Duringdaytime,thesolarpanelgenerates12voltDCwhichmakestherelayactiveandtheNO(Normally
Open)contactmakesconnectionwiththecommoncontact.Thiscompletesthecurrentpathtothebattery.Two
1WattpowerLEDsareconnectedtotheNC(NormallyConnected)contactsoftherelay.Whentherelay
energize,theNCcontactbreaksandLEDsdonotgetpower.ResistorR2(18Ohms1Watt)dropstheLED
currentto330mA.TheLEDsarerated350mAat3.6volts.With3voltsand250mAcurrent,theseLEDscan
giveadequatebrightness.
1WattPowerLED

Intheevening,currentfromthesolarpanelstopsandrelaydeenergize.Atthesametime,theNCcontactof
therelaygetspowerfromthebatterythroughthecommoncontactandLEDsturnon.Theoretically,thebattery
canpower12hourswith350mAcurrent,butthebatteryvoltageandcurrentreducesdrastically.Soitisbetter
toturnoffthelampafter5or6hoursusingtheswitchS1.
Useasmall6volt100OhmsPCBrelaytomakethelampunitcompact.TheSolarLampcircuitincludingthe
relaycanbeenclosedinasmallbox.IfareflectorisfixedbehindtheWhiteLEDs,intensityoflightcanbe
increased.Usejackandsockettoconnectthesolarpanelwiththecircuit.

timesitisnotpossibletoswitchofftheunit.Alsowhatwattageofsolarpanelistobeused,andbywhat

protectioncircuitsgivenintheposts.Solarpanelsareavailablefrom1wattonwards.A5wattis
sufficient.Thechargingcurrentdependsontheillumination.Itmayvaryfrom50mAto300mA.
