Summary: What is the Holy Ghost?

1. The Holy Spirit is a sign

Acts 7: 1-4

Then the high priest asked Stephen, Are these charges true?
2

To this he replied: Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father
Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran. 3 Leave your country
and your people, God said, and go to the land I will show you.[a]

So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God
sent him to this land where you are now living. 5 He gave him no inheritance here, not even
enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him
would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child. 6 God spoke to him in
this way: For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own,
and they will be enslaved and mistreated. 7 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, God
said, and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.[b] 8 Then he
gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and
4

circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob
became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

Because that God made a covenant with Abraham after Hed called Abraham, which is a type of
calling the believer today. He called Abraham, and he moved out of his country and went into a
strange land to dwell among strange people. And that was a type of when God calls a man to stop
his meanness, repent of his sins. He turns then from the crowd that he was in, to live in a new
crowd, among new types of the Holy Spirit.
You let me talk to a man two minutes; I can tell you whether hes received the Holy Ghost or
not. So can you. It separates them; its a Mark; its a sign. Any child that refused circumcision in
the Old Testament was cut off from amongst the people. He could not have fellowship with the
rest of the congregation if he refused to be circumcised.
Birds of a feather flock together. Well, its an old proverb, but its a true one. You dont see
doves and crows fellowshipping. Their diets are different; their desires are different. And thats

the way it is with the world and with a Christian when have been circumcised by the Holy Spirit,
which means to cut off a flesh.
You are so different when the Holy Spirit comes on you, until the mind of this world doesnt like
you, and theyre against you, and they dont want anything to do with you at all. You are borned
of another world; you are just as much an alien asten times alien that youd be if youd go in
the farest flung regions of African jungles.
Question: That sign of circumcision was given to Abraham and to his seed only?
Galatian 3:16, 28-29

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds,
as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male
nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the
promise.

How do we take Abrahams seed? By being in Christ, then we are Abrahams seed.
Now, when we are in Christ, we become Abrahams seed and are heirs with Christ;
therefore, no matter who we are, Jew or Gentile. And the seed of Abraham has the
faith of Abraham, who takes God of His Word. Regardless of how ridiculous it seems,
how unusual you act, how peculiar it makes you, you take God at his word.
Regardless of anything. And when you are circumcised of the Holy Ghost, it does the
same thing to you. It makes you do things that you didnt think you would do. It
makes you take Gods promise and believe God.

2. The Holy Spirit is a seal

Ephesians 4:30
30

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption.

A seal designates or means a finished work.

3. The Holy Spirit is Spirit of Christ in you

John 14:10-16

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I
speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the
works.
10

11

12

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the
very works' sake.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do
also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15

16

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you for ever;

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not,
neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
17

18

19

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye
shall live also.
20

At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
1 John 16:7
