats, about 8 million more cats than dogs, but
cats dont bark, they dont leave crap all over the place, and they dont kill people.
19

Cat owners dont make a spectacle of themselves by taking their cats everywhere
with them. Cat owners do not go to city council meetings and demand more cat
parks, cat beaches, and bring your cat to work days like dog owners do.
Some dog owners like to say that their dog is their best friend, indeed, there
is an old saying about a dog being mans best friend. Really? Will this dog, your
best friend, visit you in the hospital? If you call your dog on the phone and tell him
that your car wont start will he come over with jumper cables and start your car?
Your best friend would. Would your best friend hump your leg? If your dog is your
best friend you need to get out of the house, and look for some real friends.
Jennifer Lowe of Knox County, Tennessee, fought back as two Pit
Bulls tore away her face, neck, shoulder and arms. Jennifer died
shortly after reaching the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Until her death, she did not lose consciousness. Before the attack,
animal control officers had visited the home five times, and both dogs
had been declared dangerous. The attack occurred on owner property so the
owner of the dogs, Charles Smallwood, was not charged.
When there is a downturn in the economy many dog lovers turn their pets
over to the Humane Society to be put down. Put down is a euphemism for
killed. The ASPCA reports that between four and five million dogs are
euthanized every year. According to the Oxford Lafayette Humane Society,
America spends over two billion dollars per year to impound, shelter, kill, and
dispose of homeless animals.
Between 4 and 5 million dogs per year are killed in animal shelters in the US
(animal shelters were at one time called dog pounds). How can this be? Where are
all those kind hearted, sensitive dog lovers? How can dog loving America tickle
those cute little puppies with one hand, and administer the shot that kills them with
the other? Dog lovers you got some splainin to do.
Estimates online indicate that about a million dogs are hit and killed by cars
every year. Dogs are being poisoned, run over, and euthanized by the millions
every year, and still, their numbers increase. There are an estimated 78 million
dogs in American and their numbers increase by about half a million a year. At this
rate, we will soon be knee deep in dog poop, and it wont be safe to go outside.
20

Rosalie Bivins of Ada, Oklahoma was checking her mail in front of her
residence when a pack of Pit Bulls attacked and killed her. It was April 26, 2008,
she was sixty-five years old.
Every animal welfare organization agrees that we are over-populated with
dogs, but that doesnt stop the dog lovers from breeding more dogs, owning
more dogs, and demanding more rights for dogs. We put dog lovers in quotes
that time because if they really loved dogs they wouldnt let them over-populate.
Doggers lead with their emotions, like children, if its cute they want it, but
then Ted Bundy was cute, and some people thought Jeffery Dahlmer was cute.
Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 people over a four year period. Ted Bundy killed 30
people in four years. In the four years, 2008 through 2011, dogs killed 119 people.
But dogs are so cute!

21

Chapter 9
Dangerous Animals
The September 2011 issue of Mens Journal magazine featured an article,
Animal Attack Counterintelligence that listed the number of yearly attacks by
different animals. According to the article, in 2010, two people were attacked by
cougars. The professional journalists at the Mens Journal didnt say if the people
were killed or not. The article did report on the number of people killed by
alligators, 12 since 2000, about one a year. Two people were killed by sharks in
2010 and three by bears. For some reason, Mens Journal failed to mention that
thirty-two people were killed by dogs in 2010. All of the wild animal attacks
combined didnt result in as many deaths as those resulting from dog attacks.
There are movies and television programs about sharks and other animals killing
people, but none about dogs killing people. It happens about thirty times a year,
why no movies?
In 2010 thirty-two people were killed by dogs. Of all the ways to die being
ripped apart by a dog while you try to scream and fight for your life must be one of
the worst. Dogs have 42 teeth, ten more than people. Imagine those 42 teeth
clamping down on your throat and shaking you violently while you try to scream.
Dog bite victims are often still alive while the dog or dogs eat them. It happens
about 30 times per year in America alone, but you never see it. It is hard to imagine
such horror because youve never seen it, and youve never seen it because the
media keeps the bad news about dogs out of the publics consciousness. The bad
dog stories are underreported. The thirty or so people who are killed by dogs every
year dont get a lot of air play. It is hard to squeeze in those kinds of stories
between the dog food commercials. People killed by dogs have been referred to as
the less dead.
It is willful ignorance when people downplay the number of people killed by
dogs every year. Confronted with death statistics as a result of dog attacks the
canine lovers will sometimes say, But look how many people are killed in auto
accidents every year. About 43,000, and hundreds of those accidents are caused
by unrestrained dogs in the car. A bill was introduced in California to fine people

22

who drive with animals in their lap; however, it didnt pass because the governor
didnt believe it was a priority.
And, the response, But look at how many people are killed in auto
accidents every year is a thought-terminating clich meant to end an argument,
not make a point. It also implies that it is okay for a small number of people to be
killed by dogs every year, since so many more people are killed in auto accidents.
Depending on how unhinged from reality a dog lover is, they will say it is okay if
ten people die as a result of dog attacks or twenty or fifty or a thousand. Some of
these same people change their attitudes real fast when someone they love is
mauled by a dog. Some of them dont.

On August 11, 2011, Darla Napora of Pacifica, California was mauled

to death by her Pit Bull. She was six months pregnant at the time.
Darla was an avid fan of Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit
Bulls (Bad Rap). Twenty-four hours after her death her husband, Greg
Napora, was quoted as saying: 1) He doesnt blame the dog. 2) Its
not the breeds fault. 3) (Pit Bulls) are the most loving animals I have ever had
in my life. 4) He plans to bury his spouse, Darla, with their pets cremated
remains in her casket.
Sixty-nine year old Linda Mittino of Affton, Missouri, had been mauled by
the family dog three months earlier. The injury required plastic surgery, but Linda
loved animals and wanted to keep the dog in the house. The second attack by the
same dog was fatal, Linda Mittino passed away on January 1, 2007.
Dogs are the most dangerous animals in America.

23

Chapter 10
Dog Trails
Americas parks are the envy of the world. Our city, county, state, and
national parks provide a constancy, a continuum that is lacking in other places. The
quiet solitude of nature is therapy for an increasing number of people, yet dog
lovers are hell bent on destroying our parks.
There is something endearingly childlike about an adult who wants to go for
a romp in the woods with his dog. Some of those rompers are trying to recapture
that feeling from when they were young, and their dog followed them everywhere.
When they looked back and saw that dog at their heels, they thought, in their
childs mind, that poochie loved them. It is hard for some people to understand
dogs dont love. Many people dont love, much less dogs. This may be the heart of
the issue; dog lovers anthropomorphize dogs. They project human emotions onto
dogs. You could train a monkey to follow you around and tickle your stomach, but
that doesnt mean he loves you.
What follows is an article from Practical Outdoors dated May 31, 2008:
Leave Your Dog at Home

So you think your dog is ready for a hike in the

wilderness. Think again. Despite what you think about
your dog, it does not belong in the woods unless you are
prepared to let it go join a pack of dogs. Your dog is an
animal. No matter how cute you dress it up, no matter
how well behaved it is, no matter how well you know it
(hopefully not in the biblical sense), it is still an animal.
Every year more than 14 million people are bitten. The
most common phrase heard after a dog bite is he (or
she) never did that before!
There is a reason your dog walks on all fours instead of
upright. There is a reason your dog runs from tree to tree
squirting its scent. There is a reason your dog has no
shame about defecating in public. The reason is YOUR
24

DOG IS AN ANIMAL! Anyone who thinks otherwise is

really abusing their pet. Dogs dont want to be human.
They want to be dogs. If you want a child either have one
or adopt one. But please dont torture your dog by trying
to turn it into a human for your pleasure. It is a dog. It
wants to be a dog. If you cant treat it like one, then
maybe you shouldnt own a dog. (Yes, I said own
because dogs are personal property whether you like it or
not.)
So if your dog is an animal then why shouldnt it be in
the woods with the other animals? For the opposite
reason that a bear should not be a house pet. Because
your dog is NOT A WILD ANIMAL AND THE BEAR
IS!
When humans go into the woods they are expected to
obey the rules for the benefit of the human community.
Dogs dont know those rules and even if they did they
wouldnt care about those rules BECAUSE THEY ARE
ANIMALS!
And please spare me the but my dog always listenmy
dog is better behaved than most humansmy dog would
never bite anyonemy dog would never leave my side if
told to stay Every day 11 postal service employees
are bitten by people who make similar claims about their
dogs. It is not the dogs fault. Dogs bite things. It is part
of their nature, part of being a dog. Owners who dont
control their dogs and who think their dogs poop ice
cream are to blame.
A telling case is the November 2007 Alabama-Auburn
football game during which a highly trained K-9 dog bit
one of the players. The player had just made a defensive
play in the end zone that carried him near the backside of
the end zone. There were several police officers lining
the end of the field with their highly trained K-9 dogs for
crowd control. As the player turned to return to the field,
one of the two dogs near him lunged out and bit his hand.
25

The other dog did as it was trained. It sat unresponsive

waiting for its trainers command. But the one highly
trained dog, which never did anything like that before
reacted on instinct rather than training and chomped on
what it saw as threat, a meal, a toy, or whatever. The
video on YouTube then shows the handler leading the
dog off the field as it wags its tail in delight. Ohhow
cute.
If your response is but everyone can attest that my dog
is obedientblah..blah..blah then you have not been
thinking about what you just read. The focus is not on
what your dog hasnt yet done. The focus is on what your
dog is likely to do BECAUSE IT IS A DOG! Having ten
people say wellhe never did that before is no
different than having one say it. Waitmaybe it is
different. It establishes that there are ten idiots instead of
just one.
So please be responsible and leave the pooch at home. If
you cant do that then stay home with it because neither
of you belongs in the woods with other humans.
(end)
Most hiking guidebooks advocate leaving your dog at home when you go
hiking; still, many dog owners think that they are somehow special and that this
suggestion doesnt apply to them.
Outdoor magazines, hiking and backpacking magazines, should be leading
the way in educating the public about the many problems with dogs in nature, the
trails that outdoor publications cherish are being compromised by dogs. Despite
this, none of these publications has taken a stand, maybe they are hoping for some
dog food advertising dollars.
On trails that dont allow horses, dirt bikes, or mountain bikes, you will not
see horses, dirt bikes, or mountain bikes, but on trails that do not allow dogs, you

26

will often see dogs. Dog owners have dogattude; they think that owning a dog
makes them special, above the rules.
Last year my wife and I hiked some of the trails on the way up to Taos Ski
Valley in Carson National Forest, New Mexico. There were more dogs than people
on the trails because some of the people had two or three dogs. None of the dogs
were leashed, the trails were narrow, and we had to scramble into the woods every
time some Baxter came bounding our way. Clear the trail here comes another one
of those dog people.
After a day of dodging dogs and their doo on mountain trails, I wrote
Kendall Clark head of the Carson National Forest ranger district in Taos and asked
if there were any dog free trails, or plans for any dog free trails. She didnt
respond. I sent a copy of her letter to her boss in Albuquerque, Corbin Newman.
He didnt respond. I sent copies of both letters to their boss, Tom Tidwell, in
Washington, DC. He didnt respond. I have also sent emails to the Bureau of Land
Management trying to find dog free trails, again without a response.
Maybe they are all dog lovers which means they are behind the learning
curve when it comes to dogs, or maybe it is willful ignorance; they know the
problem but refuse to say anything. It is politically incorrect to tell the truth about
dogs.
However, the San Bernadino National Forest has this to say about dogs.
Your canine companions traditionally have been
welcome. The few rules that apply to dogs are meant to
assure that you and other National Forest visitors have an
enjoyable outdoor recreation experience. Last year, one
of every eight dogs was involved in a situation, which
resulted in either a warning to the owner or a complaint
by a fellow camper. If the situation worsens, more rules
and stronger enforcement action will be necessary,
possibly resulting in a ban on pets in some sites. We hope
such action will not be necessary. If you're camping with
your pet and want to be sure that privilege is still
available, please practice the following, (these rules will
be enforced in developed recreation areas).
27

Leave vicious or unusually noisy dogs at home.

In Developed Sites, keep your dog on a leash no more
than 6 feet long.
Wilderness - Dogs must been on a leash no more than
6 feet long
At night keep your dogs and other pets inside an
enclosed vehicle or in a tent.
Developed campgrounds are for people, not animals.
Please do not bring more than two dogs or other pets
to any one campsite.
Do not bring dogs onto developed swimming beaches,
even if they are restrained. Guide dogs are an
exception.

The BLM Field Office issued this report after banning dogs in certain areas
near Price, Utah.
In the last few years, however, there have been a number
of incidents involving dogs, including an incident this
summer where a dog bit a person at the Sand Wash boat
ramp. Dogs have also been observed by boaters and river
rangers chasing bighorn sheep and other wildlife.
Rangers and other boaters have reported numerous
occasions where dog droppings were found in camps and
on trails. The BLM Price Field Office has also received
numerous complaints from boaters regarding unleashed
dogs, barking in camps and other incidents.
Dog free trails are quieter, calmer, and smell better with more wildlife
sightings and fewer unpleasant surprises. If you hike dog friendly trails, you are
not as likely to see any wildlife, and you better check your shoes before you get
back in the car.
One weekend not long ago my wife and I drove into the Cruces Wilderness
Area in northwest New Mexico. You are not allowed to drive in Wilderness Areas,
but at Cruces there is a dead end road that is designated as not being Wilderness
that takes you deep into the Cruces. On the way in we saw deer, antelope, elk, and
28

some other furry critter that ran across the road so fast that Im not sure what it
was, maybe a fox. When we reached the end of the road, as far as we could drive
into the wilderness area, we got out of the Jeep expecting the deep silence of the
primeval forest. A silence so deep you could feel it in your bones. Instead, the first
thing we heard was a barking dog. Someone decided to bring the family pet, so
they could ruin everyones wilderness experience. We didnt see any more wild
life that weekend. It takes a certain blind indifference to other people to do
something like that, but thats a dog owner for you.
The only thing pet dogs, as opposed to hunting dogs, do in nature is harass
wildlife. To a pet dog, all other animals are fair game to be chased and if possible,
killed. Yet most city, county, and state parks welcome dogs.
This BLM news release from 2012 for the Durango, Colorado area should be
shared with those hikers who take their dogs into nature.
Dogs are especially dangerous to deer and elk trying to
survive winter. Regardless of our intentions, wild animals
move to avoid people and pets. Even in heavy brush, elk
can detect a person or a dog from 1,000 feet away a
distance of more than three football fields. As a result,
they may move up to a mile to avoid perceived danger.
Areas protected from disturbance help deer and elk
survive the winter and bear healthy young in spring.
Even a deer or elk that appears to have escaped
unharmed may have less chance of surviving winter as a
direct result of expending stored energy to outrun dogs or
flee the perceived threat of humans.
In Colorados 42 state parks, only one is dog free. Dog owners are a
minority, but they have a majority of pet friendly parks and trails.
Wyoming, and other states, try to discourage dog owners from taking their
animals into nature.
Dogs can have a negative impact on wildlife. Animals
chased or scared off by dogs may deplete valuable energy
stores needed for survival, and subsequently perish at the
mercy of the harsh Wyoming environment.
29

City, county, and state parks departments that allow dogs on hiking trails are
not very clued in about the environment, or they would prohibit dogs from entering
public parks. Dogs do not pay the taxes that support public parks, and if dog
owners cannot enjoy public parks without their dog, they can go to one of the
hundreds of dog parks that have been set aside just for them.
The fastest growing category of parks in America is dog parks. In cities
across America, dog owners are demanding more and more dog parks. This would
not be a problem if dogs were not already allowed in most city, county, and state
parks. In national parks, a dog has to be on a leash at all times.
According to dogfriendly.com:
The general policy for national parks is that dogs must be
on a 6 foot or less leash at all times, are only allowed in
parking lots, in your car, or within 50 to 100 feet of the
road. Most of the parks allow dogs in campgrounds and
in developed areas, but there can be exceptions to these
rules. The majority of national parks do not allow dogs
on any hiking or walking trails, any backcountry trails,
any beaches or inside buildings. There are even a few
lesser known national parks that do not even allow you to
drive into the park if you have a pet in your car. This
does not sound like a fun vacation to most dogs and dog
owners.
I like the part where they say, This does not sound like a fun vacation to
most dogs Thats right, when most dogs hear that they are going to be pissed.
Our national parks are ahead of the curve when it comes to dogs. Park
administrators know that no good can come from allowing dogs in national parks.
Dogs should only be allowed in dog parks. Leash laws are not the solution.
Imagine a twelve-year-old girl walking an eighty pound Pit Bull on a six foot
leash. Dogs pull free from leashes and attack other dogs and people every day.
Then there is the oh-so-cute dog owner so puts the leash on then lets the dog run
loose trailing the leash behind him.

30

The first dog park was established in Berkeley, California (of course) in
1979, and now there are over 600 in the US that are city or county sanctioned and
paid for by tax payers. The majority of those tax payers do not own a dog, yet they
have to pay for someone elses dog park. Many dog parks do not allow children
because the parks managers know that dogs love to bite children. Only a minority
of dog owners frequent dog parks, but this minority of a minority is being
mollycoddled by local governments with special parks. For every dog park, there
should be two or three dog free parks, but there are very few parks where dogs are
not allowed.
At usadogparks.com every park that allows dogs is listed as a dog park; city,
county, state, and private parks are all referred to as dog parks. Even parks that
require dogs to be leashed are listed as dog parks. The dog lovers are claiming all
parks as dog parks unless dogs are specifically forbidden. The parks at
usadogparks.com are listed by state and there are hundreds of them.
State parks are sometimes closed because of dogs running wild.
WHIDBEY ISLAND Fort Ebey State Park, a 645-acre
state park on Whidbey Island, remained closed Wednesday
after two aggressive, unattended dogs attacked park
hikers, Washington state park officials reported. According
to officials, the unattended dogs were discovered in the park
on Dec. 11, but officials had trouble catching them. The park
remained closed Wednesday as the search for the dogs
continued. At this time, rangers and county animal control officers are working to
confirm the location of the dogs and place them under control, officials said in a
release. Until this occurs, the park will remain closed.
The Whidbey News Times reported that the dogs attacked two hikers on
Tuesday. An Oak Harbor resident and a friend were on a hike in the park when two
dogs, both without collars, ran up to them. The dogs repeatedly growled and
charged the pair, the News Times reported. The dogs bit one of the hikers, and the
other hiker was forced to run into a nearby bathroom.
31

When a park ranger spotted the dogs later on, he was forced to jump back into his
vehicle and retreat when the dogs charged him, the News Times reported. A park
ranger told the News Times that its not unheard of for people to abandon their pets
at the park.
Kasha Katuhe National Monument in New Mexico has issued the following
warning, Dogs are prohibited (other than service animals) due to a number of dog
attacks on other visitors. There are no kennels nearby, so please leave your dog at
home. Kasha Katuhe is so popular that it is sometimes impossible to find a place
to park.
The majority of households in America do not include a dog yet almost all
city, county, and state parks allow dogs.
Why is society pandering to the wishes of this minority?
1. Follow the money, pet products are a multi-billion dollar a year
industry. That money buys a pro-dog media that tells a gullible American public a
censored, one-sided version of the dog story.
2. Because puppies are cute; thus, children and childlike adults like them
(children also like dragons and unicorns).
3. Because the American Pet Products Association creates a rosy, one-sided
version of dog ownership, and encourages more people to own more dogs.
4. Because in the past dog ownership was not a problem, today many
uninformed people are not aware of how great a problem dogs have become. Most
people are behind the learning curve when it comes to dogs; hence, this report.
5. Some dog people are loud and demanding; you dont see cat owners
at city council meetings making demands for cat parks. You dont see cat owners
taking their cats into stores, restaurants, post offices, etc.
6. Dog militants want dogs to be allowed in places where dogs dont even want
32

to go. Dogs are dumb animals that are just as content, if they even have that
emotion, running around in the back yard as they are following some schmuck up a
mountain trail. The mountain vistas that hikers enjoy are lost on a dog, theyre
colorblind; at the scenic overlook theyll nap. There are no poets or artists among
dogs, environmentalism escapes them; they crap on Mother Nature. They are not
part of nature. Theyre dependant on people for their survival, thats why they act
the way they do, and thats what all that tail wagging is about; its an obsequious,
groveling act to get food from their owners because they dont know how to
operate a can opener.
At hikewithyourdog.com, dog friendly trails and beaches are listed for the
active traveler. Active traveler, cute.
At dogfriendly.com, the best state parks for dog owners are listed. This is also
a good source if you wish to avoid sharing your wilderness experience with a dog.
At petfriendlytravel.com, you can find listings for pet friendly parks,
restaurants, shopping malls, and hotels with listings by state and Canada. Again,
this is a good source for the majority of people who would rather not share their
every experience with an animal. AAA publishes a North American Pet Book that
lists AAA-rated hotels and resorts that accept pets.
There is ongoing dog fight between a small, vocal, minority who want their
nasty dangerous animals allowed everywhere, and the majority who see the bigger
picture and realize that dogs do not belong in public or in nature. The dog loving
minority includes dog owners who do not want to impose their pet on the public or
on nature. The majority includes decision makers who are caught between wanting
to provide equal access and keeping the public and wildlife safe from dogs.
Although people who choose not to own a dog are the majority, millions of
people are allergic to dogs, millions of people have been bitten by dogs, and dogs
transmit several zoonotic diseases, there are no web sites that list dog free parks,
trails, restaurants, malls, hotels or anything else.
How bad will it have to get before the BLM, the National Forests, city,
county, and state parks, the media, and the country in general, quit kowtowing to
this inconsiderate minority? How many people will be victimized? How many
33

animals chased and killed? All these rules, regulations, and enforcement, all this
barking and dog crap so that a small percentage of people can take their dog
everywhere they go? It doesnt make sense.

On Christmas Day 2007, Kelly Caldwill went for a walk near her
home in Yermo, California. She was attacked and killed by two Pit
Bulls that were running loose.

34

Chapter 11
Dogs Rights
A small percentage of dog owners are militant about making demands for
dogs rights. Their agenda calls for dogs to be allowed in all stores, restaurants,
hotels, beaches, parks, hiking trails, or any place where the dog owner goes. They
want to take their dog everywhere, including their place of employment. Their
modus operandi is to get a paw in the door and agree to anything then, once in,
they show up with their dog and act like they own the place. There is no end to
their demands. Like petulant children they demand more, more, more.
In modern day America, doggers think that because they are a minority they
deserve some kind of special minority status like handicapped people. They
demand special parks, special trails, and special consideration because they are so
special. They look for some kind of special dispensation because they own a mutt.
Stores, restaurants, post offices, etc. have to put up No Pets Allowed signs
to keep dog owners from barging in with their dogs. Some dog owners go around
town testing the waters as it were to see how many businesses they can go into
with their dog. Home improvement stores Lowes and Home Depot, have folded to
the demands of doggers and now allow dogs in their stores. Where will Lowes and
Home Depot draw the line? Surely, they wont discriminate against other pet
owners like the hundreds of people who own pet Pythons and other wild animals.
Dog people know that millions of people are allergic to dogs and millions
more have been bitten by dogs, and they still insist on taking their dogs everywhere
with them. Its hubris, effrontery, and poor taste.
Because the Americans with Disabilities Act, does not require certification
or registration of a service animal, we can expect an increase in the number of
people who take their dogs everywhere with them. Anyone can go online and for
about fifty dollars order a service dog kit that includes a doggie vest, a certificate, a
wallet card and more. Thats it, you dont have to have your dog examined; you
dont have to prove a disability, you dont even have to own a dog. People who
have a legitimate need for a service dog are most upset over this abuse.

35

Service dogs are supposed to aid a person with psychiatric or physical

disabilities in a major life activity. So if youre crazy you can take your dog
everywhere with you, and if you take your dog everywhere with you, some people
will think youre crazy, either way

36

Chapter 12
Pet Friendly Hotels, Apartments and Condominiums

Why do hotels allow guests to bring dogs into their room? Again, follow the
money. Hotels become pet friendly because they can add another charge to the
room for a dog, a Pet Fee; thus, the hospitality industry is encouraging people to
bring their dogs with them when they travel. According to the American Pet
Products Association, 20% of dog owners take their dogs on vacation with them.
The next time you check into a pet friendly hotel room look at the carpet in
your room then imagine how long its been since a dog did the butt scootin boogie
across it. Some hotels (Motel 6) are starting to install faux hard wood flooring
because it is easier to clean up the dog urine and dog feces. Look at the bed and
imagine how many dogs have slept in it. The majority of dog owners admit that
they sleep with their dog (I know, its disgusting, but they do).
If hotels set aside a few rooms for people with service animals, it wouldnt
be so bad; however, an informal survey of hotels reveals that dogs are allowed in
any room in many hotels. For example, the beautiful, historic La Fonda Hotel in
Santa Fe, New Mexico allows dogs in any of its rooms.
Some hotels in blind obedience to any passing fad, and because of greed,
went pet friendly for a while then saw how much it cost to replace all that urine
soaked carpet, and how many complaints they got about barking dogs, and have
gone back to being guest friendly instead of pet friendly. Other hotels are waiting
until a guest is mauled in the hall by someones pet and they get named as codefendants before they will see the light. The hospitality industry is behind the
curve like most of the public when it comes to the nasty, dangerous and sometimes
deadly consequences of being pet friendly. In pet friendly hotels, you are more
likely to be bitten by a flea than a bed bug. Hotels becoming pet friendly is the best
thing that ever happened to RV sales. The first hotel to advertise, Sorry no pets,
all of our rooms are hypoallergenically clean will enjoy a 100% occupancy rate.
Hey, hospitality industry! Wake up and smell the dog poop.
37

The same is true for apartments and condos; that pet fee motivates much
greed, and it is getting hard to find an apartment or condo that does not allow dogs.
Most cities have free Apartment Guides that list apartments that are available and
if you can find two or three apartment communities listed that do not allow dogs
youre lucky.

On the evening of April 22, 2011 Virgil Cantrell stopped by to visit

friends in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The Grants were not home so Virgil
waited on the porch with Ike, the family Pit Bull. Ike was tethered
but that didnt stop him from attacking Virgil. An eleven-year-old boy
who had been bitten by the same dog about a month earlier saw the attack and ran
for help. Arriving officers had to shoot and kill Ike to allow EMTs to reach the
victim. Mr. Cantrell died on the way to on the way to the hospital. The dog owners
were charged with felony offenses.
Pit defenders have a hard time explaining why every year police officers
have to shoot hundreds of Pit Bulls.

38

Chapter 13
Over-population
Most of societys problems are the result of overpopulation. For example,
there is nothing wrong with education; there are too many students. There is
nothing wrong with medical care, there are too many patients. There is nothing
wrong with traffic; there are too many cars. There are immensely talented artists,
musicians, actors, writers, etc. who will never become known for their work
because there are over 317 million people in America, and there is only room for a
finite number of creative individuals. The U.S. population is allowed to increase by
about a million people a year.
Dogs would not be the problem that they are if there were not over 78
million of them, and if their numbers were not increasing by about half a million a
year. All animal welfare groups admit we have a surplus of dogs thats why four to
five million dogs are euthanized every year. We are overpopulated with dogs; they
run wild in packs and kill innocent people.

On September 13, 2007 Cheryl Harper was walking down a gravel

road near her home in Livingston, Michigan when she was attacked
and killed by a pack of five American Bulldog-mixes. On the same
day the pack killed Edward Geirlach on his front porch. Both attacks
were extremely violent and happened in such a short span of time
that authorities could not determine which victim had been attacked first.
Most of the people who work for or support PETA (People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals) and HSUS (the Humane Society of the United States) dont
own pets because they believe that the only connection between pets and people is
that of a slave/master relationship. They dont think people should be allowed to
own pets.
39

PETA and HSUS are animal rights groups while ASPCA (American Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is an animal welfare group. Animal
rights groups/supporters believe that animals have the right not to be eaten. Their
goal is to eventually eliminate animals as pets through sterilization and banning of
animals that cannot be sterilized.
If dog welfare groups like the ASPCA put some of their money and energy
into human welfare instead of dog welfare there might not be over 30,000 suicides
every year and over 643,000 homeless people in this country. There are dog parks
in every major city in America, but where are the homeless parks? Americans
spend over 19 billion dollars a year on pets while thousands of people sleep under
bridges.
The Humane Society of the United States spends big money for national
television ads that feature pitiful looking animals with the message that for just $19
a month you can help save these poor animals, and receive a magazine, a jacket,
and a tote bag. All for just $19 a month! These ads often feature a B-list celebrity
stroking a harmless looking dog.
There are no national television ads for the victims of dog attacks and their
families whose lives are changed forever because someone thought it would be fun
to own a dog. There is no national organization dedicated to helping the families
who are financially wiped out because someone thought a dog was cute.
Maybe thats what we need. Television ads that show the mangled bodies of
dead children with fast video cuts to a growling Pit Bull with blood dripping from
his fangs, and a deep-voiced compassionate commentator saying, Wont you
contribute just $19 a month to save a childs life.
A recent study by the Insurance Information Institute
(I.I.I.) shows dog bite claims cost nearly $390 million
annually. According to the study, dog bites account for
one-third of all homeowners insurance liability claims,
costing $387.2 million in 2008, up 8.70 percent from
2007. Since 2003, the average cost of these claims
($24,461 in 2008) has risen nearly 28 percent.
40

Additionally, the number of claims has increased 8.89

percent to 15,823 in 2008 from 14,531 in 2007.

Listed above are just a few of the over 2,000 animal welfare organizations in
the US. There are no organizations dedicated to the welfare of dog bite victims.
All of these organizations and many others have reams of information and
statistics about dogs. Dogsbite.org is the only organization that has information and
statistics about the victims of dog attacks. America has been conditioned by the
media to be more concerned for the welfare of dogs than for the welfare of people.
It is time for this anti-human, pro-dog trend to be reversed.
While doing research for this report, more than one dog owner offered that if
someone harmed his dog he would kill them. By them he meant the person who
harmed his dog. He would kill a person for harming his dog. This is what it has
come to to some people a dog is more worthy, more important, more valuable,
than a person.

Chapter 14
Time to Eat the Dog
Brenda and Robert Vale, architects, writers, environmentalists, and pioneer
researchers, published, The Autonomous House in 1975. It has since been
translated into five languages. They have designed several environmentally
friendly commercial buildings.
In 1991 they published, Green Architecture: Design for a Sustainable
Future.
In 2009 they published, Time to Eat the Dog? The Real
Guide to Sustainable Living, in which they detail the
enormous carbon paw print of keeping and feeding a dog.
Their studies prove that owning an average size dog is
more than double the environmental impact of driving a
4.6 four-wheel-drive Toyota Land Cruiser over 6,213
miles per year.

New Science Magazine had the Stockholm Environmental Institute in

Britain calculate the ecological footprint of owning a dog using their own data and
they came up with basically the same results.
People who care about the environment do not own dogs.
Dog is on the menu in China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Philippines,
Polynesia, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Vietnam. In America we eat cows, chickens,
pigs, sheep, deer, frogs, snails, seafood, and Cook books are among the best
selling books on the market, where are the dog recipes when we need them? Bar B
Q Pit, Sweet N Sour Rottie It would make more sense to take dogs that were
going to be put down and turn them into food of some kind than to just kill them.

42

Roy McSweeney was a seventy-four-year old disabled veteran

working in his front yard when two Pit Bulls jumped the fence and
attacked. When rescue personnel arrived, his right arm had been
severed from his body, his left arm was partially severed, and he was
suffering from severe facial injuries. Mr. McSweeney was rushed to
Shands Hospital in Gaineville, Florida where he succumbed to his
injuries five days later. The owner of the dogs, Deanna Blitch, was
charged with a misdemeanor.
In April, 2011 a Denver television station reported that a man shot a dog.
The on-the-scene reporter was visibly upset that a man had shot a dog, but she
failed to tell why, under what circumstances, the man shot the dog. Was the dog
attacking the man? Was the man running for his life when he shot the dog? Had the
dog broken into his house and bit him on the foot? Well never know. Reportage
like that is an example of a media controlled by the multi-billion dollar pet
products corporations.
Dogs in movies and television have always been heroes or victims, except
for Cujo, and he had an excuse, rabies. Old Yeller, now there was a dog, didnt try
to talk to people like that blow dried Lassie, lived out in the yard like an animal
should, probably stayed under the porch most of the time. Lassie, Rin Tin, and Roy
Rogers dog Champ led people to believe that dogs are a lot smarter than they
actually are.

It was August 31, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. Scott Warrens sister was
lying beside him on their mothers bed watching television when their
Pit Bull jumped up on the bed and killed six-year-old Scott.

43

Chapter 15
Waste
Americas cities are becoming infested with dogs. A thirty pound dog
probably defecates his weight every two or three months; dogs are crap producing
machines. Ask one of the people who picks up after a big dog; were talking
poundage. Dog owners should have to pay waste management companies a
surcharge for every dog they own. Landfills across America are filling up with dog
crap. Dogs environmental paw print is huge.
We are trying to make the world a cleaner, safer, better smelling place
because, unfortunately, many dog owners seem to have a Miss Divine attitude
toward dog poop.
No one can say that many dog owners are not inconsiderate people;
otherwise, there wouldnt be dog crap all over the place. Doggers talk about dog
crap as if it were inevitable, Everyone does it. Yes, but everyone doesnt do it on
the sidewalk. People cant smoke in public, but dogs can take a dump in public?
Its disgusting!
In a recent study by researchers from the University of Colorado that was
published in the journal Applied Environmental Microbiology it was revealed that
there is an unexpectedly high concentration of bacteria in the atmosphere that
comes from dog poop. Yes, the very air we breathe is now contaminated with
bacteria that comes from dog excrement. Thank you dog lovers.

When Jason Winters and Christopher Fura adopted a Rottweiler they

knew the dog had a history of attacking children. Kylie Cox was just
four months old when her mother entered the Winters home, put the
car seat down with Kylie in it, and stepped away to warm a bottle. It
was September 12, 2007 in Warren, Michigan. The Rottweiler
attacked and killed the infant while she was strapped in the car seat. Both men
were charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
Saying that most dogs dont bite wont bring back the dead children.
44

Chapter 16
Dog Lovers
Some dog lovers refer to dogs as fur people and to a dog as a fur person.
There are tee shirts that proclaim Dogs are people too, and God spelled
backwards is Dog. There is an HBO Documentary titled, One Nation Under
Dog. You would think Christians would be in an uproar over blasphemy like that.
They call themselves dog lovers, and unfortunately, the Internet has
videos that show just how perverted some of these dog lovers are. In the 2012
movie, Whats Your Number?, the Anna Farris character mentions a man who lives
in her building, and her costar replies, No thats the guy who tried to marry his
dog. Later in the movie the Anna Farris character yells down the stairwell of her
building to the aforementioned man, Stop f#&**** your dog. What some people
are doing with their dogs is becoming common knowledge, and this is being joked
about in the media. Think about that the next time you see one of those people who
cant bear to be separated from their dog.
On March 9, 2012, televisions 20/20 aired Pet Crazy a program that showed
how crazy some pet owners really are. During the course of the show, people were
shown in bed with big dogs, kissing dogs on the mouth, dancing with dogs, and
telling their dogs how much they love them. The programs many sponsors included
Pet Armour, Petsmart, and KY Lubricant.
One segment of the program revealed that some dog owners are getting
tattoos for their dogs and pierced ears, braces for their teeth, liposuction, face lifts,
nose jobs, tummy tucks, and Botox.
Intelligent, well-adjusted people do not look for love in the animal
kingdom.
A February 2011 report from the Centers for Disease Control warned that
sleeping with, kissing or licking a dog can result in life threatening infections such
as plague, internal parasites, and other serious diseases. According to a report
written by the California state public health veterinarian, 56% of dog owners let
their dog sleep with them. Dr. Jack Tillerson offers an in depth look at zoonotic
diseases in his book, My Dog Doesnt Bite.
45

Go to www.breitbart.com to see Sarah Silverman Campaigns for Obama by

Humping a Dog a video of comedienne Sarah Silverman holding a dog between
her legs as she lies on her back in her underwear.
In December 2012 a young Lake Havasu City, Arizona woman was charged
with two counts of crimes against nature after she admitted she had been having
sex with her dogs for over 9 years.
A recent Iams Pet Food television commercial titled, Rocky ends with a
scene of a female lying on her back with her legs spread with her huge dog, Rocky,
lying between her legs licking her face. The voice-over says in part, A love like
this never fades. This commercial can be seen on YouTube.
Scenes like these border on bestiality. A more complete list of bestiality
crimes, Internet videos, and references would be too disgusting to include here.
However, this is a growing trend, and one of the reasons some people wont go
anywhere without their dog, the love of their life.
Every night in America children go to bed hungry while these dog lovers
spend millions on their pets. They should take a clue from actor Jeff Bridges,
spokesperson for No Kid Hungry an organization dedicated to feeding Americas
hungry children. Unfortunately, dog lovers would rather spend money on a dog
than on a hungry child.
In the past few decades, there has been a decline in morality and an increase
in sociopathic behavior. As societys internal compass spun out of control many
people didnt know what to think, so they started to believe whatever the media
told them. There are good dog stories in media every day, but hardly ever a bad
dog story. There are over 60 pro-dog movies, but no anti-dog movies. There are
many pro-dog celebrities, but no anti-dog celebrities.
On March 12, 2012 the beautiful young actress Kaley Cuoco star of
televisions The Big Bang was a guest on the television program The Talk. During
the show Kaley showed a picture of one of her beloved Pit Bulls. Someone please
send her a copy of this report. If she is attacked by one of those Pits half the men in
America will weep openly.

46

Brainwashed may be too strong a word, instead, lets say the public has been
conditioned to believe that all dogs go to heaven, and dogs are mans best
friend. More than once during the making of this book we heard people say, Dog
owners are more loving, nicer people than people who dont own dogs. What an
insult to the majority of the population. Dog owners may be more nave, less
informed, not as concerned with other people, and more egotistical, but they are
not somehow better because they own a dangerous, nasty animal.
We have all seen him, like a Ralph Stedman caricature, a fifty-something
year old fat man wearing shorts and a pastel golf shirt with two toy dogs on leashes
circling around him like angry neutrons circling an atom taking up the whole
sidewalk, wrapping and unwrapping leashes around his legs, yipping and yapping
and clearing a circle around him as he trundles forth licking an ice cream cone
oblivious to everything around him. Clear the sidewalk here comes one of those
dog lovers.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta,
Georgia, nearly 2% of the U.S. population is bitten by a dog each year. This
translates to nearly 5 million dog bite victims per year, most of them are children.
In a 10-year period, the number of dogs rose by 2% while the number of bites
increased by 33%. Over 2,000 dog bite victims arrive at hospital emergency rooms,
walk-in clinics, and doctors offices every day. Dog bite losses exceed $1 billion
per year, with $345 million paid by homeowner insurance companies. There are
over 30,000 cosmetic procedures performed every year in America to repair the
damage done by dogs.
There are attorneys in almost every state who advertize that they specialize
in representing dog bite victims. We sent 20 of these attorneys an email telling
them that we were compiling a report about dogs and asking them to give our
contact info to any dog bite victims they may know of. Not one person replied.
Attorneys who represent dog bite victims make money off people who are bitten
by dogs thus Attorneys wont help, and the media glorifies dogs, but we have to
make this effort as a public service, because if one person is saved it will be worth
it.

47

Chapter 17
Dog Stories
During the writing of this book we saw a bumper sticker that read, Dogs
love stupid people, and it takes a really stupid person to believe some of the dog
stories that circulate on the Internet.
The following email can be seen on the Internet accompanied by a picture of
a huge dog.
The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord.. . He's huge -part
Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His
handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he
knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to
duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop,
but he did.
Brutus was the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor last
year from his tour in Iraq. His handler and four other soldiers were
taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by
sign language, and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but
come back and find me'.
The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly
tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at
another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the
guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in
and untied his handler, and they all escaped.
He's the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you're ok, he's a
big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. He enjoys the company of
cats
K-9 Congressional Medal of Honor Winner. Thought you'd find this
interesting. Talk about animal intelligence and bonding with humans!
There is not a word of truth in it. There have been two Medals of Honor
awarded in connection with the war in Iraq; neither was awarded to a dog. No
48

animal has ever received a Medal of Honor. What an insult to the men who have
received a Medal of Honor.
Another dog lie that circulates on the Internet begins with: This is a true
story which happened on 9/11/01. It then tells how Daisy, a guide dog, was in the
World Trade Center when it was attacked and that she went back in the building
time and again leading 967 people out of the building. The story ends with The
next day Mayor Giuliani gave Daisy the Canine Medal of Honor of New York.
Daisy is the first civilian canine to win such an honor. One version of the story
ends with, Copied from the New York Times 9/19/01.
Every word of the above quote is a lie passed around by dog lovers.
There was a television series titled, Bad Dog, but it was about cute dogs.
There are over twenty books with the words Bad Dog in the title, and they are all
about good dogs. There are over twenty YouTube videos with Bad Dog in the
title, and these are actually videos of cute dogs.
Are you starting to see how the dog fanatics work? They purposefully
obfuscate the truth about dogs. They know that dogs kill and maim people every
year, and they dont care. In their simple-minded way, they think it is virtuous to
love dogs. These dog fanatics are like the pro-dog media and APPA in their efforts
to hide the truth about dogs.
Although about thirty people are killed by dogs every year, it is hard to find
video of a dog attacking anyone because anyone witnessing a dog attack is too
busy trying to save the life of the person being attacked to think about video. A dog
attack is a horrible thing to see. But it is happening in a city near you today,
tomorrow, or next week, someone is losing a friend, parent, child to a dog.

49

Bakersfield, CA Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

In a rare photo captured by Damon Hill via iPhone, 35-year old Steven
Herrera is shown being attacked by three pit bulls. Neighbors gathered outside the
fence but were afraid to enter without a weapon. His son was outside the yard
crying and throwing up.

50

Chapter 18
Solutions
There are several dog etiquette web sites, but these obviously arent
working. Leash laws and breed specific legislation help, but the dog problem gets
worse every year with more filth, and more people crippled and killed while dog
owners keep yammering away about how responsible they are. Responsible?
Really? Sorry, dog owners, but you are on the wrong side of the numbers. Cat
owners are not responsible for the deaths of thirty people a year; dog owners are.
People who dont own dogs are not responsible for sending thousands of people a
year to the emergency room; dog owners are. Dog owners have had long enough
its time for them to answer for their sins against society.
The dog in the room, like the elephant in the room, is the great unnamed
menace living among us killing, maiming, and destroying the lives of innocent
people. Unnamed until now, that is.
Every state has animal cruelty ordinances that outline fines or prison for
people who harm animals. If you bite a dog, you will go to jail, but if a dog bites
you, nothing much will be done. There needs to be more stringent legal
consequences for people whose dog harms someone. When that is the case, there
will be a lot fewer people being bitten by dogs. Every time a dog bites someone,
the dog should be put down, and the owner should be put behind bars.
The criminal courts attitude is that if the dog owner didnt know that his dog
was dangerous then its not his fault when his dog bites or kills someone. Okay,
Your Honor how many people have to die before you realize that dogs are
descended from wolves, and they attack and maul people every day? Wake up and
smell the blood, dumbass.

51

Lowell Bowden, 70-years old, was out for an afternoon walk on

November 27 when at least four loose pit bulls attacked him inflicting
critical, life-threatening injuries. On December 4, Bowden succumbed
to these injuries, which his family described as, "maimed beyond
recognition, with no facial features remaining and other horrific
disfigurement." Following his death, the family began urging state and local
lawmakers to regulate pit bulls as well as to impose felony punishment on dog
owners if their dog seriously injures or kills a human being while improperly
restrained. In a statement issued to the media, the Bowden family wrote: "No more
one free bite, one free mauling and no more one free homicide!" Four people were
initially charged with misdemeanor offenses in connection to the attack: Justin Ray
Blankenship, 18, his mother Kimberly Blankenship, 51, Mose Christian, 19, and
Anna Hughes, 32. Involuntary manslaughter charges (1 per person) were added
following Bowden's death.

America needs to undergo a sea change in its attitude toward dogs instead of
passively watching as the number of killed and injured people increases every year.
The Associated Press
Published: Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 - 7:25 am
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The owner of a 12-year-old Golden
Retriever who was shot to death by St. Petersburg police in 2011 is
suing the city.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/OW3zoN) reports the lawsuit
outlines an argument for why pets should be viewed under the law
less like property and more like people. The suit was filed by Roy
Glass, who is a lawyer and the dog's owner.
Boomer was shot by an officer after a report of his snapping at a
neighborhood woman walking her dog. Police said Boomer charged
at two officers with teeth bared and growling.
52

Under Florida law, pets are considered property. Though there is

little precedent in Florida, a Texas court ruled last year that dog
owners should be awarded damages based on sentimental value of
a dog.
Notice that in the above article the dog is referred to in the first
sentence as who not that.
Each state needs to enact legislation that enforces spaying and neutering of
Pit Bulls and Rottweilers until they become extinct. If the sociopaths among us
turn to Dobermans and German Shepherds and they begin to kill and maim at the
same rates that Pits and Rotties currently do then they can be added to the list of
dangerous dogs that need to be phased out.
We dont really need animals living among us that sometimes kill us.
Since so many people imply that nothing can be done because it is the owner
that makes the dog mean, or the owner is negligent about keeping the dog under
control, then the owner needs to face serious penalty. When a dog kills someone,
the dog owner should be charged with manslaughter and locked him up for ten to
twenty years. If a dog injures someone, then charge the owner with assault, send
him away for five to ten years, and make him pay the medical expenses of the
injured party. Just as some dogs should not be allowed, some people should not be
allowed to own a dog.
Eight states require dogs to be kenneled or tethered when in a vehicle. Every
state needs to enact similar legislation that keeps dogs under control while riding in
a car.
If the owners of the 78 million dogs in America were required to buy a
hundred dollar dog tag for each dog every year, exempting service and police dogs,
that would add seven billion five hundred million dollars to our nations coffers.
That sounds fair. According to the ASPCA, doggers spend between $700 and $850
a year per dog that they own. If they can afford that they can afford a hundred
dollar dog tag every year.
Every dog in public should be leashed and muzzled. The dog lovers who
object to this are the people who dont care how many innocent people are savaged
53

by dogs. They put dogs above people so their views and opinions dont matter. The
people who put the welfare of dogs above the welfare of people should no longer
be taken seriously.
According to a Wikipedia article about dog parks: December
2011: Dog parks are the fastest-growing segment of city parks.
There were 569 off-leash dog parks in the 100 largest U.S.
cities in 2010, a 34 percent jump in 5 years, while overall
parks increased only 3 percent. Portland, Oregon has the
highest per capita with 5.7 dog parks for every 100,000
residents. "It's a playground for people without kids.
Since there are over 500 dog parks in America, and these numbers increase
yearly, dogs should not be allowed in any other parks. Dog owners who object to
this want special dog parks just for them, and they want access to all other parks.
They want to have their cake and eat it too.
Every day in America police answer calls and break up fights between
neighbors who are fighting because of a dog. People come to blows because of
barking dogs and aggressive dogs. Animal Control officers go out and pick up
dangerous and nuisance dogs every day. Animal Control officers should be better
protected, better paid, and more aggressive when it comes to making our
neighborhoods safe and friendly. Neighborhood Crime Watch volunteers should be
tasked with reporting barking dogs and other problem dogs to Animal Control
officers.
City and state leaders who are not pro-active on these issues are what?
Waiting for the body count to go up? Waiting until it gets personal and they or
someone they care about is attacked by a dog? They are dragging their feet in the
blood of innocent people, their neighbors and constituents.
The solution to this nationwide problem, this slaughter of innocent people,
this plague upon the population is so simple, its just three little words, No pets
allowed. How hard is that? A child can understand it.
At Amazon.com there are No Dogs bumper stickers, and signs that feature
a black profile of a dog with a diagonal line through it.
54

Oh, but dog owners have rights too? No, they forfeited their rights when
their pets started killing an average of 30 people a year.
This may be one of those situations that has to get worse before it will get
better. More children will have to be rushed to emergency rooms, more people will
have to die, and more families will have to be devastated before the majority of the
population will say No pets allowed.

Conclusion
If you want to help save lives and make America a better, place please copy
and distribute this report. A Google Alert using the words, Dog attack will
inform the most reluctant dog lover about the seriousness of this worldwide
problem. There are many more reports of dog attacks in other countries than in
America because the media in America covers up these stories.
We purposefully made this report brief hoping more people would read,
copy, and distribute it. We could have listed thousands of attacks and links, but we
tried to keep it manageable. The authors of this report, their families and loved
ones, have not been the victims of dog attacks. It did not take a personal, horrible
dog attack for us to realize that The life of every pet dog in America is not
worth the life of one child.
