What is the difference between BE and B.

Tech
or ME and M.Tech?
First of all, let me tell you that after reading this, youll not worry about this
trivial thing. If youre reading this question, it shows that low self-esteem and
social pressure (like some of your peers are B.Tech & youre B.E.) {the vice-versa
case generally doesnt happen} have led you to search about this baseless
question in the first place. Also, let me tell you 5-10 years down the line, youll
feel why such a question ever crept into your mind. Enough pep-talk , lets
move on to the issue at hand.
A common question among engineering students and usually a question of
argument between friends/peers is what is the difference between B.Tech and
BE, which is better or has better scope. Similarly for M.Tech too, what is the
difference between M.Tech and ME. I googled it and found many forums filled
with unsatisfying replies. I present here a very rational and valid difference
between the two.
First please note that there is no difference between these degrees in terms of
value and scope. BE and B.Tech have similar scope and on the same lines, ME
and M.Tech also have same scope.
Now lets dig a little deeper. If BE and B.Tech or ME and M.Tech have same value
and scope then why the different names/nomenclatures.
Right after independence [Were talking about Indias unless someone else has
stumbled here by mistake ], we had two types of universities, first which offered
courses in many fields like Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Engineering too, and
the second set of universities (named as institutes) offered courses only in
engineering. Universities which offered other courses along with engineering
named their engineering degree as B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) and Institutes
constituted purely for engineering courses named their degree as B.Tech
(Bachelor of Technology).
Now as the AICTE approves these courses, most of the core subjects are identical
for BE and B.Tech. The universities offering B.E. earlier renamed their courses to
B.Tech when they started offering new courses.
No degree, BE vs. B.Tech or ME vs. M.Tech is superior other in terms of
theory/course/lab work and credits. Both of them are same and have similar
scope and future. If there is some notification for BE, B.Tech people are also
eligible to apply and vise versa.
Lastly, I would like to add that if scope merely means number of job
opportunities with high salaries, it keeps changing due to changes in economic
conditions, technological advancements and social/legal changes.

If a wider meaning of scope is meant, then scope is always for a person and not
for stamps or labels/degrees that he/she carries. Persons with talent,
commitment and hard work create scope for themselves out of nothing in ANY
WALK OF LIFE.
