January 5, 2012 Vidals Residence Attorney 1.) What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of democratic form of government? The advantages of democracy are that most important attribute of democracy is that everyone is treated equally before the law, irrespective of caste, creed or sex. Everyone is entitled to freedom of speech, worship, occupation and to move throughout the country. The dignity of man is recognized and respected, people are given ample opportunities to become strong and self reliant. The disadvantages of democracy are that the people in power might impose certain rules on the majority which are not favored by them and hence overshadow there voice. Complete manipulation of the general population by the elected minority. Not all citizens are aware of the political scenario present in their country and might just vote as a result of bribery. As the elected representatives have a fixed term or in other words a few years time to stay in power they focus on maintaining their position for next elections and furthermore on personal gains 2.) What do you think are some of the defects of democracy in the Philippines? There are a lot of defects I can mention about the Philippine democracy but if you look systematically to the context of our nation, it always comes back to the people were it all began. Some just engage themselves into politics considering it will be a quality business to start a life. Another is that the democracy in Philippines is not a clear image visible to the people and to the nation itself. What I mean is that there is less opportunity to the common people considering that they have less to offer in this country unlike to the upper class group of people which is a bad. A democracy for the wealthy, as they say. 3.) What should be done to improve democracy in the Philippines? If we are to improve our democracy her in the Philippines, well it should start from us. As individual as we are, we have a responsibility to this democratic type of government. Although there are really things that hinder improvement, Filipinos are much more eager to do because we want challenge and we hunger for change. We may be shaded by the actions done by politicians that contrast the entire democratic government, but we should also bear in mind that there is no perfect or worst type of government instituted if we have unity and nationalism in this nation.

January 5, 2012 Judyville Subdivision Student 1.) What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of democratic form of government? The advantage of democratic government is that it is a fast way process for a developing country like the Philippines because of the fact that the government is divided into 3 co-equal branch of power that enables our country to respond quickly through situations. Also through democratic government, people are open for suggestions and have rights to stand for. The disadvantage of democratic government is that it is quick for temptations and that powerful enough for corruption. Although democracy is not base on the leaders itself only but also, democracy is merely the people in the country so what I mean is that democratic form of government is disadvantageous in the sense that the decision is made by a lot of people who has different thoughts. 2.) What do you think are some of the defects of democracy in the Philippines? To generalize all, I can only think of one defect to the democracy of this country and that is self-interest. Self-interest in the sense people in power take advantage to the democratic type of government we have because of aim for superiority. To think much deeper, there is no really bad type of government but rather its in the people in authority surrounding the round table has the defects. 3.) What should be done to improve democracy in the Philippines? There is no need to change the type of government we have right now. The thing that should be done for an improvement in our democratic government is revive the spirit of nationalism, the spirit of oneness and the spirit of helpfulness. This may sound very common but for me, this will solve all controversies of our democratic government.
