A Blessed, Joyful, and Prosperous New Year To All Of You!

Time belongs to God! We dont have control over it, because we cannot control God. We can only use it wisely
or waste it like the grace of God constantly poured unto us, we can only avail of it or waste it in our indifference
and arrogance! As we thank God for all the blessings we receive in 2014, let us open up our minds and hearts to
Gods grace that we may sanctify this year 2015 with our prayers and study of our faith, and our reception of the
sacraments!
Happy 50 Years Anniversary Celebration of our Church Building!
Congratulations on our culmination of the celebration of the Church 50 years of its construction which we started
December last year! This celebration affords us the opportunity once again to grow in our understanding of the
Church established by Christ and the love for the worship building that we have dedicated to God. In the Gospel
of John 2:17 it reads His disciples recalled the words of scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me, quoting Psalm 69:9. This reminds us of how we, the people of God, the Body of Christ-the church, is connected with
the Church building which is not just a place for worship but is also at the same time a visible sign of us, the
real Church! As we maintain and protect our visible material church building, we also need to do the same to
mystical body of Christ we need to maintain our spiritual relationship with God, and we need to protect our faith
from all dangers that may corrupt it. We can do it by constant prayers and coming to this material building to
worship with the whole community and constantly receive the sacraments from our mother Church especially
confession and the Eucharist! This is clearly foreshadowed in the Old Testament Book of the Prophet Ezekiel
chapter 47 that talks about the water flowing from the temple becoming into a river where along its banks every
form of life grows. This gives us a visual of the Church building made sacred as it is being dedicated to God and
all the sacraments celebrated within give us spiritual nourishment and assured us of eternal life! May the blessing
of the grace of this anniversary help us grow in our love for God and for each other!
The Presence of Our Bishop at the Anniversary!
Why is the presence of our Bishop so important in our anniversary celebration? As I have pointed out in the preceding paragraph, the church building is a symbol of us! There can be no parish without a diocese, in as much as

there can be no pastor without the bishop. As I have also mentioned a few a couple of weeks ago, Saint Ignatius of Antioch, believed to be a disciple of Saint John the Apostle way back in 117
AD wrote that we should not do anything without the bishops presence or consent! As he is the head of the local church, the diocese,
to which we are a part, it is just proper that he is here with us, and
we should value his presence. After all, he is our real pastor.
Priests are only extension of the bishop!
With Gratitude, Thank You!
Thank you to our Anniversary Committee who have been sacrificing their time and talent since last year to plan, organize, and coordinate all the activities that we have done to make our anniversary
celebration meaningful and giving us opportunities for spiritual
growth and renewal! The anniversary committee members for
Saint Joseph in Arma are: Karen Pryer and Dustin Ashmore as co
-chairpersons, Marcel and Helen Normand, Debbie Ashbacher,
Fred Bogina, and Joan Barbieri. For Saint Michael in Girard are :
Wayne and Marilyn McCracken, chair couple, Barb Mikrut,
Butch and Mary Reif, Jim and Margaret OToole, Dean and Tonya Davied, Dave and Linda Garrett, and Rick and Eileen Bland.
Thank you to all these parishioners whose efforts make our celebration possible and successful! We also thank our parish and finance
councils, altar society and all who in one way or another contributed to the success of our celebration! God bless all of them for their
hard work!
We also thank the Verdan Davied family and the Knights of Columbus for the Ten Commandments and Beatitudes Tablet at Saint
Michael in Girard that is now in place at the southeast corner in
front of the Church and which our bishop will bless this Sunday!
God bless all of you! Fr. Roger

The Joy of the Gospel: Faith Working Through Love

January 4. 2015 - Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord
The Glory of the Lord Shines! Through the encouraging words of
Isaiah the Prophet, the people of Israel envisioned a glorious display
of power when God returned to dwell with them. But when the
Christ child was born, only the shepherds and the Magi recognized
the glory of the Lord present in the stable in Bethlehem. When we
face the truth in the presence of Jesus our lord, do we become troubled by the implications like King Herod? God's love surrounds us
and shines brightly when we open our hearts to accept Him. May the
joy and peace of Christmas continue to draw us to the Glory of God.
Word of Life - Intercessions for Life
January 4th - The Epiphany of the Lord
For all vulnerable people: That we may love and care for them as the
special gifts from God that they are; We pray to the Lord:

How Well Do You Know Your Bishop?

If an acquaintance were to ask you if you know Carl Kemme, what would
your response be? Yes, I know him. Ive heard of him. No, I dont believe I
recognize the name. Most of us would fall into one of these categories. Yet,
Carl A. Kemme was named in February as the Bishop-elect of the Wichita
Diocese when Bishop Michael Jackels was named Archbishop and moved to
Iowa. On May 1, he was ordained as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita
by Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas, in
the home Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita. Pat Westhoff
and I were privileged to attend as representatives of St. Josephs Church. I had
never witnessed the ordination of a bishop and found the ceremony very moving and historical.
Bishop Kemmes parents, Marita and Donald, have a farm home near
Shumway, Illinois, and it would be no exaggeration to say that they were
stunned on that February day when their son called to inform them of the
news. But, they werent really surprised because they both had predicted that
he was going to be made bishop someplace, someday. His mother recalled that
he was always the first to volunteer to serve Mass or willing to do anything for
the church. As a child in his bedroom, he would have Mass with a couple
pieces of bread that he made into hosts. His mother believes that he always had
a calling for the priesthood. He was at home at an early age going through the
rosaries, the prayer books, and the bibles. He has four brothers and a sister in
his immediate family.
After his freshman year in a public high school near home, he spent the last
three years at a preparatory seminary high school in Belleville, near St. Louis.
He was only 14 and his parents had doubts for him to be so far away from
home, but his mother said, He never looked back. He finished his training at
what is now Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis.
When he was named Bishop-elect by Pope Francis, Msgr. Kemme was
serving in his home Diocese of Springfield, Illinois under his Bishop Thomas
Paprocki. His bishop was not surprised at Msgr.s elevation, for the monsignor
had served as diocesan administrator of the Springfield Diocese before Bishop
Paprockis appointment. Bishop Paprocki noted, Just in that short time, I was
impressed with him as seemingly a very prayful man.a man of quiet determination. He is strong in his faith and in his upholding of Catholic traditions.
Hes a hands-on pastordefinitely one who has been with the people. He is
delightful to work with, one with a good sense of human and easy to approach.
Like Bishop Paprocki, a marathon runner, Bishop Kemme has taken up
running and has run in half-marathons. Omahas Archbishop George Lucas
came to know Bishop Kemme when he, Lucas, had served as bishop of the
Diocese of Springfield, ILL. In 1999. At the time, Msgr. Kemme was pastor of
a large parish in Decatur, IL, Archbishop Lucas commented, Hes a devoted
priest, very practical, with lots of common sense. He has an even temper in
dealing with priests and parishioners. Marlene Mulford, who is Chancellor in
the diocese of Springfield, has known and worked with Bishop Kemme. Her
assessment: Hes a good listener. He uses good judgment; therefore, he has
good wisdom. He loves being a priest! I recall when hed walk into our Pastoral Center in Springfield, hed say, Its another day in paradise!
On his Ordination Day, Bishop-elect Kemme hosted a luncheon at the
Lords Diner, reflecting his humility and service that he plans to emphasize
and follow. He said he will take his cues from Pope Francis and he have chosen humilitas, Latin for humility, as his motto. In choosing to hold his
luncheon at the Diner, he said that he wanted a simple meal that we can share
in the same place where our brothers and sisters receive their daily bread.
Pope Francis would approve, wouldnt you agree?
I hope these comments will cause you to feel like you know our Bishop
better. He will be here today (Saturday, Jan.3) to celebrate Mass on the occasion of our 50th year in the church that Fr. John Reinkemeyer helped to build.
Tomorrow, (Sunday,Jan.4), he will celebrate Mass at St. Michaels in Girard,
observing the half century mark in the construction of their church. Lets welcome our new Bishop with a friendly smile and enthusiastic participation. As
Fr. Roger said, This type of celebration only happens once in a lifetime! Lets
make the most of it!
