SCHEDULE 5 - System shall provide coverage for building areas noted.

SCHEDULE 10 - DRAWINGS
SCHEDULE 11 - The Contract Drawings are diagrammatic only. Pipe lengths shown are approximate center to center
lengths between fittings. Subcontractor shall determine the actual measurements and make any and such length and
offset adjustments as may be necessary to complete the installation at no change in the contract price. The drawings are
not intended to relieve the Subcontractor of responsibility for avoiding conflicts or obstructions or for installing the number
of sprinklers and supply piping as required to provide complete protection of the designated areas in accordance with the
requirements of the referenced standards and these specifications. Written approval shall be obtained from the Engineer
of Record prior to making major deviations from the arrangement and layout shown on the Drawings.

SCHEDULE 12 - SUBMITTALS
SCHEDULE 13 - Submit under provisions of Division 21 Section "Common Results for Fire Suppression, Review of
Materials" and Division 01 Section "General Requirements."
SCHEDULE 14 - Shop Drawings: Within 30 days after the award of the contract, develop and submit drawings required
for the construction, commissioning, and maintenance of the system including detailed pipe layout, hangers and supports,
piping components, valve and sprinkler head locations, and accessories. The drawings shall bear the stamp of a
Professional Engineer or a C-16 contractor licensed to perform such work by the State of California.

Electronic files of the Subcontract drawings will be provided by LBNL for the Subcontractors use in developing
the detailed shop drawings for this project upon request. drawings prepared by the Subcontractor shall be
developed using the AutoCADTM computer-aided drafting program. drawings shall be a maximum ANSI size
D. notations, dimensions, and lettering shall be no smaller than 1/8" on 'D' size drawings. Font style shall be
Simplex or RomanS. The correct orientation (North arrow) and elevation shall be shown on plan views. The
title block shall bear the names and signatures of the employees who drew, checked, and approved each
drawing.

The drawings shall be sequenced in a logical order, such as building and floor numbers in ascending order.
With the exception of common construction details, each drawing shall depict work within a single building.
Floor plans of existing buildings provided by LBNL shall be shown faded on the drawings so that the new work
is highlighted.

Calculations: The Subcontractor shall produce and submit detailed hydraulic calculations to prove that the
system has been designed in accordance with NFPA 13. The calculations shall bear the stamp of approval of a
Professional Engineer or a C-16 contractor licensed to perform such work by the State of California. For this
project, the following data shall be used in the design calculations.
Static pressure: [.] psi.

Product Data: Within 10 days after the award of the contract, submit technical product specification sheets for
each system component and device which include data needed to prove compliance with this specification.
Clearly indicate the exact model of each component to be provided. Include manufacturer's installation

Indicate pipe materials used, jointing methods, supports, floor and wall penetration seals.
Indicate valve data and ratings.

Pump Data:
Indicate pump type, capacity, power requirements, affected adjacent construction.
Submit certified pump curves showing pump performance characteristics with pump and system operating
point plotted. Include NPSH curve when applicable.

Installer Qualifications: Submit evidence that the installer is regularly engaged in the installation of automatic
fire sprinkler equipment and systems with at least 3 years experience, and that they are licensed by the State
of California (C-16) to do such construction. Submit evidence that the welder(s) for this project are certified in
accordance with ASME BPVC Sec IX or AWS D10.9.

Operation and Maintenance Data:


Include written maintenance data and servicing requirements for components of the system.
Include pump operation, maintenance, and inspection data, replacement part numbers and availability, and
location and telephone numbers of service depot.

Project Record Documents:


Submit electronic files developed for this project including shop drawings and calculations. The shop drawings
shall be revised to show the "as-built" conditions including actual locations of system components and affected
equipment including piping, sprinkler heads, risers, laterals, supports, and points of connection. The shop
drawings files shall be submitted in AutoCADTM version 2002 format.

SCHEDULE 15 - QUALITY ASSURANCE


SCHEDULE 16 - Design and installation shall conform to and comply with NFPA 13, NFPA 14 for standpipe and hose
systems.

SCHEDULE 17 - Equipment and components shall be listed or labeled in accordance with the requirements of a nationally
recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) recognized under 29 CFR part 1910.7.
SCHEDULE 18 - Welding materials and procedures shall conform to and comply with ASME BPVC Sec IX.
SCHEDULE 19 - Valves shall bear a label or marking of a NRTL with manufacturers name and pressure rating marked on
valve body.
SCHEDULE 20 - Provide pumps labeled with manufacturer's name, model number, and rating/capacity.

SCHEDULE 21 - DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING


SCHEDULE 22 - Deliver and store valves and pumps in shipping containers, with labeling in place.
SCHEDULE 23 - Provide temporary protective coating on cast iron and steel valves.
SCHEDULE 24 - Provide temporary end caps and closures. Maintain in place until installation.
SCHEDULE 25 - Deliver materials and store on site in original containers with seals unbroken and labels intact until time
of use, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
SCHEDULE 26 - All materials and equipment shall be carefully handled at times. Only suitable and proper equipment
and appliance shall be used for the safe loading, hauling, unloading, handling, and installation of material.

SCHEDULE 27 - MAINTENANCE
SCHEDULE 28 - Provide extra sprinkler heads under provisions of NFPA 13.
SCHEDULE 29 - Provide suitable wrenches for each head type.
SCHEDULE 30 - Provide metal storage cabinet in location designated.
SCHEDULE 31 - Provide three sets of gaskets & screens for each pump type and model supplied for the University's use.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

SCHEDULE 0 - GENERAL
SCHEDULE 1 - All materials and equipment furnished by the Subcontractor shall be new, first grade standard, current
products of a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of such materials and equipment. Where two or more
pieces of equipment performing the same function are required, they shall be of the same manufacturer and exact
duplicates.

SCHEDULE 2 - PIPE AND TUBE


SCHEDULE 3 - Steel Pipe: In accordance with ASTM-A-53 and ASTM-A-135 black steel Schedule 40 pipe. Pipes shall
be joined by screwed joints in accordance with specification ANSI B 1.20.1 - 1983 (ANSI/ASME B 2.1), by welded joints in
accordance with specification ANSI/ASME B 31.1, Chap. 5, or by UL - listed mechanical grooved couplings. Grooves
may be rolled or cut and they shall be dimensionally compatible with the couplings.
SCHEDULE 4 - Copper Tube: ASTM B88 Type L copper.
SCHEDULE 5 - Iron Pipe: AWWA-C-151, centrifugally cast ductile iron pipe.

SCHEDULE 7 - Aboveground, Inside-Building Piping: Black Steel, schedule 40, pipe or Type L copper tube as permitted
by NFPA 13.

SCHEDULE 8 - PIPE FITTINGS


SCHEDULE 9 - Steel Fittings: Welded fittings shall be wrought steel in accordance with ASME-B-16.9, ASME-B-16.25,
ASTM-A-234. Wrought carbon steel or alloy steel flanges and fittings shall be in accordance with ASME-B-16.5, and
ASME-B-16.11.
SCHEDULE 10 - Malleable Iron Fittings (Screwed type): In accordance with ASME-B-16.3 and ASTM-A-47.
SCHEDULE 11 - Copper Fittings: Cast bronze brazed joint in accordance with ASME-B-16.18. Wrought copper brazed
joint in accordance with ASME B-16.22.
SCHEDULE 12 - Ductile Iron Fittings: In accordance with AWWA-C-110.
SCHEDULE 13 - Grooved couplings and mechanical fittings shall be UL listed or FM approved for fire protection service.
Plain-end type pipe fittings and couplings shall not be used unless specifically identified on the Drawings.

SCHEDULE 14 - JOINT MATERIALS


SCHEDULE 15 - Solder: ASTM-B-32, 95/5 alloy.
SCHEDULE 16 - Brazing: AWS-A-5.8.
SCHEDULE 17 - Threaded Joint Compound: Teflon tape or approved joint compound.

SCHEDULE 18 - UNIONS, FLANGES, AND COUPLINGS


SCHEDULE 19 - Unions: 150 psi (1034 kPa) malleable iron for threaded ferrous piping.
SCHEDULE 20 - Flanges: 150 psi (1034 kPa) forged steel slip-on flanges for ferrous piping.
SCHEDULE 21 - Mechanical Grooved Couplings: Malleable iron housing clamps to engage and lock, designed to permit
some angular deflection, contraction, and expansion; C-shaped composition sealing gasket, steel bolts, nuts, and

SCHEDULE 25 - Provide handwheels for gate, globe or angle, and drain valves.

provide level lock handle with toothed plate.
SCHEDULE 27 - For valves located more than 7 feet (2 m) from floor in equipment room areas, provide endless-chainoperated sheaves. Extend chains to 5 feet (1.5 m) above floor and secure clear of walkways.

SCHEDULE 1 - Impairments of existing fire protection systems shall be minimized, coordinated with the University
Representative, and performed in accordance with NFPA 25. Existing fire protection systems shall be restored to service
at the end of each working day.
SCHEDULE 2 - If the work performed occurs within an existing building. equipment and material to be furnished and
installed on the Project shall be coordinated with existing space constraints. equipment and material shall be fabricated
such that complete systems may be broken down into sections suitable for lifting in the existing elevator and fit through
existing passageways without modification to the building unless otherwise noted, or other arrangements are made with
the Owner's Representative to provide access.
SCHEDULE 3 - Coordinate work schedule, material deliveries etc. with both the University Representative and other
contractors.
SCHEDULE 4 - Place pipe runs to minimize obstruction to other work.

SCHEDULE 5 - PREPARATION
SCHEDULE 6 - Ream pipe and tube ends to full inside diameter.
SCHEDULE 7 - Remove burrs and bevel plain-end ferrous pipe.

SCHEDULE 44 - The Subcontractor shall be responsible for openings and penetrations required for sprinkler piping.
SCHEDULE 45 - Cutting structural members for passing sprinkler piping or pipe hanger fastenings will not be permitted
except with approval of the University Representative.
SCHEDULE 46 - Suitable means shall be provided at each hole or penetration to maintain the designed fire resistance
rating of the wall, ceiling or floor assembly.
SCHEDULE 47 - Install split wall plates or escutcheons where exposed piping passes through a finished floor, wall or
ceiling. They shall fit snugly around piping. The finish of escutcheons or wall plates shall match the color of adjacent
walls, ceilings or floors.

SCHEDULE 48 - PAINTING
SCHEDULE 49 - Exposed piping, conduit, valves etc. will be painted by others. Clean exposed surfaces of oil, dirt, etc. to
the University Representatives satisfaction.
SCHEDULE 50 - Remove protective bags and wrappings after painting is completed. sprinkler heads, which have paint
on them, shall be replaced. Cleaning of painted sprinkler heads is not permitted.

SCHEDULE 51 - FIELD QUALITY CONTROL


SCHEDULE 52 - Clean and flush entire piping system of foreign matter.
SCHEDULE 53 - System Testing: Upon completion of installation and while piping is still exposed, hydrostatically test the
systems at 200 psig (1380 kPa) for a period of 2 hours, or, test at 50 psig (35 kPa) above static pressure if static pressure
is above 150 psig (1035 kPa).

Portions of the system may be tested as they are completed. Forty-eight hour notice shall be given to the
University Representative and the authority having jurisdiction prior to test. University Representative shall be
witnessed the tests.
