BAYANTEL is a telecommunications company


During Marcos time, PLDT was the only telecommunication
company in the Philippines. (Monopoly)
o Disadvantages:
3 years installation

The monopoly of PLDT was carried until the time of Cory
Aquino
During the presidency of Fidel V. Ramos, he saw the need for
more telephone lines that started the de-regularization of the
PLDT monopoly
o This was the time where new players came like Globe,
Smart, Bayantel and others, around Mid 1990s (1995)
They were licensed to services (telephone,
cellphone)
Also, during the time of Ramos, small companies
were given service areas and to install telephone
lines not only in Manila but also in provinces
BAYANTELs service areas during that time were
Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Davao and Quezon City
Where each telecommunication companies are
required to install 100,000 telephone lines

1. Resources
- We are not as big as other companies
- Although BAYAN was the first to tap the 100,000 quota during the
Ramos Administration, other companies were still able to catch up
- Smaller companies are being brought by other big companies
2. No Cellphone Services
-Which is a cash cow these days
3. Not visible to media
- Because of limited resources, BAYAN is making good investments
only and are strategic to marketing collaterals
- Commercials are only seem on ABS-CBN as a part of the Lopez
Group
4. Limited Strategic Centers
- Centers are only at Teachers Village (Main Office) and SM NorthEdsa
- Though you can transact over the phone or online
5. Foreign Partnership/Investors from abroad to expand
- BAYAN is a fully Filipino operated and owned even from the start
unlike Globe

OPPORTUNITIES
1. Very Strong with Corporate Clients
We sell our services to call centers, Banks, and other offices

BAYAN called Family ties where OFWs abroad will be paying
the bills of their family in the Philippines in using BAYAN

1. Aggressive Competition
Always on a lookout
Ex. Wireless landline of BAYAN gave growth to unlimited
promos of other competitors
2. Growth of the PLDT Group (digitel, PLDT, etc)
Digitel became stronger when PLDT bought them
3. Natural Disasters
a. Ondoy and Sendong
i. Facilities of BAYANTEL aka cabinets are flooded
ii. There are no services on these areas, though BAYAN
is less affected
4. Preference of People (Cellphone vs. Landline)
5. Many customers from other areas wants or products but:

b. Need to concentrate on company respective areas
