Chapter II

METHODOLOGY

A. Materials

The following materials were used in the study copper clad, masking tape, ml ferric chloride,
tap water, Micro controller, GSM Module, 6 volts motor battery, PIR (motion sensor), size larger
antenna, computer, sensors, specs switches, specs resistors, soldering iron, soldering pull, drill
bit, cutter, ruler, screw driver, sand paper, multitester, #24 electronic wires, microwave sensors
and plastic casing.

B. Preparation and Construction of the Device

We had examined and reintegrated new sensors to the original circuit of the original device from
the old project. The integrated new sensors are the PIR and the microwave sensor. Before the
integration of the new sensors was conducted, we tested whether the said device will be able to
detect the presence of a moving object. The results were as expected for the original device was
able to send the messages we have received before, indicating it was still functional. Phase One
the new sensors were tested if it could detect the presence of moving objects. After that we
connected the new motion sensors properly to the original alarm circuit completing the external
integration phase. Phase Two to complete the whole system we reprogrammed the original alarm
circuit via microcontroller in a way that it will be able to make decisions whenever the newly
integrated motion sensors are able to detect the presence of moving objects within their range
completing the internal integration phase. Phase Three to be able for our newly integrated system
to be self reliant in energy, we integrated the new power supply which is the battery construct

into our newly integrated system. This regulator circuit will convert the 12 volts output of the
battery into the required voltage of the newly integrated system. We connected this regulator
circuit to the battery and the output of this circuit will be connected to the newly integrated
system which consist now of the original alarm circuit and the newly integrated sensors which
are the motion sensors completing the self supply integration phase. Considering that the circuit
can now be used using a battery, the original power supply of the original project was used to
charge the newly integrated battery. The battery was connected to the regulatory circuit which
will now power the entire circuit.

C. Testing the Device Using Different Loads

After assembling the device, we connected sensors and switches, to test if the device
works and is capable in providing information of the occurrence of a presence of a burglar in an
unoccupied place to the owner the police and the local officials.

The Circuit as shown below consist of the power supply the sensors, the microcontroller
and the GSM module. The power supply provided the energy needed by the circuit to operate
properly. It converted the 220 AC input voltage coming from the standard household AC outlet
into the 5V DC voltage needed by the sensors, GSM module and microcontroller to operate
properly.
To test the entire circuit power on the device using the charged battery, placed all the sensors
strategically inside the house such as the original switches used for the doors located at the back

door and the front door for the new motion sensors which will be used to determine the presence
of a moving object going inside a house. The switches which are formerly used by the original
circuit will act the same function as before only now acting as a first line of defense. However,
the circuits were upgraded by the inclusion of the motion sensors whenever the switches are
activated. They send electrical signals just like before to the microcontroller which decides and
sends a signal to the GSM module which will send the necessary information through text to the
police or to the owner or to whoever is identified by the user. The moving object is detected
inside the house by the motion sensors. The said motion sensors will send electrical signals to the
microcontroller. Thus the microcontroller will make decision to determine the location of the
moving object and activates the gsm module to send the appropriate information to the police the
owner or whichever is identified by the user. The researchers can simulate a police number
because any number can be inputted to the device.
