Subject-matter: Information on the minimum technical

requirements for the System RTS

This communication aims at summing up and updating the minimum technical requirements which are
necessary to allow a correct and efficient functioning of the RTS Information System.
More precisely, all possible complications due to any configurations which do not fulfil the following
requirements, have been excluded from the routine software maintenance supplied by RTS, which
cannot guarantee the resets for a correct functioning of the system so that they will be supplied as a
professional remote-control service.
We specify that the certifications related to the correct functioning of an operating system on a given
hardware, of the printer or runtime, on a particular operating system, can be supplied only by the
manufacturer (HP, Dell, IBM, Microfocus, etc) and cannot be issued directly by RTS.
Further, in case of installation or substitution of PC, printers or other equipments which interact with the
RTS System, it is necessary to send a written communication in advance (at least 3 working days) to our
customer service so that the services can be suitably planned by RTS.
We report here below the list including the necessary minimum requirements:

1. RTSv8

Release of RTS: it must be totally updated, at least every 2 years or by following the specific
instructions of RTS in relation to some specific architecture changes or new optional modules
which do not allow the backward compatibility with previous versions.

Historical data recording: it is highly recommended to record the movements related to more
than 5 years of the current activity (for reasons of performance and efficiency of the system).

Database Oracle: the 11g R2 (SE/SE ONE) version is certified with installation on Windows
server; the 12c version is currently in certification stage.

Database SQL Server: the 2014 Standard Edition version is certified.

Server RTS: it must be protected by UPS systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with
appropriate capacity and must be configured with web switching-off software, to
guarantee the automatic shut down in case of power supply interruption;
Without or with wrong functioning of these devices, eventual power surges or
interruptions can damage RTS servers and data archives (situation out of maintenance
support)

2. Network
The factory network to which all work positions of the system RTS are connected (PC, server,
printers), must be structured and certified at all points for 100 Mb, 1 Gb or more (1 Gb is
necessary between the servers).

3. Operating Systems Server RTS

LINUX: the current certified versions are: SLES 10 (updated service pack 2), SLES 11/11.1/11.2
(version 32/64 bit, recommended version 32bit).
WINDOWS: The current certified versions are Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 (Standard,
Enterprise or Datacenter edition); Windows server 2012/2012 R2.
a. Windows Server 2003/2003 R2 are out of support since 1st July 2013.
b. It is certified that the client RTSv8 with the runtime version AcuGT 8.1.3 both for
Windows server 2008/2008 R2 and Windows 7 Professional; on the contrary,
Windows 8 professional is certified since the runtime release 9.2.2.
c. Recommended backup Software (for Windows): Acronis True Image (mode: disk
to disk to tape);
d. As regards third-party softwares, please refer to operating systems indicated in
the respective technical specifications
e. HW main features:
16 Gb of RAM (minimum recommended in relation to the active services);
Raid Hardware with SAS 15K disks (solutions with spare disk included are
recommended)
For windows separated volumes for operating system and data (C of system of
at least 80-100GB, D for data);
Net card 1 Gbit or more;

4. Operating Systems on virtual machines

a. RTS installs and configures its software in virtual environments based on VMWare
ESXi/vSphere 4.1/5, certified hardware (ex. SAN) and with s.o. Linux Sles 11.x o Windows
2008/2012; other solutions or combinations cannot be considered as valid without special
tests and they need the certification issued by a specific supplier;
b. RTS supports virtual solutions based on VMWare ESXi/vSphere 4.1/5, it being understood
that the necessary certification competence of manufacturers of virtualization software and
operating systems must be possible;
c. In case of virtualized solutions, the technical support of RTS is related to the guest operating
systems (Linux, Windows), whereas the virtualization system management as well as the
installation and hardware configuration and of the basic operating system (ESX) will be in
charge of a third party in the same way as for the hardware.

d. IMPORTANT NOTES:
e. The System RTS if installed on virtual systems, has a specific software licence
for its use: for any further detail, our sales dept staff are at your disposal to give
you all necessary information;
f.

RTS advise you against using automatic tools for the migration of physical
machines directly on new virtual machines (solution NOT certified by RTS); in
several cases, this mode has shown the potential instability of the migrated system,
thats why RTS prefers specific activities of re-installation and configuration on new
VM of its systems;

5. ACU Runtime
It is supported the runtime version 9.2.2.

6. Client PC: every PC must have one of the following operating systems:
a. Windows 7 (last available servicepack) Professional/Ultimate (NOT Home edition): in this
case, it is necessary to have the Runtime version AcuGT 8.1.3 of the RTS system (in case of
previous versions, it is necessary to plan a precautionary intervention to consider with our
commercial staff);
b. Windows 8/8.1 Professional/Enterprise (NOT Home edition, NOT RT): in this case, it is
necessary to have the Runtime version AcuGT 9.2.2 of the RTS system (in case of previous
versions, it is necessary to plan a precautionary intervention to consider with our commercial staff);

c.

Windows XP Professional (service pack 3) (*): out of support since 01/07/2013.

(*): In case of any problem related to the PC, this will be substituted by a supported system (7/8
Professional), in particular, the substitution will be necessary in the following cases of runtime change:
8.1.3 certified for Windows 7;
9.2.2 certified for Windows 8;
d. The minimum hardware requirements for PC are:
i. RAM: 2 Gb or higher (4 Gb minimum for 7);
ii. CPU: Core i3 or higher;
iii. Monitor with resolution 1024x768 (unless particular specifications which will be accurately
defined);
iv. For the production PCs, it is necessary to provide a possible serial port for the interface with
the system of data sensing.

e. Internet Browser:
On the work positions PC TOPP updated to the versions 2010 or the following ones, it is
necessary to install Internet Explorer 8;
DAVID: Internet Explorer 8 is supported ONLY by David FX.

7. Pc Topp System
7.1 Server requirements
XEON E5 processors or Intel I7 last generation with speed 2,5Ghz or higher
8gb Ram or higher
At least 80 gb hard disk, recommended configuration with 2 hard disks with configuration raid for
2 sections, system c:\ and data d:\. Recommended disks SATA or SAS with high speed of data
reading and writing (> 50Mb/s)
Net card Gigabit

7.2 Requirements for Office Positions

I5 or I7 Intel processors (remember, the Core2duo processors are allowed but not recommended,
the Pentium4 processors are no more supported)
At least 1Gb Ram (higher if the operating system is different from Windows Xp professional)
Net card Gigabit
Recommended resolution 1280x1024
7.3 Requirements for Production Positions
I5 or I7 Intel processors (remember, the Core2duo processors are allowed but not recommended,
the Pentium4 processors are no more supported)
At least 2Gb Ram
Net card Gigabit
Touch screen monitor (recommended for touch screen mode terminal machine, 17"
recommended)
9pin Serial port for connection of pieces counting

7.4 Requirements of Printers
Laser PCL Printers (pcl5 or higher)

7.5 Requirements of Software Server

Operating system Windowx Xp professional or Windows 7/8 professional (32/64 bit)
7.7 Requirements of Software for production positions
Operating system Windowx Xp professional or Windows 7/8 professional (32/64 bit)
7.8 Antivirus
The only antivirus which is currently recommended and tested is Trend Micro. The antivirus must be
configured with exclusions on paths:
c:\pctopp\*
e:\drive_f\* (if the data are on disk e:\ del server PC-Topp)
y:\ (if there is a connection with the corrugators and the pcs map this net resource has to be
excluded from the checking).

8. Printers
Printers must be laser type with language PCL 5e/ 5c, PCL6; the shared printers have to be connected
and net configured (by net card or dedicated print server) and not shared by connection to the pc;

Recommended Hp printers:

N.B.: The firmware updating is recommended if available;
Printers must be compatible with the language PCL5e/5c/6 and the driver for the Windows server
system on which they are installed and configured; we precise that the correct interpretation of the above
mentioned PCL language by the printer or related driver, are certified by the manufacturer. Any
dissimilarity of printing in particular as concerns the sheet framing (dissimilarities which are not produced
by printers recommended by RTS or other printers in use) will not be attributed to RTS; it is clearly
understood that RTS is at your disposal with its staff of qualified technicians in order to supply
professional assistance and services to find out the best solution.
You are advised to verify the good performance of Windows to print PDF documents with the printer
drivers in use, because this is the standard format of RTS documents.
The printers GDI, host-based or similar printers with PCL emulation by specific driver (for
example hp 1000 type) are not supported. Other brands/models of printers are not certified by RTS
unless there is a specific commercial agreement for the estimation and certification with printer supplied
by the client to be approved by RTS.

Printers which are NOT net printers cannot be supported. It is recommended to configure
net printers in order to use the Windows server drivers.

9. OFFICE
The versions of MS Office Professional 2007, 2010, 2013 are supported.
MS Office Professional 2003 is not supported since 01/07/2013;
Office distributions which are different from the Microsoft ones listed above, ARE NOT currently supported
(ex. Open Office).

10. EasyDOC, Crystal Report and integrated modules

(Easymail/Easyfax/EasyCom/Webord etc)

a.

Easymail: This module allows to send emails by the smtp connection with possible
authentication; in particular, the unique authentication must allow the sending even on
behalf of other accounts.

b.

Easyfax: This method of fax sending is made by the provider Kpnqwest, other solutions
must be verified with RTS to check the compatibility.

c.

E-Mail send and receive solutions do not support the communication with SMTP server (EMail send server), registered with self-signed certificates.

d.

The way of sending the printing demand to the spooler, is based on the functionality of drag
& drop to the selected printer for the type of file concerned. This functionality is linked to the
Windows system and used by RTS in a clear way. Thats why, RTS is not in charge of
performance limits which are caused by printer drivers or other equipments not directly
supplied by RTS.

e.

Crystal Report is supported since release 12.

Internet connections, LAN

a. Mail Service: for mail services a ADSL or HDSL connection must be available;
b. RTS Remote Assistance: for the RTS remote assistance on servers, a connection VPN
must be always available (recommended choice) on Internet ADSL or HDSL (flat type) with at
least 2 available static IP addresses, minimum suitable and guaranteed band, compatible
router and firewall with Juniper/Fortinet; as an alternative it is possible to receive teleassistance with port forwarding to define in details with RTS;
c. LAN (important note): the local net of the Client WILL NOT HAVE TO BE CONFIGURED on
the following classes:
i. 192.168.0.0/24 o /16
ii. 172.24.0.0/16
iii. Further, for the creation of VPN the local net must not be already used for other
connections; this is a point the customer has to previously check with RTS;
iv. In case of a new starting up, it is recommended to contact our technicians in advance
in order to check if the available IPs are compatible.

12.

Antivirus Systems:

RTS recommends the Trend Micro System (Worry Free Business Security Version).
In particular, if you use the PC TOPP system and/or other RTS systems which operate on support
databases (ex. Oracle), you have to avoid the antivirus systems which monitor the virtual ports
(nod32) because they block the web functions and/or the SQL activities on virtual ports of the
database server.

Domain Configurations

In order to have a correct and better management of net authentications, all servers and PCs of the
RTS system must be correctly configured under Windows domain; this configuration is usually
managed by the client and possible external suppliers who are in charge of hw and net); you must pay
attention to check if all CAL licences are available.
The PC TOPP server created its domain or joins an existing domain and is configured with an
administrator user of dedicated domain for the execution of web services and all internal processes of
elaboration.
As usual, RTS is at your disposal for assistance and advice in relation to the net configuration.
However, all these related points are in charge of the client.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
With Windows 7/8 all PCs and servers (RTS server included) must be under domain and this
domain must be managed by a Windows server which is correctly installed/configured/managed
(activities NOT attributed to RTS), in order to avoid any net authentication problem.

14.

Backup
The client is in charge of the backup management and has to consider it with his/her supplier.
RTS highlights the importance of the backup, of backup checking, and the possibility of getting a
backup copy even out of the company location.
c) As concerns the RTSv8 server, RTS usually makes a compressed archive with data and
procedures, which is sufficient to make a possible backup (a situation to evaluate on the basis of
the available space on server); This backup can be copied on net sharing and then on support
(RDX/DLT/NAS) by the Client.
