Token ring ----- If a Token Ring protocol is used in a star or ring topology, the

signal travels in only one direction, carried by a so-called token from node to
node. Unshield twisted pair cable .16mbps. CSMA/CD access method

10 base 2 ------- same like bus network topology In the bus network topology,
every workstation is connected to a main cable called the bus. Therefore, in
effect, each workstation is directly connected to every other workstation in the
network.10 mbps uses a single communication backbone for all
devices. Use coxial cable.csma/cd

10 base T -------same like star network topology. In the star network topology,
there is a central computer or server to which all the workstations are directly
connected. Every workstation is indirectly connected to every other through the
central computer..twisted pair cable.10mbps csma /cd-use

10 base 5 -------same like bus network topology In the bus network topology,
every workstation is connected to a main cable called the bus. Therefore, in
effect, each workstation is directly connected to every other workstation in the
network,coxial cable.csma /cd 10mbps

100 base t ----same like bus network topology In the bus network topology,
every workstation is connected to a main cable called the bus. Therefore, in
effect, each workstation is directly connected to every other workstation in the
network.twisted pair wire and fiber optic. CSMA/CD LAN access
method.100mbps.

100 base SX ----- same like star network topology. In the star network topology,
there is a central computer or server to which all the workstations are directly
connected. Every workstation is indirectly connected to every other through the
central computer.. ,optical fiber, 100mbps csma /cd

LAN NETWORKING EQUIPMENT

ROUTERS-----Routers are small physical devices that join multiple
networks together (DEFINATION). a router is used to grab the signal
from the modem, and shoot(usage)
SWITCHES------ A network switch is a small hardware device that
joins multiple computers together within one local area network
(LAN)(definition) is a computer networking device that is used to connect
devices together on a computer network. (usage)
LAN CARD---- . LAN card is a small piece of hardware, which is connected
inside a PC to link a computer network (definition)The purpose of a LAN
Card is to create a physical connection to the network LAN Card is to
provide a data link(usage)
HUBS----- A hub is a small rectangular box, often made of plastic,
that receives its power from an ordinary wall outlet(definition).
A hub joins multiple computers (or other network devices)
together to form a single network segment. (usage)

WAN NETWORKING EQUIPMENT

MODEMS---- A modulator-demodulator is an electronic device which
modulates the digital signal output from a computer into an analog signal
that can be transmitted along a telephone line and demodulates the analog
signal on a telephone line into a digital signal that can be recognized by a
computer.(definition) It allows one computer to connect another
computer and transfer data over telephone lines.(usage)

CSU/DSU----- Short for Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit. The CSU is
a device that connects a terminal to a digital line(definition). to connect a
router to a digital circuit like a T1 or T3 line. The CSU/DSU also provides
signal timing for communication between these devices.(usage)

ACCESS SERVER----- A device that functions as an access control point for

users in remote locations connecting to a company's internal network or to
an ISP (definition)
WAN SWITCH ----- (DESCRIPTION) - is a multiport internetworking device used by
carriers able to switch WAN traffic types such as Frame Relay, ATM or X.25.
(USAGE)- this devices typically switch traffic such as ATM, and operate at the Data
Link layer of the OSI reference model.
ROUTER ---- (USAGE) A Router Provides internetworking between the LANs, and
WAN access interface ports that are used to connect to the service provider network
likes serial interface.
(Description)- are small physical devices that join multiple networks together.
Technically, a router is a Layer 3 gateway device, meaning that it connects two or
more networks and that the router operates at the network layer of the OSI model.
