After finished reading "The Fifth Discipline..." explain and apply the following questions and model.

1. What are the main themes of the Fifth Discipline? What are these five disciplines? How you
describe and explain these disciplines.
Answer: The main themes of the Fifth Discipline was A successful business is one of the effective
development of the ability of members to learn at all levels of the organization. As a learning
organization, its members need to be open to new ideas, the company realized that to communicate
effectively with others, to be shared by all the members and will be able to work together to achieve
that vision.
The five disciplines are Shared Vision, Mental Models, Personal Mastery, Team Learning and Systems
Thinking.
Personal mastery clarifying personal vision, focusing energy, holding creative tension and seeing
reality.
Mental models unearthing internal pictures (how we see things) and understanding how they shape
actions, balancing advocacy with inquiry.
Shared vision encouraging personal vision, moving from this to shared vision, spreading this vision and
anchoring vision within a set of governing ideas.
Team learning the potential wisdom of teams, dialogue and discussion.
Systems thinking the reason for the title of the book, systems thinking integrates the four learning
disciplines from seeing the parts to seeing the whole.

2. How these disciplines relate to each other and why?

3. Why these disciplines are important in establishing a learning organization?
Answer: To compete in this information-saturated environment we are currently living in, it is necessary
to remain dynamic, competitive, and to continue to look for ways to improve organizations. Change is
the only constant we should expect in the workplace, and therefore, we must rid ourselves of
traditional, hierarchal organizational structures that are often change-averse, or undergo change only as
a reaction to external events. Learning organizations embrace change and constantly create reference
points to precipitate an ever-evolving structure that has a vision of the future built-in.
The very first thing needed to create a learning organization is effective leadership, which is not based
on a traditional hierarchy, but rather, is a mix of different people from all levels of the system, who lead
in different ways. Secondly, there must be a realization that we all have inherent power to find solutions
to the problems we are faced with, and that we can and will envision a future and forge ahead to create
it. The main learning disabilities are I am my position, the enemy is out there, the Illusion of Taking
Charge, The Fixation on Events, The Parable of the Boiling frog, The Delusion of Learning from
Experience, and The Myth of the Management Team.

There are 28 cases at the end of your Strategic Management book. Pick up one of these cases and
explain what that case is all about.
Then apply the 5 disciplines of the Peter Senge to this case. Evaluate and discover if that organization
is a learning organization or not. If yes why and if not why? Then propose how you can transform this
organization to a learning organization.

For assignment 3 I got the feedback as No HBR case study and application of porter's principles to that
case study. I did the analysis on Best Buy Co., Inc.: Sustainable Customer Centricity Model? case
th
which is in Strategic Management An Integrated Approach 10 edition by Charles W. L. Hill and Gareth
R. Jones Text book. So I dont know what the case studies you are referring to are and I am not able to
do this assignment.
