Female bosses set to lead the way in job

creation during coming year, says survey
ALMOST 140,000 new jobs could
be created this year by businesses led by women, a study
has estimated.
A survey of 1,000 businesswomen found that one in seven
said hiring new staff was a top
priority for 2015.
With almost a million womenled small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK, this
could mean that almost 140,000
jobs will be created, said the
Business is GREAT campaign,
which aims to boost small firms.
Minister for women and equalities and minister for business
Jo Swinson said: Supporting
women entrepreneurs is vital if
we are to build both a stronger
economy and a fairer society.
There are more women-led
businesses in the UK than ever
before, and we know if women
were setting up and running
new businesses at the same rate
as men, our economy could benefit from one million more entrepreneurs. Its my goal for 2015
to kickstart a culture change in
workplaces where fathers feel
more confident in taking time
off for childcare.
The new rules will give real
choice to parents, allowing them
to juggle the demands of work
with the arrival of a new baby.

However, growth in Britains

manufacturing sector slowed to
a three-month low in December
marking a dismal end to 2014,
figures showed.
The pound fell a cent against
the dollar as the closely-watched
CIPS/Markit purchasing managers index survey posted a worse
than expected reading of 52.5
- where the 50 figure separates
growth from contraction.
It was a fall from Novembers
reading of 53.3 and gave an average performance for the fourth
quarter as a whole of 53, the
weakest for a year-and-a-half.
Meanwhile separate figures
showed eurozone manufacturing also ended 2014 on a subdued
note, with rates of growth
remaining close to stagnation.
In the UK, the dismal performance of the manufacturing
sector will come as a disappointment amid hopes of rebalancing
the economy towards industry
and away from its reliance on
consumer spending.
Rob Dobson, senior economist
at Markit, said: The latest survey provides further evidence
of the ongoing slowdown in the
UK manufacturing sector, with
output and new order growth
easing to their second-weakest
rates during the past year-and-
