Course Outcomes
Ability to:
understand the basic concepts of thermodynamics
such as temperature, pressure, system, properties,
process, state, cycles and equilibrium.
conduct experiments regarding the measurement
and calibration of temperatures and pressures in
groups.
identify the properties of substances on property
diagrams and obtain the data from property tables.
understand the energy transfer through mass, heat
and work for closed and control volume systems.

Course Outcomes
Ability to:
apply the first Law of Thermodynamics on closed
and control volume systems.
apply Second Law of Thermodynamics and entropy
concepts in analyzing the thermal efficiencies of heat
engines such as Carnot and Rankine cycles and the
coefficients of performance for refrigerators.
understand basics of heat transfer through steady
state conduction, natural and forced convection and
radiations.

Quiz / Assignment
2-4 quiz will be given throughout the lectures
weeks.
No advance notification regarding the time and
date when quizzes will be given always be
prepared for these quizzes!!!
Questions might be in objective or subjective
forms!
Open book but no discussions allowed.
Duration: 20-30 minutes per quiz.
Quizzes contribute 5% towards the total marks
of this course.

Laboratory Sessions
Each student is compulsory to
thermodynamic lab experiments :

attend

and

perform

THREE

(3)

i) Pengukuran dan Penentukuran Tekanan (Makmal JKKP) Guided Lab

ii) Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Contact Resistance Open ended Lab

All the KP2034 lab sessions will be conducted at Makmal Tahun I, Paras 2,
Jabatan Kejuruteraan Kimia dan Proses and Makmal JKMB.
Manuals can be obtained through iFolio under KKKP2034 course.
Timetable and groups for the lab sessions are set by Research Officer
Assistant, JKMB inform if any clash!!!
Not allowed to change or postpone any lab session timetables unless in the case
of emergency.
Groups consists of 4 or 5 students per group for Temperature and Pressure
Experiment.

Students are COMPULSORY to wear proper attire and proper shoes (OR
ELSE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE LAB) every time
attending the lab session for safety reasons.
Quiz consists of 10 short questions regarding the theory in the lab manual
will be given at the beginning of the lab session Pls be prepared!!!
Each students will be given a short report to be filled and submitted to the
demos at the end of the lab sessions.
