UNIT PURPOSE: This unit focuses on the animals around us and demonstrates how useful
they are to man.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THEME / TOPIC: Pupils are introduced to all types of animals,
both domesticated and wild animals.
SECOND COMPONENT: PUPILS PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Pupils previous knowledge:
Lesson 1: Pupils have seen in their real live, pictures or videos of animals in a group.
Lesson 2: Pupils have been to a zoo or watch circus before.
Lesson 3: Pupils have seen weird animal characters before in cartoons / movies.
Lesson 4: Pupils have their own pets at home and have seen pests in their house.

Lesson 3: Pupils can imagine and describe strange animal characters.
Lesson 4: Pupils can describe about having pets or getting rid of pests.

Misconception(s) that may occur and the real ones:


Lesson 1: Different animals in a group have different collective nouns whereas certain
animals may have the same collective nouns to describe them.
Lesson 2: Animals shows are the same at a circus and a zoo. On the contrary a circus or a
zoo might have their own animals shows according to different theme and format.
Lesson 3: There are strange animals in this world but actually all of them are only fantasies
and created only for cartoons / movies.
Lesson 4: Having pets is good while pests only bring bad things to us. However pets can
give us problems some time.
