Berkeley Medical Center, has earned the
designation of Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) by the American
Hospital Association (AHA) Certification
Center.
Earning the CHFM is clearly a mark of

distinction, stated Anthony P. Zelenka,
president and chief operating officer at
Berkeley Medical Center. We are proud
to have someone with Scotts expertise
and knowledge in healthcare facilities
management on our healthcare team.
The CHFM is a national credential that

distinguishes an individual as being
among the elite in the healthcare facilities
management profession. To earn the
CHFM, Mathis successfully satisfied
eligibility requirements that take into
consideration work experience and
education, agree to adhere to the AHA
Professional Standards of Conduct, and
pass the CHFM Examination.
Mathis holds a Bachelor of Science degree

in construction management from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro,
GA. He has been employed at Berkeley
Medical Center since August 2011. Prior
to that time, he worked as a project engineer for Howard Shockey & Sons, based
in Winchester, VA.

GPS has virtually eliminated the need for paper maps
to get from point A to point B. Many people argue
that GPS has made it safer to drive because drivers
and passengers no longer need to fiddle with maps
should they get lost. For those unfamiliar with the
roadways or surroundings, navigation systems can
alert drivers to which lane to be in and upcoming turns
or obstacles.
However, GPS devices are fallible. Trusting in them
too completely can lead to adverse consequences.
The following are safe ways to use navigating
devices.
Pre-program the device. Dont program the
GPSwhile moving. Enter the destination prior to
departing.
Select a hands-free device.When buying a device,
select a GPS navigation system that is hands-free.
This can be a unit that mounts on the windshield or is
built into a cars dashboard.
Learn the terminology. Each GPS unit is different
and may have different lingo for particular instructions.
Very often a device may instruct drivers to keep left
when it simply means to stay straight on course.
