Memories
Thanks for the memories! The
obituary for Jeannette Charles
brought them back. I was on
the first mission trip to Red Bird
Mission in Kentucky. My aunt
and uncle Helen & Roy Naylor
drove the Green Mountain
school bus that we rode in.
Gordon Zink was on that trip,
and I think Mervin Yetley plus
many others I cant remember
That was a long time ago
about in 1960? Please keep
sending the Chapel Chimes.
Some of the names are new
but they all appear to be busy
for the Lord, and thats what its
all about.

Angel Tree
On behalf of the Food Pantry
and Angel Tree Committee, I
would like to extend a heartfelt
thanks to everyone in the
Gladbrook, Garwin and
Lincoln communities who
helped bring the spirit of
C h r i s t m a s t o s o m a n y.
Through the generosity of
students, Scouts, youth
groups, organizations,
individuals, and families, we
helped 16 families in need this
holiday season. Chapel
Church donated gifts for 13
children. Besides Chapel, a
special thank you to the
members of Salem Church,
Christ Lutheran Church,
Gladbrook UMC, and Peace
Church for donating the
presents for the kids, and to
the volunteers. I would like to
wish everyone a very blessed
Christmas and a happy and
healthy new year.

Chapel Caroling
About 50 Christmas carolers sang to 22 people on
Sunday, December 7. They met at the church at 2:30 pm.
Group I caroled to Wayne & Norma Somers, Les Beal, Dale
Moler, Melva Vint, Doris Case, Janices Aunt Bessie, Leona
Schultz, Hepsi Daniel, Hospice House, Elaine Plett, and
Shirley Ossman. They caroled to two patients at the Hospice
House. One lady was very quiet but when we sang Angels
We Have Heard on High, she immediately lifted her eyes up
toward heaven; afterwards, she had a nice talk with Barb
Plaehn and Cindy Krull.
Group II caroled to Jay Dee Shouse, Bess Fulster,
Vivian Dennis, Donald Mann, Patti Cornwell, Mike & Maryetta
Wood, Pete Hoing (& many others at Embers), and Mildred
Estal. When at Westbrook, some ladies asked if the carolers
could sing in German - Vaugn Kloster started singing Silent
Night in GermanGreat job, Vaugn! The groups met at
Zenos for pizza afterwards.
Thank you, Karen & Claire Handorf, for buying the
chocolate candy; Darrel and Barbara Burt for making the list
of caroling order and times (not an easy task); Dean Messerly
who led the caroling; and Carol Lamer who reserved Zenos.
The Volunteers wish everyone a Happy New Year!
Cantata
Cantata
Eighteen singers from our communities performed a
Christmas cantata, Reflections of Christmas, on
December 14 during the worship services at Garwin UMC
and Chapel. Our participants were Vaugn & Carolyn
Kloster, Barbara Burt, Tricia Steen, and McKensie Vaske.
McKensie performed a duet with Jill Roberts, and she did
a wonderful job. The narrator was Megan Slingluff, and
the director was Dan Lastovka, band and technology
director at GMG. It was a very meaningful service
performed by talented singers.

A Few Descriptions
USHERS: Arrive at 10:10 am, greet everyone & give bulletin, if some seated give bulletin, adjust fans,
ask two people to stand at side aisles while gathering offering, make sure speaker system is on (left
door); if red light is not on by left/north wall, turn on switch (left of speaker system); turn off speaker
system at end of church; find two acolytes, help them with robes, and send up at 10:25 your choice
whether to light all candles or just two on altar. Ushers, please make sure this happens so that our
worship service starts right at 10:30 am.
ACOLYTES: Acolytes, please be in the narthex by at least 10:20 am so that you can put on your robes
before lighting the candles at 10:25 am. Go to an usher immediately following Sunday School, and put
on the robes. Decide if you will light all the candles or the two on altar, light candles by 10:25 am, and
turn off wicks coming back to represent the light staying at church this hour. Extinguish candles during
last hymn but keep wicks lit afterwards to represent spreading Gods light this week.
NURSERY: If someone wants their pre-kindergarten child to be in the nursery during the worship
service, please check if the nursery attendants are present; if not, contact an usher who will find them.
Assignment list is in narthex.
MUSIC & FLOWERS: You are responsible for providing or asking someone else to provide special
music for your designated Sunday. Also, please bring flowers, real or artificial, to set on the flower
stand at the altar or use an arrangement in the room off the stage or in the overflow closet.
Assignment list is in narthex. Thank you!

The Chapel Ladies Cemetery Aid met Friday, December 5, 2014, for their Christmas luncheon.
We traveled to West Des Moines to the Nativity Festival held at the Valley United Methodist Church, where
over four hundred crches were displayed among candles, lights, music, greenery and beautiful fabrics. The
nativity sets were from all over the world, brought to the festival by church members and friends. The event
was a beautiful way to start the Advent season.
We ate our lunch at Romanos Macaroni Grill. We all thought our meals were delicious. After lunch we
shopped at Valley West Mall before coming home.
We had a very enjoyable day.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Kloster, secretary
