along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. The
composer paints a tonal picture for your ears and imagination which
makes you think like youre on the wheel driving along the Pacific
Coastline of California seeing these different sceneries. The piece

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (Ennio Morricone)

These three pieces are arrangements of music by Ennio Morricone for
the Italian movie by Giuseppe Tornatore of the same title. The three

Pieces for two Guitars (Toru Takemitsu)

Like the pieces of Morricone, these two short works were intended as
music for movie. Takemitsu is a real fan of the movies. When he
would visit other countries the first thing he will look for is a theatre.
According to him one way of learning countrys culture is through
movies.
The first piece A Boy named Hiroshima is a story set some decades
after the bombing of Hiroshima of a boy who lost his Mother during
the catastrophe. After some years his love for his departed mother
was replaced with the love a girl whom he met.
The second piece is based on the music originally composed for the
movie of the same title. It has a simple and flowing melody which is
almost like a European folksong. The theme is variated throughout the
whole piece and restated again in the end. The film is a 1961
Japanese movie which comments on the Spirit of Totalitarianism in
Japan.

Incidental Music (Leo Brouwer)

Cuban Landscape with Rain (Leo Brouwer)

Leo Brouwer is one of the moving forces that has changed guitar
music repertoire. His music comprised of three phases which
comprises of various styles ranging from hard core avante-garde to
simple romantic music. Written in a minimalist style it tries to paint a
picture of the Cuban landscape. The first few notes give you an
impression of raindrops gradually getting stronger and stronger until it
reaches a climactic point where he suddenly draws you into a new
canvas of a different motif. There are four main parts which contrasts
and compliments each other. The third part which is in an aleatoric
style gives rhythmic freedom for the performers to execute the notes
thus producing an effect of storm clouds slowly building and a burst of
hail storm comes. The storm slowly recedes and the rain comes and
slowly the music fades away.

This suite for two guitars comprises of four parts: Preludio, Interludio,
Danza and Finale. Brouwers Afro-Cuban style is very much inherent
in this piece. The Preludio gives us the main theme which is used
almost throughout the suite. The Interlude is a song which gives a
kind of variation to the main theme. It is followed by a dance in 5/8
6/8 time and ended with the violent Finale where you are given a
flashback of the main theme in the end.

Dredlocked (Andrew York)

Dredlocked is part of a suite written by Andrew York for the Nibori
Guitar Ensemble titled Harumi. Dredlocked loosely translated as in a
reggae style (Jamaican reggae musicians wearing dredlocked hairs).
Its light character and groovy funky rhythm makes you want to relax
and get a little loose.
