VINEGAR BOY
One of our 'firsts' for the past year was
starting a high school choir. The more we sang
together the more we sounded like a choir. We
were so proud of the kids when we finally
produced our first drama/musical 'Vinegar
Boy'. We really worked hard, grew close, and
had a lot of fun. The finished product was really
good (speaking from a biased point of view!).
The invitations came to put on the musical at

Mashoko Mission, Chiredzi and Chinhoyi.

These trips were a highlight for the kids
because they don't get to travel much. Our
highlights were finding the van key, which one
of the kids lost, after an hour and one half of

intense searching and making it to the nearest

town on tread-shedding tires. We wish you
could have heard us.

Dear Friends,

We hope everything is going well with you as you are experiencing new
summer weather. While you are aware now of God's creation and beauty, we
are made aware of His strength and power. There is a thunder storm outside
which will be one of the last until our rainy season begins again in November.
Psalm 19:1 says, "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And ttieir
expanse is declaring the work of His Hands."
This is a special prayer request letter to you. The govemment of
Zimbabwe has been turning down almost all work pemnits of missionaries
(from ail denominations) during the last few months. We don't know the
reasons but the decisions have come from the higher authorities. Mypermit
was handed in for an extension two weeks ago and we are waiting for a reply.
Please pray that if it is God's will that 1continue to wori< here that it will be
renewed. If they refuse 1can appeal one time but cannot leave the country
(which means I may not be able to come home for Robin's wedding this
summer).

We beg you to pray with us for my work permit as well as others. Also pray
for a change in the new policies we see coming in the govemment of
Zimbabwe. James 5:16 says, "The effective prayer of a righteous man can
accomplish much." Just think how much many prayers of many righteous
men can accomplish!

May God bless each of you.

Dear Friends,

A happy greeting to you from the States. I

want to thank you for your prayers as Jeff and 1
made the big step of marriage. We are living in
Knoxville while Jeff completes his Senior year
at Johnson Bible College. In one and a half
years we hope to be returning to Zimbabwe as
missionaries in Harare. Please continue to keep

us in your prayers as the Lord begins opening

the doors for our return to Africa.

want to encourage you to keep supporting
Shanda and the work in Zimbabwe through
prayer and finance. Shanda and i went to
Zimbabwe with less than one half the support

recommended by the Central Africa Mission.

As the Greencroft congregation is beginning an
essential building program your support is
needed even more.
Please join in the
excitement of God's church in Zimbabwe as

you see the results of your support in the

months to come.

1 am grateful for the support you gave me

while I was in Zimbabwe. And remember, we
each have our own mission field.

Robin and Jeff

Mark and Shanda

Dear Friends,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God in all
my remembrance of you.

The Lord is really working at the church here

at Greencroft. We are growing both spiritually
and numerically.
Yesterday we had more
people than seats at our worship service.

One big obstacle to growth is our lack of a

church building. We continue to meet in Mom
and Dad'shouse. We havejunior worship early
and have to send all the kids home because we

can't fit everyone in at once. It is a nice problem

to have but can get very frustrating at times. We
are in the process of building a temporary
building where we can meet until we can build a
church building. This is just a finishing off of a
building partially built on the
property.
Hopefully by the end of next year we will have
our church building. Please pray that City
Council will approve the plans and that the
finances will be provided. Building costs are
very high here.
1 have had an answer to prayer. When Robin
left I didn't know how I was going to cope alone.
When I went home for her wedding I thought we
would have to stop the Friday youth meetings.
But God sent Mark Oakley. Mark has been a
strong member of the Greencroft Christian
Church and offered to take over the youth while
I was gone. He enjoyed it so much that he has
decided to stay on and help lead. It is nice not
only to have a helper but to have a guy for the

boys to lean on. Jehovah Jireh God Provided,

not only as a work mate but also by giving me a
best friend to make up for Robin being so far
away.

Mark and I also have an announcement to

make. Feeling it is God's will for our lives, we

plan to be married on January 3, 1987 here in
Harare. We are happy and so thankful to God
for bringing us together. Although he is a
Zimbabwean citizen, Mark spent five years in
Minnesota and came home to work just after
Robin and I arrived in Zimbabwe. God's timing

was perfect! I will continue to work the same as

before and we plan to keep the same plans to
return in 1988 for furlough.
I have had trouble getting into the high
schools here in the Greencroft area of Harare as
a Scripture teacher. However the Scripture

Union (Bible Club) committee from the schools

here had a meeting and voted me in as a
member-advisor. I am really excited because it
means getting to know many of the teenagers.
Maybe this is how the Lord wants me involved in
the schools at the moment. Please pray for me
as I work with the youth in this area.
I want to thank you once again for all the
support you have given these past two years.
Please continue to pray that the Lord will guide
and strengthen me as 1 serve Him. May God
bless each of you.
In Him,
Shanda

TEENAGERS BAPTIZED
Our first teenagers were baptized during our
youth meeting last Friday evening. Gloria and
Loveness have been coming for some time now
and had seen the need to obey the Lord in
baptism. We were proud of them and thankful
to God for working in their lives. This is also a
witness for some of the other kids to follow in
their example.

Dad built a baptistry in our front yard just

where the temporary church building is being
built. Last Sunday we had three baptisms.
What a witness to the people walking by as they
see everything that is going on!
