President's Message
Welcome to 2015, I hope everyone enjoyed the
holidays, and that you are all getting back into
the swing of regular life. As a follow-up to our
December newsletter, we are excited to
announce the Virginia Section release of the
2015 ASCE Virginia Infrastructure Report Card
on January 20th. The release of the Report
Card is in conjunction with the Annual
Legislative Meet and Greet hosted by the
Virginia Section and the Richmond Branch. If you are interested in a
copy, the report cards will be available for distribution at the Meet and
Greet event.
ASCE is hosting a legislative training session before the Meet and Greet
event at The Jefferson Hotel. We will go over multiple topics including
ASCE's involvement in government, the basics of the Virginia General
Assembly, proposed legislation, and the 2015 Virginia Infrastructure
Report Card.
These events are a great opportunity to represent our profession by
discussing the prevailing issues in our industry with local and state
government representatives. Each year we get additional representation
from the politicians who will be making the infrastructure decisions that
affect the public throughout Virginia. The Virginia Section and Branch
would love to have professional experience and support in building
relationships with the legislators. We hope to see you there!
If you have any questions about the day's events please contact Loai ElGazairly at elgazairly@wrallp.com. I would also encourage you to sign up
in advance (January 16th deadline) so we can make sure that there is
enough food and beverage for all attending.
If you cannot attend the event, and would still like to be involved, we
anticipate posting the legislative training materials on
ASCERichmond.org for reference to contact your representative. You can
track the 2015 Session Bills at http://virginiageneralassembly.gov/ and
find out who your representative is at
http://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/. Additionally, our national
government relations have many advocacy programs that identify where
you as an individual can participate in our national and local causes. If
you would like to learn more, check out
