DESIGN AND DRAWING OF RCC CANTILEVER RETAINING WALL

1. Design a cantilever retaining wall to retain an earth embankment with a horizontal top
4m above ground level. Density of earth = 18 kN/m 3. Angle of internal friction
= 30o. SBC of soil = 200 kN/m2.
Coefficient of friction between soil and concrete = 0.5. Adopt M 20 grade
concrete and Fe 415 HYSD bars.
Draw the following views:
Cross-section of retaining wall showing reinforcement details.
Longitudinal section showing curtailment.

2. Design a counterfort retaining wall based on the following data:


Height of wall above ground level = 6 m; SBC of soil = 160 kN/m2; Angle of internal
friction = 33o; Density of soil = 16 kN/m3; Spacing of counterforts = 3m c/c.
Adopt M20 grade concrete and Fe 415 HYSD bars
Draw the following views showing reinforcement details:

DESIGN OF SOLID SLAB BRIDGES FOR IRC LOADING AND


REINFORCEMENT DETAILS

3. Design an RC slab culvert for a national highway to suit the following data:
A two-lane carriage way (7.5 m wide); Footpaths on either side (1 m wide);
Clear span = 6 m; Wearing coat = 80 mm; Width of bearing = 0.4 m;
Materials : M 25 grade concrete ; Fe 415 grade HYSD bars;
Loading : IRC class AA tracked vehicle
Design the RC deck slab and sketch the details of reinforcements in the longitudinal and
cross-sections of the slab.

DESIGN OF RCC TEE BEAM BRIDGES FOR IRC LOADING AND REINFORCEMENT DETAILS

Design of RC T-beam bridge deck


Design an RC T-beam girder bridge to suit the following data:
Clear width of roadway = 7.5 m; Span (c/c of bearing) = 16 m; Live load = IRC class AA tracked vehicle;
Average thickness of wearing cost = 80 mm; Materials M25 grade concrete Fe 415 grade HYSD bars
Using Courbons method, compute the design moments and shears, design the deck slab, main girder and cross girders and sketch the typical
details of reinforcements.

Ex.No.5 :

DESIGN AND DRAFTING OF INTZ TYPE WATER TANK

Design an Intze-type water tank of capacity 1 million litres, supported on an elevated tower
comprising 8 columns. The base of the tank is 16 m above ground level and the depth of
foundations is 1 m below ground level. Adopt M20 grade concrete and Fe 415 grade HYSD bars.
The design of the tank should confirm to the stresses specified in IS: 456-1978, clauses 44.1 and
44.2. Draw the sectional elevation of the water tank showing reinforcement details in the dowm,
tank walls, ring girder, columns, braces and foundations.

Ex.No. 6 : DESIGN AND DETAILING OF CIRCULAR WATER TANKS


Design an RC circular water tank resting on the ground with a flexible base and a spherical
dome for a capacity of 5,00,000 litres. The depth of storage is to be 4m.
Free board = 200 mm. Use M 20 grade concrete and Fe 250 grade I steel. Permissible stresses
should comply with the values recommended in IS: 456-1978, clause 44.1 and
IS:3370 (Part II)-1965 .
Draw the following views :
Cross-section of the tank showing reinforcement details in dome, tank walls and floor
slab.
Plan of the tank showing reinforcement details.

Ex.No. 7 : DESIGN AND DETAILING OF RECTANGULAR WATER TANKS


Design a rectangular RC water tank (resting on the ground) with an open top for a capacity of
80,000 litres. The inside dimension of the tank may be taken as 6 m x 4m. Design the side
walls of the tank using M20 grade concrete and Fe 250 grade I mild steel. Draw the following
views:

DESIGN OF HEMISPHERICAL BOTTOMED STEEL TANK


DETAILED DRAWINGS

Design an elevated cylindrical steel tank with hemispherical bottom for 1,60,000 litres
capacity. The tank has conical roof. The ring beam of the tank is at a height of 10m from the
ground level. The tank is to be built at Delhi. Take fy = 250 N/mm2.

DESIGN OF PLATE GIRDER BRIDGE AND DETAILED DRAWINGS INCLUDING CONNECTIONS

Design a composite bridge deck with an RC slab and steel plate girders, to cover a span of 18 m.
Clear width of roadway = 7.5 m; Foot path = 1 m on either side; spacing of mail girders = 2m; Live load = IRC class AA tracked vehicle;
Materials M25 grade concrete Fe 415 grade HYSD bars. Design the RC deck slab and the steel plate girders with shear connectors. Draw the following
views to a suitable scale.
The cross-section of the deck slab continuous over steel girders, and cross-section of the steel girders.
Longitudinal elevation of the steel girders showing the details of the shear connectors.

LOADING FOR THE FOLLOWING DATA:

Effective span = 39 m; Centre to centre spacing of stringer = 1.9m; Sleepers and their spacings = 250 mm x 150 mm x 2.8 m @ 0.4 m c/c;
Density of timber = 7.4 kN/m3; Weight of stock rails = 0.44 kN/m; Weight of guard rails = 0.26 kN/m; Weight of fasteners, etc. = 0.28 kN/m of
track.

Ex. No. 13 : ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF RC PORTAL FRAME BY STAADPRO


Analyze the RC portal frame and generate the BMD, SFD and AFD for the given data:
i)
Length of columns = 5m, Size of columns : 230 x 230mm
ii)
Length of beam = 5m, Size of beam : 230 x 450mm
iii)
Loading on beam: Factored uniformly distributed load of 25kN/m on beam and a factored
concentrated load of 20kN, acting on the left beam-column joint.
